I converted my Costco bike to an e-bike using a Golden Motor 48V 1000W rear hub kit from Golden Motor Canada (buy from Gary at GM Canada if you want exceptional customer service!). Top speed is about 45-50km/h, although I have gone a little over 60km/h on a slight downhill. Specs: - 26" rear 1000W hub motor - External controller - 48V 1000W 12ah lithium-ion battery - Twist Throttle, cruise control, reverse switch, horn - Top speed ~50km/h on flat, no wind, fully charged, rider 170lbs, tires 65psi, slight tuck - Range: Theoretically ~25km, however, I have yet to completely discharge the battery but it seems that with normal city riding and no pedalling it will go ~15km -acceleration: on full charge, estimate about 10 seconds to go from 0-50 (same conditions as in top speed test) Any questions let me know! My latest commuter Electric Bicycle. This is the ULTIMATE commuter bicycle!!! It goes over 20 miles on a charge, and that's with minimal pedaling. Justin Lemire-Elmore did a multimedia presentation of his technology-driven electric-fueled coast-to-coast trip from Pacific to Atlantic oceans. It was the like the best story-telling replete with colorful characters all along the way - except it was real. The one-frame-per-minute handlebar-mounted cam yielded a full length movie of the trip. The electricity used for the entire trip cost under $10 which is not much more than the average meal along the way. A bug proof hammock served as motel along the way. One important fact to remember for e-bikers is that most parking spots along the highway between Alberta and Ontario have electric outlets for engine block heaters! Dual motor e-bike reaching very fast speed of 47-48 mph in minimal space. Bicycle as seen is running at 5600W with 2WD. This bike does come with the option of running at 8000W or 5600W. We chose 5600W because we felt 8000W is not needed and just spins the tires needlessly and also puts added stress on components. The pull is quite amazing on this thing. This particular video is the first impressions of our first ride. The space we ran it is just slightly downhill but also around a bend so there is less than 350 feet to really get on the throttle. Later testing on flat ground yielded 50 MPH on GPS and Radar! Total system weight ready to ride is only 65 lbs! Bicycles are everywhere on Chinese roads, along with thousands of electric scooters. This one indicates 50Km/h at full speed but that's probably a touch optimistic (didn't go full speed in this video) On a full charge with an 80Kg+ rider using mostly full throttle this one will do just under 20 miles before pedal power is needed (it's not as hard as you might think to pedal them). A full charge costs only around 1￥ (10p) so you are looking at about 1300 miles per gallon with zero emissions (of course, with electric vehicles the emissions are passed on elsewhere to the power stations/disposal of batteries). The bikes only cost around 2000￥ (£200, £80 of that is the battery). Interestingly, the drive motor is the rear wheel hub itself, the drive chain is just for the manual crank. Update: Have now fitted a cycle computer speedo to get the true speed - max speed so far has been about 36Km/h, so about 22 Mph! Also max battery range in winter is about 25 Km, (15 Miles) before she's just about out of juice. Should be better in warm weather.
I love this bike. Only does about 30kmh (20mph) but works great. You get around 100 kilometres (60 miles) to every battery charge, which only costs $1. That's about 1c per kilometre. As it's under 200 watts (about 199) you don't need a license to ride it

Specialized has released its first E Bike the Turbo and it's fast. Powered by lithium batteries it runs up to 45 kph or 28 mph without pedaling. The only problem is it goes too fast to be legal in the US, UK and a bunch of other countries. Bummer. Oh and it costs $7300.
