Team Fish Sniffer visited Don Pedro Reservoir on September 23 and we had a great time targeting holdover rainbows with Monte Smith of Gold Country Sportfishing. We caught all of our fish on Monte's homemade Chucker T spoons! Monte's spoons aren't for sale, but a Speedy Shiner is a good substitute.

Fishing for rainbow trout is great at Don Pedro Reservoir during the winter. In this video I team up with Monte Smith of Gold Country Sportfishing and Brooke Culverhouse of Fish Sniffer for an exciting day of high speed trout trolling in late December. We caught a bunch of trout and lost a bunch more. Monte wraps things up by talking about winter fishing tactics.

Cleaning and skinning trout with a pair of scissors. It's best to clean the trout shortly after catching. The technique is the same for salmon. I've tried this method for bass, shad, and panfish (brim), but have found that this method works best for trout. These trout were caught at Boca Reservoir near Truckee, CA on 12/06/08. There were 7 of us that caught the fish. We did a lot of catch and release and kept 15 between us all.

Folsom Lake offers great trout fishing for rainbow trout during the cold water months. On December 11, my wife Gena and I along with our close friends Jim and Mary Ann English trolled Folsom from Jim's Fishrite boat. We caught a bunch of handsome rainbows. The fish were a mix of planters and holdovers. We had a great day fishing the lake. Folsom offers excellent fishing for quality fish, but it is one of those lakes that can be very difficult at times.

This big lingcod grabbed a hooked rockfish during a Cal Kellogg School of Fishing trip aboard the Happy Hooker. We were fishing along the coast a few miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Lingcod are just like pit bulls, when they lock onto something, they don't like to let go!
