This is the Original upload. At last I got the montage of the DD's famous Dosai Montage. I name it as Dosai because it follows same way how a Dosai prepared in Tamilnadu. I regret the poor Audio and Video quality as the clip was shot using Nokia 6300 with no ambient supporting light. This Montage is in use from 1974 and the background music is from a shanai. This is the original upload of this signature in this youtube. Further in my search in the net, I got this data on the tune: In 1973, the signature tune of Doordarshan was first brought to life by Ustad Ali Ahmad Hussain Khan during his shehnai recital in an hour and a half long inauguration ceremony of Doordarshan Television Channel held at Vigyan Bhava in New Delhi. Ustad Ali Ahmad Hussain Khan was the one who first breathed life into that sad sounding tune. As more and more cities started receiving the signals of Doordarshan, the number of its viewers kept increasing. It became a truly powerful medium. But, a medium of what - this was yet to be decided. Indira Gandhi, the Indian Prime Minister at the time, understood the power of this new medium. A common sentiment of the public during the turbulent 70s was: Nehru was a visionary!?, Shastri a revisionary!?, and Indira Gandhi a televisionary!?. Indira Gandhi knew how to wield and harvest the power of television. Indira Gandhi wanted the signature tune of Doordarshan to be based on the song - Iqbal's saarey jahan se acha. It was a great show as far as i remember, I was a school goin' kid then, grew up watching these great sitcoms. I could remember thru these wonderful title tracks and little abt the stories. I cherish these shows because they were simple n yet so great. The way the Characters were potrayed in the show was so real. This dance form traces its origins to the nomadic bards of ancient northern India, known as Kathaks, or storytellers. These bards, performing in village squares and temple courtyards, mostly specialized in recounting mythological and moral tales from the scriptures, and embellished their recitals with hand gestures and facial expressions. It was quintessential theatre, using instrumental and vocal music along with stylized gestures, to enliven the stories. Doordarshan's Signature Tune and Montage (1974) ~ [HD]
It all started 52 years ago, on 15 September 1959. With a humble beginning and a little support from All India Radio. Doordarshan (DD) started its transmission and gave birth to Indian Television. When we think about Doordarshan the first thing that comes in our mind is the sad signature tune which would play before the transmission every Morning, Afternoon & Evening Sessions. Similer to the AIR Signature tune , the Doordarshan's Signature Tune is embedded in our minds till it got a setback due to the upsurge of Cable television in the early 90's. This Nostalgic piece of music was composed by Ustad Ali Ahmed Hussain Khan with Pandit Ravi Shankar in 1974. In 1976 the DD Montage was designed at National Institute of Design (NID). In the next two decades from the early 80's to mid 90's, Doordarshan produced some of the finest serials on Indian Television. The people born in that generation when there was no other channel than DD will & definitely do miss it. This slow mournful Signature Tune has become a cherished memory for generations of Indians all across the world.
