Henri Lansbury Wonder Goal | England U21 4-0 Belgium U21 29/2/12

A convincing 4-0 win over Belgium in Boro sees Under-21s back on track. England Under-21s collected a valuable three points against Belgium here in Middlesbrough to move themselves seven points clear at the top of their UEFA European Championship Qualifying group. Cheered on by nearly 23000 fans at the Riverside, England moved a step closer to the Finals in Israel next summer. A brace from Henri Lansbury, one from Steven Caulker and a late Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain penalty gave the Three Lions a comfortable win, which also put to bed Belgium's hopes of overhauling their lead in the table. With Stuart Pearce away with the Senior Team, Brian Eastick took the reins temporarily, but was very keen to ensure that things stayed the same. What he did want to see change, though, was England's creativity in the final third, after they dominated the game away in Belgium in November, but conceded two late goals to lose the match 2-1. Victory here would have given England a great chance to reach the Euro 2013 play-offs, with two games to play. And Lansbury gave them the perfect start, swinging in a deep cross-shot from the left flank. It looked promising as soon as it left his right boot and dipped perfectly under the bar to make it 1-0. He almost grabbed a second from twenty yards five minutes later, but Koen Casteels was at full stretch to push away for a corner. The visitors weren't keeping quiet, though, and through Thomas Meunier they had their first chance, forcing Jack Butland ...

England 4-1 Israel U21 International 05-09-11 | Official Highlights

Second-half fightback sees Young Lions beat Israel in Barnsley. England Under-21s came from a goal down at half-time to run out 4-1 winners over Israel in Barnsley. Second half goals from Martyn Waghorn, Marvin Sordell, a Nathan Delfouneso penalty and Henri Lansbury, made for an impressive comeback as the new-look Three Lions built on Thursday's Euro 2013 Qualifying win over Azerbaijan. But this one was a friendly, allowing Stuart Pearce to make nine changes from the side in Watford four days earlier as he looked at some more fresh faces. Just defender Craig Dawson and captain Jack Rodwell retained their place. There were three debutants in the shape of Manchester United keeper Ben Amos, Everton midfielder Ross Barkley and Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom, while there were four other first-time starters; Dan Gosling of Newcastle United, Marvin Sordell of Watford, Jonjo Shelvey of Liverpool and Hull City loanee Waghorn. However, England had very little to smile about during a first half that was largely dominated by Israel. 17-year-old Barkley, who was lively in his first outing and looked comfortable on the ball, delivered a powerful 19th-minute strike from 25 yards which was one moment to savour, but goalkeeper Boris Kleyman parried away well. Shelvey came close from the same distance, this time from a free-kick which beat the wall but dipped just a fraction too late, missing the bar by a whisker. There were also headers at the back post from both Dawson and Gosling, but ...

Iceland 0-3 England U21's | Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Hat Trick | U21 Highlights

Chamberlain grabs a hat-trick to inspire England win. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain inspired England to a comfortable 3-0 victory in Iceland with a well-taken hat-trick in Reykjavik to put Stuart Pearce's team top of Euro 2013 Qualifying Group 8. The Arsenal winger was a handful all night and a quick-fire brace inside 15 minutes put England in charge in what could have been a very tricky encounter. He added a fortuitous third just after half-time and cap a fine man-of-the-match performance in what was his fourth game for the Under-21s. It was a chilly night at Laugardalsvollur, Iceland's national stadium, but a healthy, if not noisy, crowd turned out in numbers. However, they had to see their team concede two early goals. The opener came following some good work on the half-way line from Watford striker Marvin Sordell. He turned well before being tripped, but the French referee allowed play to go on and the ball rolled into the path of the Arsenal winger. Chamberlain sprinted forward making his way into the area before tucking away past Arnar Petursson. It was his first goal for Pearce's team. And two minutes later he made it two, this time profiting from a lapse by the Iceland stopper. Nathan Delfouneso sent in an in-swinging cross from the left which looked easy for Petursson, but it slipped out of his grasp and fell kindly for Chamberlain who side-footed home. Unfortunately it was to be Delfouneso's last action of the game as midway through the half, after attempting a back ...

England's Young Lions will now be brimming with confidence as they prepare for a friendly against Israel on Monday and Pearce believes it will be the ideal preparation for two tough away games against Iceland and Norway. Pearce said: "It was pleasing. There were a lot of good things and a lot of people making their debuts. There are some really good things we can take from that and it is a building block. "It is the first result of the campaign and I am looking forward to the game on Monday so I can look at one or two. We can come away from these games and have something to think about for the real tough October and November. "Across the board we can improve all-round. Any manager has got to take a 6-0 victory to kick-off the campaign. We have put down a marker now and we have got to improve on that. "I thought Lansbury was very good and Henderson played well and captained the team extremely well. Dawson did well in his first game getting two goals and looked a real threat from set plays. England U21 - Official Highlights - Germany 2-0 England - U21 Official Highlights

International Under 21s Football Friendly: Germany 2 - 0 England Stuart Pearce was in a positive mood despite seeing his Under-21s beaten 2-0 in Germany and have a man sent off. Trailing 1-0 at the break, the young England side, featuring a total of seven debutants, had goalkeeper Jason Steele dismissed for a professional foul. It came just 13 minutes into the Middlesbrough stopper's first appearance after he replaced Scott Loach at half-time, and Pearce believes it defined the game. The penalty was converted by German forward Cenk Tosun to give the home side an unassailable lead, despite the efforts of the ten men. And as well as the spirit showed by his side, Pearce also praised midfielder Henri Lansbury who took the gloves with no third keeper available. "We were disappointed with the first goal we conceded, but it was an interesting game," said Pearce after the game. "It was a good exercise for both teams and two good nations and eventually the best team won on the evening. "The game hinged on the penalty situation and the player getting sent off," continued Pearce. "I've not seen it again. I think it was one of those scenarios where a penalty will suffice. The game was probably finished when the ball hit the net from the penalty spot. "As a spectacle for the fans it spoiled the game. It might have been the right decision but it's one of those things that happens when you are a goalkeeper." He added: "Henry put himself forward and I thought he was outstanding ...

The Official England Youtube Channel - U21 Shooting Practice - England vs Romania 05/10/10

FATV - The England U21 strikers practice their shooting ahead of their first leg game against Romania. Danny Welbeck finds the back of the net with an awesome chip. Stuart Pearce added a fresh face to his England Under-21 squad today, ahead of two play-off games with Romania this week. England v Romania UEFA European Under-21 Championship 2011 Play-Off First Leg 7.30pm, Friday 8 October 2010 Carrow Road, Norwich City FC Manchester City defender Kieran Trippier, 20, has been drafted in to what is now a squad of 21, following the withdrawal of three players in the last 24 hours. With defenders Micah Richards and Kieran Gibbs both missing through injury and 'keeper Alex Smithies staying at Huddersfield with a dead leg, Pearce has given Trippier a debut call-up to his Under-21 squad. Trippier, currently on loan at Barnsley, has previously represented England Under-20s and will join the squad later this afternoon at their Norwich base. Pearce and the rest of his Young Lions met up in Norwich yesterday in preparation for the first leg of their crunch play-off tie with Romania at Carrow Road on Friday. Ukraine 0-0 England | U21 European Championship Post Match reaction

Frustrating night for Three Lions as Ukraine cling on for draw. Defences were the winner in Herning on Wednesday night as neither England or Ukraine could find the decisive goal to edge this tight Group B encounter. Daniel Sturridge and Danny Welbeck both had chances for England, while Yevhen Konoplyanka and Roman Zozulya came close for the Ukrainians, but the 'keepers, Frank Fielding and Anton Kanibolotskiy, were equal to anything that came their way. It now means that England go into Sunday's game against Czech Republic needing three points to reach the semi-finals. England started brightly though and it was Sturridge who showed the swagger that Stuart Pearce was looking for after the draw with Spain, as he collected the ball from deep with less than five minutes played and made a forward run before being brought down for a foul. It was Ukraine and their forward Denys Garmash, who scored against the Three Lions in the 2009 European U19 Championship Final, who had the game's first real attempt. He struck from 25 yards after a strong run, but a deflection took the ball well wide of Fielding's goal. Fielding was tested minutes later though, doing well to scramble across his goal to beat out a low drive from Konoplyanka. Ryan Bertrand was then fouled defending the rebound as Maxym Biliy looked to pounce. Ukraine were looking lively as England struggled to get a foothold in the opening half-hour. Sturridge was the most threatening player in a white shirt and almost showed ...

Craig Dawson on the disappointing late goal | Belgium 2-1 England - U21 International

A double substitution helped Belgium come from a goal down as they beat England's Under-21s in Mons. Jens Naessens and Omar El Kaddouri netted crucial strikes to consign Stuart Pearce's Group 8 leaders to their first defeat of the season and keep alive their own hopes of reaching the Euro 2013 play-offs. The Three Lions still sit top of the group as they bring their 2011 fixture calendar to a close, but the win for Franck Dury's side sees them leapfrog Norway into second place and close the gap on England to four points. And it all started so well for the visitors when Liverpool's Martin Kelly, scorer of the second of five against Iceland on Thursday night, got the opener on 14 minutes, heading in off the post. Belgium's late show, though, keeps England in touch with the other teams in the table. England had dominated the possession early on but the first opportunity was for the home side when Brugge forward Thomas Meunier collected a pass in the right side of the Three Lions' box and, beating Craig Dawson, slid a ball across the six yard box. Ziguy Badibanga was looking to get on the end of it, but Adam Smith was on hand to turn away for a corner. Marvin Sordell's back header from Jordan Henderson's corner was as close as England came in the first ten minutes, but Koen Casteels always knew it would drop over the bar. However, he could do nothing about Kelly's header just before the quarter-hour mark. MK Dons defender Smith attacked on the right flank but was chopped down ...
