Quitgas! Clean, Quiet, Fun, Electric Motorcycle

Update February 2009 Well, I am happy with this project except for one issue in order to service batteries and experiment with the bike, clear access to the batteries and electronics is needed. Unfortunately, removing the Ninja bodywork for this access requires removing the mirrors, front blinkers and windscreen, making the bike unsafe probably illegal to ride. The solution is some type of one-piece body that is easily removed and does not support the mirrors and blinkers. So back into the garage it goes! So far Ive tried several ideas for the bodywork all have been unsuccessful (or really ugly!). My goal is to be back on the road by Summer 09 with the new bodywork and updated batteries. Will update the video when completed! See ya then! Note: if youre really interested in this bike, be sure to read through (all) the comments for a lot of information! ------------------------ ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: Backyard project to create a form of local transportation WITHOUT burning gasoline. Since I work within 5 miles of my home and do a lot of local running around, the idea was to leave the car at home and commute with clean, quiet electric power as much as possible. Have been on the road only a few weeks -- still in the testing/adjusting phase, but so far it looks like this: Bike has a lot (too much) low end torque so it is pretty quick from a standing start. However, the top speed right now is about 45mph. Since I started with a low 6:1 gear ratio, I have plenty of room to change ...

All Electric Motorcycle Project

This video documents my conversion of a 1978 Suzuki GS550 to all electric. Although I am very happy with this version, it won't be long before I start on a second, much faster electric motorcycle. UPDATE: After getting over 9000 views in one day, thanks almost entirely to the Czech Republic and Slovakia, I realized I need to put more info on here. First, this was on a student budget for fun. I did all the CAD, designing, machining, etc. This was also the first and only motorcycle I have ridden or worked on. I am very passionate about electric vehicles or just getting away from 30% efficient internal combustion. The panels are good for a mile of range every hour and a half, should be able to double output in the next version, however, at this point, the solar is a supplementary system. Wall charging takes less than 3 hours and costs about 20 cents. Specs: Top Speed: 40MPH Range: 16-24 miles depending on riding habits Acceleration: Better than traffic Battery Pack: 48V 55Ah Marine Deep Cycle (Energy of 1/12 a gallon of gasoline) Power: Maybe 15hp, will dyno soon. The next motorcycle is in the design stages, I will be doing several things that have never been done on any motorcycle before and will make some big steps at closing the gap between gasoline and electric. I am also working on genetically engineering a tree to grow money so I can pay for it.

My 48 Volt Electric Motorcycle

This is an all electric motorcycle that I built in my garage over the span of 6-8 months. The first couple months were concentrated on tearing the original bike apart, researching the electric propulsion equipment and planning all of the necessary frame modifications. I worked on this bike on a very part-time basis as I am currently enrolled as a full time college student. The actual build process started in late July and lasted through November. Specs: 50 MPH Top Speed. 25 Mile Range. Equipment: 4x BB EB50-12 Batteries Alltrax 4865 Motor Controller Etek-R Brushed DC Electric Motor Allbright Contactor Magura 0-5k Potentiometer Throttle 25 Amp Quickcharge Charger

Lightning Motorcycle World's Fastest Electric SuperBike- Bonneville 2011

Run 6 of 6. This was a "video run" as the camera was right in front of Paul's face. We had some side wind (notice the bike is leaning) but the camera was angled a bit so it looks worse than it was. Paul's previous run was faster at 218.6 mph and is the first electric motorcycle to go over 200 mph. Check out the black and orange markers on the sides of the track. They are 1/4 mile apart. By the way we used 18 cents of electricity on this run and were getting the equivalent of over 50 mpg at over 200 mph. The amount of energy in the batteries would allow over 100 miles of range at normal highway speeds (not 200+).

Electric Motorcycle on the Parkway

This 100% Electric Motorcycle can go 50 mph and has a range of 50+ miles. It uses an all electric motor, so there's no gasoline, motor oil or other petrochemicals. It has a digital display so you'll know how much electricity you've used and the onboard charger lets you extended the range. It was built to be a reliable and dependable daily driver and performs as such. Just turn the key and go. When you get done riding, plug it in the wall. It's that simple. It currently has about 1500 miles on it with about 200+ miles added every week. The motorcycle frame is an all steel construction with no plastic parts. There are over 30 hours of welding and the quality reflects that. It handles very responsively with most of the 325 lbs weight below the axle line. The leather covered seat has an aggresive rear radius that keeps you in the saddle when accelerating. It's comfortable suspension rides on dual billet shocks with powder coated stainless steel springs. The seat pan is extra thick with 2 studs on the front for seat adjustment. The removable steel body panels are sealed to protect the batteries, controller and electronics. The 1 piece "gas tank" houses the 13 amp 110 Volt charger for quick recharging at a rate of 1 hour for every 10-15 miles traveled. The chain-less direct drive hub motor is built into the rear wheel and is the most powerful motor of it's kind. It uses a higher voltage, lower current design to minimize losses from over heating. The motor is able to achieve ...

2010 Zero MX Electric Motorcycle Review Read the FULL REVIEW at: www.motorcycle.com It's been exactly a year since we tested the Zero X, and the new MX gave us a moment of deja vu, since its frame, battery and motor are virtually identical. Last year, we found the 'X' to be the most resolved — and most fun — little bike in the fledgling electric motorcycle class. At about 140 pounds, it betrayed the company's Chief Technical Officer Neal Saiki's previous work as a mountain bike designer.
