New Electric Cars Are Better

Just showing off some of the cool new electric cars and putting to rest some of the myths out there. When people think of electric cars, typically they think of older ugly slower models, lead-acid batterys, and BS propaganda they've read slamming the "electric cars"(as though they all carried the exact same attributes) The battery technology has changed(and will change even more when nanowire battery becomes common), the speeds have changed, the climate versatility has changed, the prices are changing, the car companies are changing... everything is changing for the better. I expect to see a lot more support for EV's during and after 2010. Music, San Francisco, by: Global Deejays

Toyota Nürburgring electric vehicle record setting lap - in car footage

Toyota has set a new electric vehicle lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Driving a modified Radical, dubbed the EV P001, Jochen Krumbach completed the 20.8 km (12.9 mile) long course in 7 minutes and 47.794 seconds which buried the previous record of 9 minutes and 1.338 seconds that was set by the Peugeot EX1 concept. According to Rob Leupen, Toyota Motorsport's Director of Business Operations, "This is a very impressive achievement which really shows the huge potential for electric powertrains to deliver fast, exciting action on the race track. There's no doubt that electric motorsport can be every bit as thrilling as traditional racing and it was an amazing sensation to watch the TMG electric vehicle fly past on the Nordschleife, with only the sound of wind rushing past and tires squealing." As we have previously reported, the P001 features a 41.5 kWh lithium-ceramic battery which powers two electric motors that develop 381 PS (280 kW / 375 hp) and 800 Nm (590 Nm) of torque. This setup enables the 970 kg (2138 lb) car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 260 km/h (162 mph).

Revenge Of The Electric Car [Theatrical Trailer]

"RIVETING... HIGHLY ENTERTAINING" - John Lopez, Vanity Fair In 2006, as many as 5000 modern electric cars were destroyed by the major car companies that built them.Today, less than 5 years later, the electric car is back... with a vengeance. "Revenge Of The Electric Car" follows 4 larger-than-life entrepreneurs at the forefront of the electric car race. First, there's Bob Lutz -- Mr Detroit himself, the cigar-smoking vice-chairman of GM, who has been making gas-guzzling cars his entire career. He is challenged by Elon Musk, the young dot-com maverick billionaire who thinks that he can show Detroit how to build cars with his Silicon Valley-based Tesla Motors. Carlos Ghosn of Nissan-Renault, the desperately smart and ruthless businessman who singlehandedly rescued Nissan from ruin, wants to flood the market with affordable mainstream electric vehicles. And lastly, "Gadget" Abbott, a reverend/designer/engineer is one of thousands of electric car DIY-ers who together may be a force big enough to change the auto industry forever. "Revenge Of The Electric Car" opens in the US beginning Oct. 21. Coda Automotive Opens Its Electric Car Store ( Coming To A Mall Near You For Test Drives)

Coda Automotive opened their first mall store. The Coda Electric Vehicle (EV) is actually a pretty good alternative to the Nissan Leaf. While a bit pricier, the 110 mile range on the car makes it a viable commuter car and fleet vehicle. Just like the Ford Taurus used to be, and the Ford Focus is becoming, Coda is likely to be the defacto standard for Electric Fleets, with its 4 hour charge time, and great range, you could conceivably commute 70 miles to work and still have charge left over to run errands after work. Coda is an All-electric, not a Hybrid. It uses lithium iron phosphate batteries and has a 134 HP motor that generates just over 200 Foot Pounds of Torque. Electric Cars

Electric cars are something that show up in the news all the time. There are several reasons for the continuing interest in these vehicles: Electric cars create less pollution than gasoline-powered cars, so they are an environmentally friendly alternative to gasoline-powered vehicles (especially in cities). The 2011 Chevrolet Volt makes its debut as General Motors' first plug-in gas/electric vehicle. It is slated to see limited production in calendar 2010, with launches in California, Connecticut, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Texas, and Washington, DC. Nationwide availability is slated for late-calendar 2011. GM calls this 4-passenger, 4-door hatchback an "extended-range electric vehicle" in that it does not work like most hybrids. With many hybrids, their gasoline engines and battery-powered electric motors can provide power to the drive wheels. With Volt, the wheels are always driven by electricity, provided either by the onboard battery or gasoline engine that powers a generator. The car can plug in to a standard household outlet and charge overnight. A high-output 240-volt charging station will be available that should cut charging time roughly in half. Chevy claims a range of 40 miles solely on a fully charged battery and about 340 miles when the gasoline engine is used. The gas engine is an 80-horsepower 1.4-liter 4-cylinder. Available safety features include ABS, traction control, antiskid system, curtain-side airbags, front-side airbags, and driver and ...

Think Electric Car test drive

The Think City Electric Car test drive was very fun, this is a small and affordable car that will be available for sale in the US in the next few months and we really look forward to it. The fully charged car goes as far as 100 miles and it's a perfect weekday car to go to work and drive around the city. The car was brought from Michigan to California for a special event and we were lucky enough to drive it. The Think City electric vehicle looks small from the outside but is fairly large and tall on the inside, I felt really safe driving it. It's a little noisy inside but nothing bad. The maximum speed is around 70 miles per hour (112 Km) and they didn't want to tell me how much it would cost but I have my guesses ($10000 to 15000) since, well, it's made out of plastic. Another benefit of the body is that it wouldn't get scratched. The car comes with a radio and has an option for a GPS, two things I definitely need! Other interesting facts are that the battery lasts 100000 miles or a minimum of ten years, something other cars won't live to see! Lastly, the first maintenance check is at 40000 miles. Think EV is a Scandinavian company that calls themselves "one of the most carbon efficient car companies in the world". I just took a look at their new Think City design and I like it much better than this one we test drove. I hope we'll be able to see them take over the roads of major US cities and our very own garages! What could be better than never going to a gas station ...
