The music of Toka Incognita is not just jazz like, for example, "Embraceable you". Neither is it Albanian polyphonic music. It is the marriage of the two. The traditional path is not the goal of Eda Zari's music, be it jazz or Albanian polyphony. The generous patterns of the sweet jazz are invited to take a walk in the fields smelling thyme and rosemary in the Western and South Albania. At the same time, the typologies of the Albanian polyphony are invited to swing with the classic standards of the worldly jazz. These are not variants of the traditional, but rather the traditional brought in other times and spaces, in a new spirit built upon the old echoes. It is the modern standing on the foundations of the old, but without being old at all. It is the today raising from the past, but smoothed out, refined, embellished, explained to the present and the future. If we were to draw a parallel with another Albanian, we could compare the music of Eda Zari with the poetry of Lasgush Poradeci, an Albanian writer of the 1930ies: the modern established on the folkloric bases. Poradeci takes the folkloric patterns of the poetic discourse, the vocabulary, the sound, the themes and the Tosk dialect of the Albanian language, casting them in new poetry, according to his own cultivated and modern spirit. Today we see Eda Zari rebuilding the folkloric songs, their text, their melody and rhythm according to her own jazz mood. In the music of Eda Zari, since the very beginning of her <b>...</b>
