Costa Rica Expat Interviews NOT Paradise

TONS of Costa Rica Travel INFO & VIDEOS at TravelCostaRicaNow.com Hey Everyone! Interviewing William was like a breath of fresh air. Not one to pull any punches or gloss anything over, William calls it as he sees it. This is a nice change for me, since many people I speak with tend to push Costa Rica off as a paradise with no real faults. How he came to live in Costa Rica is interesting and William also offers some good perspective and advice for others who are thinking about relocating. If you're considering making the move to Costa Rica, then you definitely don't want to miss this interview with William. ENjoY!

Israel expat campaign angers Jewish-Americans

In the US, Jewish-Americans have been expressing outrage about an Israeli campaign urging them to return to their homeland. Israel's ministry of immigration created the advertisements to call on half a million Israeli-Americans to come back. The outcry is being taken seriously by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who has pulled the controversial campaign. Al Jazeera's Tom Ackerman reports from Washington.

The Expat Explorer Survey

This video animates the key findings from www.expatexplorer.hsbc.com - the world's largest survey of expats. 4000 expats answered questions relating to their finances, quality of life, and even what it's like to raise children abroad. If you moved abroad, what would you want to know? Transcript Every year, millions of people move abroad to boost their earning potential or to find a better way of life. In two-thousand-and-ten, Russia was home to the world's wealthiest expats, followed closely by the Middle East. In fact, in Bahrain expats found they had significantly more disposable income than before they moved. For some people, earning more isn't as important as the opportunity for new experiences; Qatar is the number one country in the world for making friends with other expats, but in Canada expats are more likely to integrate, spending as much time with local friends as other expats. For parents, a key consideration is the health and wellbeing of their children. Over ninety percent of expat parents in Hong-Kong felt their children's safety had improved, and in Australia children were likely to attend local schools and spend more time outdoors. When thinking about retirement, expats found the best place for good food, healthcare and a better quality of life was Thailand. Over two-hundred-million people worldwide have decided to start a new life overseas. If you moved abroad, what would you want to know? Although at first glances, the city may not appear to be too child friendly, however when you dig a bit deeper there is a surprising range of activities to keep your little ones smiling. Including horse riding, self defense classes and roller skate parks. Another advantage of Moscow is its wide expanse of parks and forests on the out skirts of the city. Living in Shanghai: Expat View on Shopping

Shanghai is a shopping paradise. Most international brands have stores in Shanghai and the only challenge is to choose between all the options. There are 3 grocery stores that cater to western needs. Also the organic food section is a rising trend in Shanghai amoung expatriates. Most international clothing stores have their flag stores here and offer the fashion items they also offer in other countries. Pay attention to the sizes, Chinese people are usually more petit in contrast to western people, hence most stores do not usually stack bigger sizes. Another item difficult to find for men and women are shoes in their sizes. Most expatriates prefer to buy their shoes at home or in other countries. As an alternative one can have their shoes made at one of the many shoe tailors in Shanghai. Be aware that luxury goods are usually more expensive due to import taxes. Living in Prague: Expat View on Medical Services

Medical care in Prague has changed dramatically since 1989, when Czechoslovakia became an open state. There are many private health centers that tend to serve the expatriate community working to international and western standards. It is viable to use the national health service, however it is not always guaranteed that the medical professional will speak English, therefore most people opt for private care. Prague's main hospital has an international ward specifically for expatriates, which can assist with emergencies and a range of other medical concerns. La Danza de las Tijeras (Expat Peru www.expatperu.com)

www.expatperu.com The scissor dance is a spectacular manifestation of art and physical dexeriy. However, for the native Andean communities of Peru, it serves also as a complex and mysterious ritual. The main instrument accompanyng the dance is a pair of scissors, made up of two independent metal rods, each around 25 cm long. The dancers, (danzaq), put their flexibility to the test with a series of gymnastic leaps in time to the strains of the harp and violin. In colonial times, Clerics claimed these dancers had made a pact with the Devil because of the amazing feats they performed. These include, sword-swallowing, sticking pins through their facial skin and eating insects, toads and snakes.

World's Richest Expats Live in Russia. Half reporting income of $200000 per year or more.

Forget the American dream. If you want to make money in a foreign country, the place to go is Russia, which a new survey found to be home to the "wealthiest expats in the world." A third of all expats in Russia — the highest proportion in the world — make more than $250000 per year, with almost half reporting an income of $200000 per year or more, according to a survey commissioned by HSBC Bank International. "There is a massive lack of competition here in Russia in nearly every sector," said Luc Jones, a partner at the Antal recruiting agency. "Back home, it's much harder to differentiate yourself, while here you can stand out." High salaries could also be a consequence of the market rather than one's status as a foreigner. There is little difference in compensation between expat and Russian executives, Jones said. And while the crisis might have thinned the ranks, executives will command high salaries regardless of the economic picture, he said. "If somebody's doing a good job, they will still be here on the same package, bottom line," Jones said. The survey, examined the financial circumstances of 3100 expats living in 26 different countries. It based its rankings on a series of interrelated factors, such as annual income, disposable income, savings and money spent on luxuries. By any standard — and especially given the crisis-fraught times — Russia's expats live well, the survey said. Almost 60 percent say they have $4000 or more every month in disposable income, the ...

Living in Budapest: Expat View on Medical Services

Health care choices in Hungary vary widely. You could find yourself standing in line at an inexpensive state-run clinic, or walking in to a new, Western-style (and more pricey) examining room. Your decision typically depends on what kind of insurance you have. Most Western expats use private insurance and Western-style private clinics where you will pay more than in the state system but receive the type of service that is more familiar. On the one hand, it can be beneficial to pay into the national health care system here, due to the access to tremendously discounted prescription medications. However, going through the state may leave one struggling to find a doctor who speaks their language. This makes private clinics the preferred health care choice for expats here in Hungary. Living in Riyadh: Expat View on Shopping

There's a time for bejeweled daggers and bangles, and then there's the rest of life. A primary destination for anyone touching down in Riyadh is the souk, or market. All sorts of luxury goods, spices and kitsch are ready to be haggled over here, but in reality, expats who relocate to Saudi Arabia's capital spend far more time roaming the polished, climate-controlled expanses of modern malls than negotiating the winding aisles of a souk. And when it comes to malls, there's plenty to pick from. High-end everything is on sale in Riyadh. (In fact, anyone with understated tastes might have to dig deep, as bling can seem to be perennially in style.) Al Faisaliyah and Mamlaka shopping centers are located downtown, with the latter notably home to an entire ladies-only floor. Malls aren't just for shopping, though. Wandering the generous spaces of the Hayat or the vast Sahara complex provide a much-needed distraction during the withering summer months. There are restaurants, kiddie playlands, and plenty of parking. Large-scale grocery outlets are also included in the mall deal. Patrons can purchase most of their favorites from back home at stores like Tamimi (which stocks Safeway goods), Carrefour or Hyperpanda. Those looking for home furnishings turn toward the Saco mall, or to the familiar décor found at IKEA. In other words, Riyadh's shopping world is full-up, leaving the retail-crazed spoiled for choice.
