My first attempt at a fountain. Not hard to do, just chemicals in a tube but certainly turned out better than my first rocket! This is a mixture of unmilled black powder, ferro titanium and a dash of magnalium. Boring but a nice effect. Must admit I do prefer things which go bang.
A waterfall composition Im working on that the flame is a bright gold color so I may be able to make stars but the main purpose is that can be used in gerbs fountains and drivers. The first composition used coarse aluminum as the black body radiator the second used fine ferro-titanium, the last used the aluminum version first then the ferro-titanium packed in a homemade gerb.

Some less than perfect willow diadem stars. Two 6" willow diadem shells im building for memorial day will feature these. The round stars are some what spikey as you can see, lampblack and pine really suck when it comes to rolling large stars "they need a large amount of alcohol about 50%" As for effects these stars are composed of willow diadem to a bright green finish.

A interesting combo, Started with BP as a base, then added corse Magnisium, FerroTitanium, Sparkler grade steel powder, 325mesh SA Aluminium. bound with NC, solvent was Acetone.
This is a good example of why you should always make sure your stars are compltely dry. I made this mistake and only 1 very dry star actually launches, the others just fail in the tube, still a nice effect though. This is a mix of stars. The one that launches is a simple BP star, the first and second are BP laces with Magnelium, second from last is BP laced with Ferro Titanium and the last is a Winokur #20 star composition. The next one I make I'll be using completely dry stars. =D

Dave Prosch, instructor at the ARS School of Survival, tests the firemaking properties of the prototype ARS Urban Survival Kit. This video was shot at the ARS School in Gallant, Alabama. Here, Dave makes a fire using a prototype Titanium Dog Tag Knife, an alcohol prep pad, a ferro rod and some dried grass and kindling. We weren't real happy with the outcome of this test. It took too many strikes to get the fire started even though we were working under near optimal conditions. After showing how he forged a titanium sword on YouTube a lot of comments were received about this material and how it is forged and how it holds up. Hopefully this will clear up some of the myths of this material and allow people to have fun with it. Tal Harris adds: titanium will burn if you get the heat high enough. It especially likes to react with iron scale in a gas furnace at high temperatures. Putting water on burning titanium is not good. Baking soda is the preferred extinguisher. A class D fire extinguisher is a good thing to have around. When water is applied to a titanium fire, the reaction disassociates the hydrogen from the oxygen, thus making a bigger fire in an uncontrolled manner. The grinding dust will also burn. There are also quite a few alloys of titanium, some with phase changes at certain temperatures and some without. This can make a BIG difference on how the piece reacts to forging. Knowing what businesses there are in your area could give clues as to what alloy you are finding. Chemical processing equipment frequently uses CP or commercially pure titanium. Aerospace applications get into other alloys with 6-4 (6% aluminum-4% vanadium) being the most common. An awesome song that I had discovered that was made by Paul McCartney back in the day, based off of Marvel villains Magneto, Titanium man, and the Crimson Dynamo. Since 2/3rd of the villains are Iron Man villains, (also who doesn't want to see Magneto as a Iron Man villain!), I used Iron Man as the narrator and Madame Masque as the Robber. All the characters in the video are owned and distributed by Marvel ....and apparently now also owned by Disney lol! I don't have any copyright to them and is not intended for infringement, it is a fan made video.
