Paint is a quick way to get the color you want on your gun and lots of troops just shoot their gun with some Krylon and call it good. But it's not durable and most paints wear quickly. Enter DuraCoat by Lauer Weaponry in Wisconsin. They make a huge variety of durable epoxy finishes for guns that promise to wear extremely well. Moreover YOU, yes YOU, can even apply it. This is a quick video showing my application of "Stone" color DuraCoat to a Remington 700P .300WM rifle after appropriate preparation. The DuraCoat "Level II Starter Kit" includes an airbrush, air hose and couplings, 15 oz propellant can (which didn't work well for me... had to use hobby air compressor for good results), mixing bottle, color bottle, mask, gloves, measuring spoons, 2 oz reducer, 1 oz TruLube (not used), and good instructions. Surface preparation is the most time consuming task; you'll need to rough up smooth surfaces for preparation (Lauer also sells metal prep liquids which I feel are unnecessary). Make sure you do this in a ventilated area as shown. Results are impressive and I suspect I will be using their camo stencil kits in the future. Downsides are more expense (but much cheaper than other finishes like Robar's NP3), more work than painting and it might be hard to relate the catalog color to your desired shade (mine was lighter than depicted)./////////////Nutnfancy Initial Likeability Scale: 9 out of 10

I am a fan of DuraCoating as shown in some previous project videos to include a Remington 700P, Cold Steel Long Hunter, Ontario RAT 1 folder, and Camillus Marine Combat knives. Reference the annotated videos. These projects have worn well and I stated then that more custom colorations for TNP equipment were on the way. And here they are: here we prep and spray two Ruger 10/22s and some knives (BM 710 and Nimravus) get the DC treatment in this vid. Vid shows the detailed takedown, sanding prep and spray work in the shop with the guys. As mentioned before, quality prep and taping is needed to achieve a first class finished product. Duracoat: A two part epoxy all purpose coating. Data point: My own personal experience with the product. A quick DuraCoat project demonstrating easy application of this user friendly and incredibly durable two-part finish. This project shows application of DuraCoat to a painter's pole antenna mount for portable emergency / portable HAM radio operations. Prepping the project is the most important step of any finishing project. This antenna mount is built from CPVC plastic and stainless steel. Prior to applying the DuraCoat finish, this project was lightly sanded with 400 grit wet-dry sandpaper and cleaned with acetone. The two-part DuraCoat finish is applied in layers allowing the solvents to flash off before recoating that area. Best application is with an airbrush. However, very acceptable results can also be achieved with careful use of an inexpensive Preval Srayer. DuraCoat is dry to touch in 20 minutes, dry for handling in 60 minutes, dry for reassembly and regular service use in 24 hours and reaches full cure in 30 days. Feel free to send questions, I ran into several problems with airbrushes but finally found one that works great - Iwatta Eclipse series" i chose the syphon fed and its great. Run reducer/paint thinner throught the brush before u start and randomly if the brush sits for a few minutes. Just have another syphon jar with thinner in it near by. u don't want this stuff hardening inside ur expensive air brushes.

Refinishing the Cold Steel Long Hunter fixed blade knife in "Coyote Brown" color of DuraCoat. DuraCoat is an epoxy based, hard finish from Lauer Weaponry in Wisconsin (shown in other TNP vids as well). The Long Hunter is mostly a great blade for the money (see my full review) however its bright finish is not suitable for deployed soldiers. As such it became another TNP project knife. Sheath is covered in MARPAT Desert color of CamoForm camouflage wrap (other brands available). Also knife handle was drilled and a desert color 550 lanyard cord was fitted to aid extraction from the friction sheath. The resulting blade is low vis, still deadly, and will blend in nicely with load bearing equipment.

This was something Ive wanted to do for a long time, Duracoat the families Colt Government 380. Its old but continuing to go up in value, there was some surface rust in a couple spots and had a fair amount of wear so this will in crease its life and value. Seeing the finished product I'm going to spray the slide in Flat Black which will prevent any additional rust issues and bring the look together. If you're new to Duracoating I recommend you wait at least overnight before attempting to reassemble you project, Ive got experience with coating and don't display what will give you the best results for your product. If you've got any questions or would maybe like me to do a project for you, leave a comment below. I like to help people out who dont want to make a full investment in Duracoating and could use some extra money and experience.

Degrease the parts using brake/carb cleaner. 3. Avoid any contact with you skin, because of the oils on it. 2. We sand blast to make for a more adherent surface. (you can also use something like scotch brite to scuff) 3. Paint in multiply light coats. (allow to flash dry in between coats) 4. Allow time to dry/cure. Duracoating shouldn't be something that intimidates you. It can be done with relative ease. It just takes to simply steps and careful preparation and handling. Thanks for watching! first off, i never have tried DuraCoat, and this is not a comparison review. here's my review of the rust-oleum deep forest spray paint, or as i call it "the poor man's duracoat" i didn't prime or seal any of the knives, i just wanted to test try it on some cheaper knives that don't get much use. i really like the way the paint turned out, i plan on getting more colors and painting some old dirty tools that i have in back like a machete and shovel. here's some info from the rust-oleum website. OVERVIEW: Rust-Oleum Specialty Camouflage Spray provides a non-reflective, ultra-flat finish for maximum hiding. Applies to metal, wood, plaster or masonry. Offers long-lasting protection when applied on top of primer. i really like this stuff and i plan on purchasing the khaki color if i can find it at the local home depot.. this deep forest can was all they had left, i purchased the last one.

This is my Remington 870 Express Magnum that I duracoated, this was my first attempt at duracoating and it couldnt have gone better Tactical Extreme Gray is my color choice In the instructions that came along with the duracoat product it says 24 hours after you have finished your duracoat spay job you can reassemble and fire your weapon, well I found 24 hours is too early and I recommend you let your firearm sit 4 days after you have finished spraying it with duracoat before you try to reassemble it
