Etna has a spectacular paroxysm (video) that produced first strombolian explosions at the summit, then a lava flow that headed down Valle del Bolle along with a fire fountain in the crater that fed the show display (see below). NASA pieced together images to create this amazing video clip, showing about 19 hours of activity. NASA's STEREO spacecraft has captured spectacular images of a solar eruption, the largest solar prominence in 15 years. The activity was caught on camera in extreme UV light as the prominence blasted away from the sun on April 12 and April 13. Prominences are cool clouds of plasma that hover above the Sun's surface, notoriously unstable and on occasion they erupt like this one. However, this one was much more dramatic than most, NASA says. A central Florida man angry that his daughter had been the victims of school bullies turned bully himself, caught on surveillance cameras when he boarded a Seminole Countyschool bus and started screaming at the children to leave his kid alone. His rant bought him a trip to jail. James Jones ordered the kids aboard the bus to sit down, and after asking his daughter to identify the kids who had been bothering her, threatened to kill a child who "fought her". The whole incident was caught on tape by the security cameras on the bus. The driver is shown allowing Jones on the bus, and doing nothing as he makes his threats. It has been a few days since we have seen new video posted from this specific volcano in Japan -- the webcams are on 24/7 (linked below). The agency which monitors this area issued an alert mid-way last year (2011) for the possibility of a large scale eruption from Sakurajima , with a possible associated pyroclastic flow which could result from a large ash plume fallout. This alert still remains active, and if you live in Japan around this area directly, be aware these eruptions will continue into the near term and long term future... its only a matter of time before a very large eruption occurs. Filmed this video from my patio deck across the bay from Etna and the city of Catania approximately 50 miles away from the eruption, early morning of January 13 2011. Unfortunately, the lava began to slowly head towards the town of Kapoho, destroying papaya fields along the way. Homeowners had plenty of time to evacuate, but eventually the stores and homes were burned and then covered by the lava. Video includes the photographer rescuing his car from an advancing aa flow, the Kapoho schoolhouse burning, and the formation of black sand as lava enters the sea. Professional photographer Fred Rackle filmed the eruption with a B&H movie camera and a tripod. Decades later, he donated a narrated SVHS copy to CSAV, with permission to distribute.
