Wirelessly Charging Electrical Vehicles

A Stanford University research team has designed a high-efficiency charging system that uses magnetic fields to wirelessly transmit large electric currents between metal coils placed several feet apart. The long-term goal of the research is to develop an all-electric highway that wirelessly charges cars and trucks as they cruise down the road. Three-Wheel Electric Cars Gaining Popularity across China

For more news and videos visit ☛ english.ntdtv.com Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me Small three-wheel electric cars are becoming popular in densely populated cities across China, especially Beijing. This is because owners don't need a license to drive an electric vehicle, or EV, as it's currently not classified as a car in China. And commuters can use the city's bike lanes to dodge the notorious traffic congestions. It's a convenient mode of transport for many. [Li Hongming, Teacher]: "This kind of vehicle is smaller than a gas car. You don't need to sit in traffic jams. It saves time, and it doesn't need gas, which is quite expensive, so you can save money." The hooded three-wheel EV cruises at a maximum speed of about 19 miles an hour. It uses a removable battery that can be charged from a regular electrical socket at home. EV retailers say sales are booming. [Feng Luya, Shop Owner] "Now each month we can sell 50 to 80 vehicles. The customers say they're really useful." The price of a three-wheel EV ranges from $600 to $1500—making it highly affordable. Cheaper, slower-speed EVs sell faster than the high-speed models. Even the highly state-subsidized BYD E6 high-speed model still costs about $60000. This is way above what most city dwellers can afford. In rural China, farmers prefer the larger four-wheeled EVs with a top speed of 30 miles an hour. Last year, the Shandong Shifeng Group—a manufacturer of the slow-speed four-wheel EVs—sold 70000 ...

Here's an vehicle which I think will hit the market soon. I think this Hiriko is cool uncle-bugs.blogspot.com The CityCar or MIT CityCar is an urban all-electric concept car designed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab. The project was conceived by the late William J. Mitchell and his Smart Cities Research Group. It is now led by Kent Larson, Director of the Changing Places Research Group at the Media Lab. The project came into conception in 2003 under the support of General Motors and a team led by ]. The CityCar weighs less than 1000 pounds (450 kg), is 60% the size of a Smart Car, and its lithium-ion battery pack is expected to deliver the equivalent of 150 to 200 mpg-us (1.2 to 1.6 L/100 km; 180 to 240 mpg-imp) with no tailpipe emissions. Time Magazine selected the CityCar as one of the "Best Inventions of 2007. Hiriko, a Spanish consortium, is building prototypes for testing in Boston, Singapore, Taiwan and Florence by mid 2011, and commercialization is scheduled for late 2012. Toyota Nürburgring electric vehicle record setting lap - in car footage

Toyota has set a new electric vehicle lap record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Driving a modified Radical, dubbed the EV P001, Jochen Krumbach completed the 20.8 km (12.9 mile) long course in 7 minutes and 47.794 seconds which buried the previous record of 9 minutes and 1.338 seconds that was set by the Peugeot EX1 concept. According to Rob Leupen, Toyota Motorsport's Director of Business Operations, "This is a very impressive achievement which really shows the huge potential for electric powertrains to deliver fast, exciting action on the race track. There's no doubt that electric motorsport can be every bit as thrilling as traditional racing and it was an amazing sensation to watch the TMG electric vehicle fly past on the Nordschleife, with only the sound of wind rushing past and tires squealing." As we have previously reported, the P001 features a 41.5 kWh lithium-ceramic battery which powers two electric motors that develop 381 PS (280 kW / 375 hp) and 800 Nm (590 Nm) of torque. This setup enables the 970 kg (2138 lb) car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 260 km/h (162 mph).

2012 Nissan - Electric Vehicles Gaining Momentum and Advocates

Electric Vehicles Gaining Momentum and Advocates LOS ANGELES -- Electric vehicles are expanding in scope, size, and shape. It's a transformation that started nearly a decade ago and is just now solidifying. Established car makers like Nissan have invested big because they are confident in an electric revolution. "Let's jump the end game. The end game is a full-electric car," said Nissan Executive Vice President Andy Palmer. Electric Vehicle Advocate Chelsea Sexton agrees that electric cars are no longer an idea of the future. She said they're the cars with the most class and "cool." "They're cool and they're fast and they're fun and the new thing to have," said Sexton. Electric cars started slow. The first models were less advanced, but the latest Nissan LEAF and even newer Infiniti LE take going electric to a higher tier. "It's quiet and it's clean. There are so many merits around it," said Palmer. "This is no longer if it will happen and maybe. It will happen. This is, it's happening," said Sexton. Nissan has already sold 28000 LEAFs worldwide. There are so many drivers in San Francisco, for example, that they actually formed a club called the BayLEAFs. "I've been in high technology all my life. I've worked for Apple. I've worked for Microsoft. I've worked on the space shuttle. I've done all kinds of crazy things, and the next big thing has always been my passion. EVs are the next big thing," said BayLEAFs President Gary Lieber. Lieber signed up to buy a LEAF two years ...

9 Electric Vehicles for 2012 @ LA Show

Greenfamilycar.com automotive editors and the Family Car cousins Keith Turner and Dean Adams Curtis, review 9 electric vehicles that middle income families will be able to choose from among in 2012. All these new 2012 electric vehicles were on display recently during the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show. Among a broad range of more fuel efficient and more environmentally friendly vehicles, the following 9 electric vehicles will be available from auto dealers in 2012. In no particular order and numbered for your convenience (and ours) at keeping count, they are 1) the Honda Leaf EV, 2) the Ford Focus EV, 3) Mitsubishi's MiEV (said "My EV"), 4) the Ford Transit Connect Electric, which is perfect for small business owners, 5) BMW's Active E, 6) Tesla's Model S, 7) the Coda sedan assembled in the Los Angeles area, and finally, bringing up the last of the list of electric vehicles that might possibly be in your price range, the two EVs that have been around for a year since the 2010 LA Auto Show, namely the 8) Volt, 5300 of which have been sold in the past year, as well as 9) the sales leading Nissan Leaf, which is the hands of 8000 owners. So there you have the full list of the 9 EVs we show in the video, the ones we feel might be within reach of your family EV budget, especially if you're in the market for a second car, or need to replace an existing second car!

Growing Pains for Electric Vehicle Manufacturers

Electric vehicles hold the promise of reducing both emissions and our dependence on foreign oil. EV supporters say the electric car is a business opportunity unrivaled since we got off the horse. But many potential EV owners are concerned about the higher price of electric cars and their limited range, compared to gasoline-fueled models. Correspondent Lee Patrick Sullivan looks at the independent carmakers and big auto companies trying to charge up the transition to EVs and convince American drivers that going electric is really worth it.
