Drug traffickers in Colombia are finding ever more inventive ways of transporting narcotics out of the country. Colombia is the world's main producer and distributor of cocaine. As police continue their efforts to crack down on the drug cartels - they're finding the battle is not only on land, in the sky or on the sea - but underwater. Teresa Bo reports.

The CIA and the Drug Trade (Eyeopener Preview)

CONTINUE WATCHING: ur1.ca TRANSCRIPT AND SOURCES: www.corbettreport.com Just as the British Empire was in part financed by their control of the opium trade through the British East India Company, so too has the CIA been found time after time to be at the heart of the modern international drug trade. From its very inception, the CIA has been embroiled in the murky underworld of drug trafficking. There are billions of dollars per year to be made in keeping the drug trade going, and it has long been established that Wall Street and the major American banks rely on drug money as a ready source of liquid capital. With those kinds of funds at stake, it is unsurprising to see a media-government-banking nexus develop around the status quo of a never-ending war on drugs -- aided, abetted and facilitated by the modern-day British East India Company, the CIA. This is our EyeOpener Report by James Corbett presenting the history, documented facts, and cases on the CIA's involvement and operations in the underworld of drug trafficking, from the Corsican Mafia in the 1940s through the 1980s Contras to the recent Zambada Niebla Case today.

Violence and Drug Trafficking in Mexico

More at www.linktv.org (Latin Pulse: May 21, 2009) Day after day, Mexico is home to more and more victims of drug trafficking and organized crime. In 2008 alone, 6290 murders were attributed to fighting between the factions of organized crime. These factions are fighting for control over the drug routes to the United States, the world's biggest consumer of drugs. In addition, other illicit, million-dollars businesses - like human trafficking and kidnapping - are also expanding, even beyond Mexico's borders. Drug Trafficking Gang Busted in Hebei Province, China

For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ facebook.com Alleged drug dealers were exposed and arrested in northern China over the weekend. The gang had well-organized and smooth operations, trading large amounts of methamphetamine. In China's northern Hebei Province, local authorities arrested alleged drug dealers after four months of investigation. The drug trafficking gang made and sold more than nine pounds (or 4450 grams) of methamphetamine. Back in April, someone had tipped off authorities that over 100 dealers and addicts were involved in drug trade. The gang's operations were apparently well planned. [Yan Limin, Shijiazhuang Public Security Bureau Member]: "They never had a regular trading time, place and delivery men. The members had a fixed division of labor and never jumped their role. There was no contact between delivery men, for example, and they didn't know one another." Their top leader, surnamed Li, smuggled drugs between Shijiazhuang and Chengdu cities. His partner, Chen, would place the methamphetamine in home appliances that Li would then purchase and have shipped back to Shijiazhuang. But Li's shopping pattern was unusual and it prompted a police investigation that found drugs hidden in all of the appliances. Police arrested both men on August 4th.

Important reminder. Released on April 13, 1989, the Kerry Committee report concluded that members of the US State Department "who provided support for the Contras were involved in drug trafficking...and elements of the Contras themselves knowingly received financial and material assistance from drug traffickers." In 1996 Gary Webb wrote a series of articles published in the San Jose Mercury News, which investigated Nicaraguans linked to the CIA-backed Contras who had allegedly smuggled cocaine into the US which was then distributed as crack cocaine into Los Angeles and funneled profits to the Contras. According to Webb, the CIA was aware of the cocaine transactions and the large shipments of drugs into the US by the Contra personnel and directly aided drug dealers to raise money for the Contras. In 1996 CIA Director John M. Deutch went to Los Angeles to refute the allegations raised by the Gary Webb articles, and was famously confronted by former LAPD officer Michael Ruppert, who testified that he witnessed it occurring. **** Gary Webb, the Pulitzer prize-winning reporter who broke the story of the CIA's involvement in the importation of cocaine into the US, died December 10, 2004, reportedly from self-inflicted gunshots to the head. Gary Webb on CIA Drug Trafficking - Dark Alliance Interview (Part 6)

August 14, 1998 www.amazon.com Watch the full interview: thefilmarchived.blogspot.com Operation Tailwind was a covert incursion into southeastern Laos by a company-sized element of US Army Special Forces and Montagnard commando (Hatchet Force) of the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam Studies and Observations Group (MACV-SOG or SOG), conducted between 11 September and 13 September 1970 during the Vietnam War (also known as the Second Indochina War). The purpose of the operation was to create a diversion for a Royal Lao Army offensive and to exert pressure on the occupation forces of the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN). Nearly 30 years later, Peter Arnett narrated a CNN/Time Magazine report produced by April Oliver, Jack Smith, Pam Hill, and others. The "Valley of Death" report claimed sarin nerve gas had been used, and other war crimes had been committed by US forces during Tailwind, kicking off a controversy that ended in retraction of the claim by both news organizations and purging all staff members responsible for it. During the Clinton presidential administration, there were accusations (most notably in the controversial film Clinton Chronicles) that Mr. Clinton, during his time as governor of Arkansas, and other high-ranking state officials were involved in some way with alleged illegal cocaine importation, money laundering, and drug-use centered upon the airport in Mena. CIA Drug Ops Conspiracy-Unaired Documentary-Full Length

This is a documentary series that was never aired where an investigative journalist uncovers truth to the rumors about Iran-Contra during the Reagan years, CIA drug trafficking, CIA drug operations in Mena, Arkansas during the Clinton governorship and presidency. It also implies that former president George HW Bush, who was vice president during the Reagan years, and was also former head of the CIA was also involved. This documentary to my knowledge was recorded from a hacked satellite tuned to an "edit" channel which was feeding coast to coast "preview programming" to network executives in NYC. Apparently the decision was made against running this program due to its content and the "heat" that it would generate. The CIA poses as FBI more often than not, so perhaps the "FBI" stated this would interfere with their investigation...... Drug-cartel war in Mexico (June 21, 2009)

Anderson Cooper reports on the Drug-cartel war in Mexico. The Mexican Drug War is an ongoing armed conflict taking place among rival drug cartels, who fight each other for regional control, and Mexican government forces who seek to combat drug trafficking. Although Mexican drug cartels, or drug trafficking organizations, have existed for a few decades, they have become more powerful since the demise of Colombia's Cali and Medellín cartels in the 1990s. Mexican drug cartels now dominate the wholesale illicit drug market in the United States. Arrests of key cartel leaders, particularly in the Tijuana and Gulf cartels, have led to increasing drug violence as cartels fight for control of the trafficking routes into the United States. The US Department of Justice estimates that the wholesale of illicit drug sale earnings range from $13.6 billion to $48.4 billion annually. Mexican drug traffickers increasingly smuggle money back into Mexico in cars and trucks, likely due to the effectiveness of US efforts at monitoring electronic money transfers.

In the book The Politics of Heroin in Southeast Asia, Alfred W. McCoy discusses the use of opium to fund covert operations done by the CIA in Vietnam and provides prolific testimony from interviews with many of the principals involved. Manuel Noriega: CIA Involvement and Drug Trafficking

October 20, 1989 www.amazon.com Watch the full program: thefilmarchived.blogspot.com Manuel Antonio Noriega (born February 11 1934) is a former general and the military dictator of Panama from 1983 to 1989. He was never, contrary to popular opinion, officially the president of Panama, but held the post of "chief executive officer" for a brief period in 1989. The 1989 invasion of Panama by the United States removed him from power; he was captured, detained as a prisoner of war, and flown to the US Noriega was tried on eight counts of drug trafficking, racketeering, and money laundering in April 1992. Noriega's US prison sentence ended in September 2007; pending the outcome of extradition requests by both Panama and France, he remains in prison as of 2009. Noriega worked with the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) from the late 1950s to the 1980s, and was on the CIA payroll for much of this time, although the relationship had not become contractual until 1967. Nonetheless, he retained US support until February 4, 1989, when the Drug Enforcement Administration indicted him on federal drug charges. On February 25, President Eric Arturo Delvalle issued a decree declaring that Noriega was relieved of his duties. Noriega ignored the decree, but instead instructed the National Assembly, dominated by the PRD, to remove Delvalle from office; Delvalle fled the country. Drug Smuggler Testimony on Colombian Trafficking - Kerry Committee II Day 1-26 (1988)

February 8, 1988 www.amazon.com Watch the full program: thefilmarchived.blogspot.com Richard Davenport-Hines, in his book The Pursuit of Oblivion (WW Norton & Company, 2001), criticized the efficacy of the War on Drugs by pointing out that "10--15% of illicit heroin and 30% of illicit cocaine is intercepted. Drug traffickers have gross profit margins of up to 300%. At least 75% of illicit drug shipments would have to be intercepted before the traffickers' profits were hurt." Alberto Fujimori, president of Peru from 1990--2000, described US foreign drug policy as "failed" on grounds that "for 10 years, there has been a considerable sum invested by the Peruvian government and another sum on the part of the American government, and this has not led to a reduction in the supply of coca leaf offered for sale. Rather, in the 10 years from 1980 to 1990, it grew 10-fold." At least 500 economists, including Nobel Laureates Milton Friedman, George Akerlof and Vernon L. Smith, have noted that reducing the supply of marijuana without reducing the demand causes the price, and hence the profits of marijuana sellers, to go up, according to the laws of supply and demand. The increased profits encourage the producers to produce more drugs despite the risks, providing a theoretical explanation for why attacks on drug supply have failed to have any lasting effect. Illegal alien on food stamps charged with heroin distribution in Florida On June 14, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd announced that a 14-month investigation had culminated in the arrest of 33 suspected drug traffickers. The alleged head of the operation is Pablo Borgen, an illegal alien from the Dominican Republic. According to police, Borgen was getting at least a pound of heroin every month from New York. Most of those taken into custody have long criminal records. Most interestingly, several of those arrested, including the group's ringleader were receiving food stamps and other government assistance. Borgen was reportedly receiving $900 a month from the government, on top of the estimated $70000 a month he was raking in from illegal drug sales. Such drugs are increasingly becoming very easily available in many of the city's estates. In our i-story, this week, Michael Njenga sought to trace some of these drug dens in Eastleigh.

www.ntv.co.ke What is the US government's interest in the fight against drug trafficking in Kenya? Why is it so vocal today about it? Why is it so willing to help Kenya rid itself of the drugs scourge? Well, today it may seem like the US governments actions against Kenyans alleged to be drug kingpins is recent, but its not. In fact, the US's dissatisfaction with the fight against drug crime began some time back, ironically, around the same time that Kenyan authorities netted what was at the time, the biggest drug haul in Africa. 1.1 tonnes of cocaine, with a street value then, of 6.5 billion shillings. And looking back, it seems that this bust set the tone for the fight against the drug trade in Kenya, but not in the way you'd expect. John-Allan Namu takes a look back.
