Essentially a mouthpiece for singer and songwriter Leonard Dillon, the Ethiopians were one of Jamaica's most influential vocal groups during their heyday. Not only did the duo (completed by Stephen Taylor) spearhead the transition between ska and rocksteady, Dillon's heavily Rastafarian lyrics also paved the way for the socially conscious roots reggae era that was to come. Born in Port Antonio in 1942, Dillon grew up in a Christian family and discovered music through their church. Having written some original songs, he moved to Kingston in 1963; finding the going difficult, he returned home for a time to regroup, but made the move back to Kingston permanently in 1964. Not long after, he met Peter Tosh, who liked his original material and introduced Dillon to the rest of the Wailers. The Wailers in turn brought Dillon to Clement "Coxsone" Dodd's Studio One, where Dillon made his first recordings under the name Jack Sparrow. Two Sparrow singles, "Ice Water" and "Suffering on the Land," were both released in 1965. Around the same time, Dillon discovered a street-corner singing duo consisting of Taylor and singer/guitarist Aston Morris. At first, he invited them to sing backup for him, then decided to form a full-fledged group dubbed the Ethiopians. Together they cut several excellent singles for Studio One in 1966, including "Free Man," "Live Good," and the ska/rocksteady-bridging "Owe Me No Pay Me." Morris, a songwriter in his own right, elected to leave the group by the ...

Ethiopians held a protest at the Knesset against racism and discrimination in Israeli society after an investigative television report revealed that over 100 Israeli families in the town of Kiryat Malakhi had signed an agreement not to rent or sell apartments to Ethiopians. They came because they want to send a message to lawmakers that they must do more to protect their rights. Their posters were in English, Amharic (a Semitic language in Ethiopia), and Hebrew. Many of them simply said "stop the discrimination." Protestors proceeded to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's house and afterwards to the center of Jerusalem at Zion Square. Kadima opposition leader Tzipi Livni had this to say at the protest, "The story of these Ethiopians coming to Israel is one of the greatest stories of Zionism, and they need to know that we respect them as a society, and that the Israeli government gives them what any Israeli citizen gets. This is something that matters to standard of living [and] respect, and this is something that needs to be done today. It's not an Ethiopian problem, it's a problem of the Israeli society."

Ethiopia land grab displacing thousands To see more go to www.youtube.com Follow us on Facebook (goo.gl or Twitter (www.twitter.com In Ethiopia, one of the hungriest countries in the world, small farmers and communities are being moved off their land as international agribusinesses take over large swathes of fertile farmland. Over the last three years an area the size of Britain has been handed over to corporations to make way for large-scale industrial farming in Ethiopia. With cheap rates and incentives, companies are pouring in to the exploit the land the government has cleared of its people. Many of the displaced are too scared to complain:"what power do we have to stop them? We just stay silent", says one farmer. Despite promises of a better life, many Ethiopians are being left within nothing. Ethiopian Farm Minister, Wondirad Mandefro, shrugs: "they have to abandon their previous way of life". Must watch interview! Fasil & Aba Nikodimos ...Watch it yourself and judge. You will see what the OLF/ESAT soldier Fasil who tried so hard to exonerate OLF for the genocide of thousands of Ethiopians in Harrarghi Province in collaboration with TPLF Weyane during the invasion of Ethiopia in 1991 by fascist TPLF Tigre Weyanes, led by the butcher and bloodthirsty Legesse Zenawi and Co. It's a matter of time for the fascists to destroy themselves including the pseudo oppositions. They have massacred our people for so long and the people say ... Never again! This interview was conducted on ESAT TV. But ESAT TV's journalist not only tried to put the blame for the atrocities against Amharas on OPDO and TPLF, but also tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to exonerate OLF. What is even more nauseating is the fact that ESAT removed this videotaped interview from its website so that viewers may not come to know about the atrocities OLF perpetrated against Amharas as told by this priest who witness what OLF did from close range. And this ties up with the present flirtation of Ginbot 7 with OLF. This tells us a lot about the self-serving claim that Esat TV is promoting independent journalism. This tells us also a lot as to whom Esat serves as a mouthpiece. As the saying goes, action speaks more than words!!!!! Please pass on this videotaped interview to all concerned Ethiopians who should know about what OLF, OPDO and TPLF did to innocent Amharas who were brutalized by these evil groups ...

Ethiopians living in London and its vicinity held a massive protest against Ethiopian dictator Meles Zenawi, who was in London to attend the Somalia Conference. Ethiopia's independent Television satellite network was on the scene to report the massive rally. One protestor told ESAT reporter that Meles Zenawi is a dictator who terrorizes 80 million people and should not have been invited to attend a meeting much less one that discusses about peace in Somalia.

Thousands of Ethiopians protested in the streets of Jerusalem against discrimination after a recent report in Israeli media that more than 100 families in Kiryat Malakhi had agreed not to sell or rent real estate to Ethiopian Jews. Hate graffiti with the words "Ethiopian price tag" -- a reference to right-wing attacks against Palestinians -- was spray-painted on walls and vehicles in the town. Ethiopians at the rally waved banners and chanted as crowds gathered near the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, to demand an end to the recent wave of racially motivated attacks. Israeli opposition leader Tzipi Livni came to the demonstration to show support, but was booed by the protesters. She had this to say, "It's a legitimate protest, it's an outcry from the bottom of their hearts. And even if along the way someone gets hurt, it's absolutely fine. It's their right. It's their right to shout." Israel's 110000-strong Ethiopian community has long complained of prejudice against them in Israel. Israel's chief rabbis determined formally in 1973 that Ethiopian Jews were descendants of the Jewish biblical tribe of Dan and were entitled to immigrate to Israel. Tens of thousands arrived from Ethiopia in airlifts in the 1980s and 1990s.

Activists believe black women are deliberately being given a controversial contraceptive, to bring about a drop in the population - a claim the government denies. Thousands of Ethiopians have immigrated to Israel since the 1980s, but their Jewish heritage has been questioned, while their social status continues to suffer.

Human rights abuse in Ethiopia. The video starts with Menelik II (1896-to 2011). The video shows the main points of Ethiopian history. From the Italian Invasion, to the emergence of the Derg, and then the fall of the Derg and emergence of the the TPLF. In the video you will find various prominent Ethiopians who sacrificed their lives for Ethiopia. Some are still alive but most have passed away as they were victims of dictatorial regimes. TPLF human rights abuse is unmatched like none-other, and this is because the TPLF has implanted the seed of division and hate so much that Ethiopia today is in eminent danger of a genocide.

Debre Damo is the name of a flat-topped mountain, or amba, and a 6th century monastery in northern Ethiopia. The mountain is steeply rising plateau of trapezoidal shape, about 1000 by 400 meters in dimension, having an elevation of 2216 meters above sea level, and located west of Adigrat in the Mehakelegnaw Zone of the Tigray Region. The monastery, accessible only by rope up a sheer cliff, is known for its collection of manuscripts, and having the earliest existing church building in Ethiopia still in its original style. Tradition claims the monastery was founded in the sixth century by Abuna Aregawi. The monastery received its first archeological examination by E. Littman who led a German expedition to northern Ethiopia in the early 20th century. By the time David Buxton saw the ancient church in the mid-1940s, he found it "on the point of collapse";[1] a few years later, the English architect DH Matthews assisted in the restoration of the building, which included the rebuilding of one of its wood and stone walls (a characteristic style of Aksumite architecture).[2] Thomas Pakenham, who visited the church in 1955, records a tradition that Debre Damo had also once been a royal prison for heirs to the Emperor of Ethiopia, like the better known Wehni and Amba Geshen. The exterior walls of the church were built of alternating courses of limestone blocks and wood, "fitted with the projecting stumps that Ethiopians call 'monkey heads.'" Once inside, Pakenham was in awe of what ...

Deurgists would argue Deurge was better than woyane. But, Mingestu established undemocratic, brutal regime in which there was no rule of law, there was no room for different views or alternative political path ways. So who ever replaced this cruel regime naturally would expect to be loved or accepted by Ethiopians. Part of the answers for this questions are these: 1 although woyne get rid off the evil deurge regime, it established a system where non-tegree Ethiopians made to feel second citizen this feeling lead to hate and anger which is awaiting a right time to burst out.
