Massive Education Cuts In Pennsylvania

Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uygur discuss how Pennsylvania Republican Governor Tom Corbett wants to drastically slash the education budget in his state. To make matters worse the cuts would target poor school districts while having minimal impact on the district with charter schools. Is this because a top donor to Corbett has a financial investment in charter schools? Ron Paul Plan To Restore America Press Conference

The Ron Paul 2012 Presidential Campaign announced the release of Dr. Paul's "Plan to Restore America," an ambitious federal government spending, tax and reform blueprint that as President he will implement. The plan, authored by Paul's campaign staff at his direction, promises to restore the federal government to its former Constitutionally-limited, smaller-government and less-burdensome place. The plan cuts $1 trillion in federal spending during the first year of a Paul Presidency and delivers a balanced budget in year three of a Paul Presidency. "Ron Paul's plan is the only one that seriously addresses the economic and budgetary problems our nation faces. It cuts $1 trillion in one year, and slashes regulations and taxes so our economy can grow and create jobs," said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton, a plan co-author. "It's the only plan offered by a presidential candidate that actually balances the budget and begins to pay down the debt. And it's the only plan being offered that tries to reign in the Federal Reserve and get inflation under control." Cuts totaling $1 trillion during the first year of a Paul Presidency would be achieved by eliminating five federal cabinet departments -- the Departments of Energy, Housing and Urban Development, Commerce, Interior and Education. Cuts of this scale will also be accomplished by a Paul Presidency abolishing the Transportation Security Administration and returning responsibility for security to private ...

'Snatch Squads' Caught On Camera At London Student Rally

A YouTube video shot during the November 9 student rally in London allegedly shows plainclothes police acting as agents provocateurs among the protesting crowds. The video uploaded by the user "noshockdoc" shows two people who first engage in rough handling of one of the rally protesters. Then, reportedly, the same people are shown along with six others detaining someone behind a police cordon. The media dubbed the November 9 march against tuition fees and education cuts one of the most intensively-policed events to take place in London. The force had 4000 officers on duty on the day, and they were authorized to use rubber bullets if necessary. This was never needed, however. The Met reported that 24 arrests were made on the day. Some of the protesters reported incidents of violence which they said had been caused by the security forces. "The police tried to provoke people to react violently, and some people had to act in self-defense against police attacks, but we all supported one another and prevented the police from causing a riot," one of the activists, identified only as 'Dan', told the Oxford University student newspaper Cherwell.

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder promised to "reinvent" Michigan. But after three months on the job, he's ruining Michigan. Drastic cuts to public education, closing Michigan State Police posts, months of unemployment benefits cut, and massive tax increases for seniors, middle-class families, and low-wage workers to pay for a nearly $2 billion giveaway to big corporations, big banks, insurance companies, and wealthy CEOs.

November 9th 2011 - 'It's a Revolt ' - Students march in London

From: Russia Today 'It's a Revolt!' Students march in London Published: 09 November, 2011, 16:30 Edited: 09 November, 2011, 19:33 Students took to the streets of London en masse on Wednesday to fight government funding cuts and a massive hike in tuition fees. But rubber bullets and police intimidation threaten to turn the demonstration into a bloody affair. The demonstrators gathered at the University of London in the center of the city around noon. Some 10000 people were expected to take part in the march against the privatization of education and other attacks on the welfare state. However RT's Ivor Bennett, who is reporting from the scene, estimated that only several thousand had shown up as the march began. Other estimates put the total number of protestors at 5000. It has also been reported that a group of protesters managed to break away from the main route, where they went on to erect around two dozen tents in the heart of the city on Trafalgar Square. Otherwise, the police have thus far been successful in managing the march, keeping protestors away from potent symbols like the Bank of England and the London Stock Exchange. No reports of violence or arrests have surfaced since the march began over two hours ago. Having been criticized for their mishandling of previous protests, the police announced they would be out in force this time around. With 4000 officers being deployed, the run-up to the march was fraught with tension. rt.com ...

Stand up for kids, not CEOs!

Republicans in Lansing voted to give a $1.8 billion tax break to rich CEOs and corporate special interests — paid for by cuts to our local schools. Big banks and oil companies got a massive tax break, while our children are being robbed of their opportunity to get the education and training they need to succeed. Please go to www.kidsnotCEOs.com and share your story about how school cuts have affected you and your community — and don't forget to contact your lawmaker and tell them to support kids, not CEOs.

Greek Spending Cuts Clear Way for Loans

This is the VOA Special English Economics Report, from voaspecialenglish.com | http Greece has approved a plan to cut spending, raise taxes and sell government-owned assets. The approval cleared the way for seventeen billion dollars in loans from the International Monetary Fund and the European Union. The loans are a share of the one-hundred-fifty-six-billion-dollar rescue deal that Greece secured last year. The money will help the government to operate and pay its debts until the middle of September. But the austerity plan led to a two-day general strike in Greece and violent demonstrations in Athens. Several hundred protesters and police were injured. Parliament approved the plan on June twenty-ninth, and agreed to the details the next day. Prime Minister George Papandreou won more support than expected for his proposals. He appealed to parliament to do everything possible to avoid defaulting on the debts of the birthplace of democracy. "There is a choice," he said. "We can remain a Greece which has a huge public sector, or change to a Greece which has an effective democratic and productive public sector."Greece is expected to seek more international help, even though years of government borrowing led to the crisis. Many protesters said their government is making decisions that only serve the interests of wealthy nations. But other Greeks see the need for austerity. One man said: "I think the policies are a good step towards finding common ground with the European Union ...
