Playlist - Jean Michel Jarre - Full Albums: www.youtube.com Équinoxe (English: "equinox") was the second major-label album release by French musician Jean Michel Jarre, released on Disques Dreyfus (with license to Polydor) in late 1978. The album reflects a day in the life of a human being, from morning to night.[citation needed] Parts 1 to 4 (ie side A) and tracks 5 to 8 (side B) segué smoothly from one to the next. Jarre had developed his sound, employing more dynamic and rhythmic elements, particularly a greater use of sequencing on basslines. Much of this was achieved using custom equipment developed by his collaborator Michel Geiss. The release was followed by a concert on the Place de la Concorde, Paris on July 14, 1979. The concert attracted 1 million people, becoming Jarre's first entry in the Guinness Book of Records for the largest crowd for an outdoor concert. Two singles were released from the album, "Équinoxe Part 5" first, and then "Équinoxe Part 4". Part of "Équinoxe Part 8" has been played live with different arrangements, including a version for an acoustic street organ, under the title of "Band in the Rain". The album reached #11 in the UK charts and #126 in the US charts. The rare 1978 single version of Equinoxe Part 5 by Jean Michel Jarre recorded in analogue. This version was the original version of Equinoxe Part 5 included on early tape and vinyl albums, until Jarre remixed it with a different version which is now standard on the Equinoxe CD albums and compilation albums.

"Equinoxe part 1" - on ELKA EP-8
This is the proof that you can do something fantastic with just a computer - or a tape recorder - and a home organ bought for next to nothing at a charity sale. Purists will probably say that I should play this piece on an Eminent organ like JMJarres. But I think the ELKA does a good job and they are easier to find. I also wanted to somehow illustrate the seven separate tracks without some fancy video tricks. But you can see for yourself how I solved that....

My cover version of Equinoxe 7 starts out as a regular cover - ie. not an exact replica (I generally like to make my own versions) but it follows the concept of the original song quite closely. But then - about 6:20 into the video - I do a little improvisation based on the nice "Equinoxe groove" that's going on at that moment. A Jarre-trained ear might hear a hint of Jarre's "Arpegiator" from Concerts in China in there. Luckily for you, YouTube has a max limit of 10 minutes per video, because I could go on like that forever. :-) ------------------------------------------- I was quite surprised when I learned that Jarre himself linked to this video in his personal blog at aerojarre.blogspot.com and added it to the favourites on his YouTube channel at www.youtube.com ! I had my doubts whether adding my own ideas and improvisations to this great piece was the right thing to do, or if it would be compared to letting a kid with some paint try to improve the original "Mona Lisa"... ;-) Now I know the answer to that! :-) As a self-taught amateur/aspiring musician and a long-time fan of Jarre's work (it was actually Jarre's music that made me so interested in music, synthesizers and keyboards in the first place), such an approval from Jarre really means a lot to me. This is part 4 from JMJ's 1978 electronic music epic, "Équinoxe." This particular piece is probably the most popular one from the album, and it's certainly my favourite from the album. The video itself consists yet again of space art taken from fanpop.com. (Part of the problem is that there is so much quality space art worth using on the site.
