Survival Evasion Resistance & Escape SERE 1
SERE is a military acronym for Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape, a program that provides military personnel, Department of Defense civilians and private military contractors with training in evading capture, survival skills and the military code of conduct. Established by the United States Air Force at the end of the Korean War (1950--53), it was extended during the Vietnam War (1959--75) to the Army, Navy and Marines. Most higher level SERE students are military aircrew and special operations personnel considered to be at high risk of capture. The Air Force SERE School is located at Fairchild AFB, Washington, while SERE Training for the US Army is located at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and at Fort Rucker, Alabama. The Navy and Marine Corps SERE School has two locations: the US Navy Remote Training Site at Warner Springs, California and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine. Code of conduct: SERE training is intended, above all, to provide students with the skills needed to live up to the US military code of conduct when in uncertain or hostile environments. "USAF Evasion Exercise" by Nutnfancy
Behind enemy lines, trying to stay free, stay alive, and get rescued. At least that is the scenario on this E&E (Escape and Evasion) Exercise performed in the rugged hills of the western US with my military unit. As a participant taking the exercise seriously, it was a hard job to film and narrate...did the best I could. But you will get a feeling of the work involved as my evasion partner and I take the high (very high!) route to avoid machine gun wielding bad guys. It worked and, as in real life, they weren't that motivated to take on the steep hill climb and rugged terrain. Using cover as best as possible, quiet talking, and fast movement, we make our way to the "partisan" checkpoints and press on. However we are hemmed in at the road and come very close to discovery. The Multicam TRUs I wore helped a lot (and yes we have the option of using whatever we want, just like in the jet in our own personal survival kits that supplement the vests). We meet up with the rest of our crew (four total) and successfully accelerate up hill again away from threat. We are on track to again be number 1 to the next checkpoint when a exercise member is injured (ankle). The exercise is called quits after a few hours and we all hump it back in. This was make up exercise for members of our unit; the full-on evasion exercise and scenario had played out earlier in the summer. Good times, hard hiking, good practice in use of cover and stealthy travel. Oh yeah, and don't wear black...it stands <b>...</b>

Settings1: i.imgur.com Settings2: i.imgur.com -Afterburner as "." is really a remapped mouse button under my scroll wheel so I can hold it while I steer. I use sprint the same way so it's second nature. -Free-look is remapped to LSHIFT because I can hold it down effortlessly, without moving my WASD fingers while doing multiple other things. -Toggle Weapons is remapped to RMB because it's another way I can leave my WASD fingers in place and and easily get back into cockpit view without pressing "C" if I'm in the heat of a dogfight or wild turn. -Countermeasures are remapped to space bar so, you guessed it, I can mash my thumb without moving off WASD. -From a suggestion here I've since remapped a spare mouse button to "Pitch Up" so that I can hold it if I run out of desk space on a long turn with the mouse (rare now that I use the entire desk and no pad). Not an elegant solution but it works well.

General Info If you are looking for excitement, challenge, and a chance to teach others, then SERE Specialist may be the right career for you. Our mission is to prepare aircrew and high risk of capture DOD personnel to survive under any conditions. SERE Specialists train over 6500 aircrew members a year in the proper use of principles, techniques, equipment, and procedures necessary to survive anywhere in the world. As a SERE Specialist you will become an expert on the methods used to survive in the arctic, desert, open ocean, jungle, mountain regions, in-combat and captivity situations. Through training, you will learn the skills necessary to pass your knowledge on to others. SERE Specialists can "talk the talk" because they have "walked the walk. Additionally, because of the intense instructional program, you are authorized to wear the SERE Beret, SERE Specialist Arch, and the AETC Instructor badge upon completion of Tech school. After completion of the SERE Indoctrination Course at Lackland AFB TX, all approved applicants are assigned to Fairchild AFB, Washington where your training will take place. Before starting technical training you will complete the Combat SERE Training course and the Water Survival, Non-Parachuting course. The Combat SERE Training course is a 17 day course that includes eleven days of academic, laboratory, and field training over survival and evasion techniques followed by six days of academic and laboratory training on surviving captivity.
