Shafilea Ahmed born in 1986, was a British teenager from Great Sankey,Warrington (a large town near the Mersey Estuary) who was murdered in late 2003. A student who wanted to become a lawyer, during a trip to Pakistan in 2003 she swallowed bleach in what was later reported as a suicide attempt although her father claimed that it was during a power cut and she drank it thinking it was a bottle of fruit juice. According to a wide range of media reports after her disappearance, Shafilea turned down a suitor in an arranged marriage during the trip, her parents though denied any attempts to pressure her into agreeing to the marriage. "Police then learned that shortly before her disappearance Shafilea had travelled to Pakistan where she rejected an arranged marriage partner and had swallowed bleach badly scarring her throat - an injury which required constant medical attention when she returned home." Shafilea disappeared on September 11, 2003 and had been missing for a week before her teachers informed the police; subsequently there was a major campaign to urge people who had any information to come forward. Actress Shobna Gulati was persuaded to front the media campaign, and read some of her poems on television. "A nationwide hunt was launched but when Shafilea failed to seek treatment for her damaged throat detectives became convinced she had been murdered - possibly in an "honour killing" connected with her rejection of her Pakistant suitor." Shot here in New York on a shoestring budget, with a small cast of unfamiliar faces, this thoughtful, unpretentious and creatively turned little drama (co-written with James Vlamos) describes the local vendetta of a young Greek sailor who jumps ship and finds shelter with a Greek-American family and a compassionate girl. Presented by Era KM Films (the new partners), it opened on Saturday at the Cameo, and thereby hangs a curious tale. Ready for release two years ago, the English-language project was thumbed-down locally without a Greek sound track—a long painstaking dubbing process. In both languages, two identical versions are now alternating at the Cameo, providing a unique sampling for lingering customers. Even in Hindustani, the picture would owe no apologies. Fishing Industry in Sicily - www.sensationalsicily.com Medieval Fishing off Sicily - The most important fishing industry of the medieval Mediterranean was, arguably, in Sicily, and even there fish played a modest albeit constant role in the food of the island. There were two kinds of fish caught in the fifteenth century, the so-called blue fish, mostly sardines and anchovies that had some limited economic importance in Sicily's export trade, and the white fish, such as John Dory, turbot, sea bass, grouper, comber, etc., which were secondary in economic importance. However, fish had no overall importance in either the diet or the economy of medieval Sicily and the total number of fishermen was few. But the fasting prescriptions of the church assured that fish would always be in demand. In data for the vice-regent from 1415 we see that fresh and dried fish were bought ten days out of the month. On Friday and Saturday, fresh fish, eel, salted little tuna, and eggs were eaten instead of meat. Messina, Cefalù, Termini, Trapani, and Palermo were the five fishing centers of Sicily in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, all fishing sardines for the most part. Fish were in seasonal demand and especially during Lent, when church-mandated fasting requirements limited the amount of meat that could be eaten. Marriage is often the culmination of a perfect romance. Abhay (Fardeen Khan) and Ritika (Esha Deol) begin their journey as husband and wife on their 5 day honeymoon. Along the way they chance upon several people some couples, some individuals, some believers in the institution of marriage and the romance of togetherness, some non- believers. Abhay and Ritika have never held hands, never walked together in the rain, never romanced each other and yet, as per ritual, they have to spend 5 days together in one room, with one bed, as husband and wife, in a situation where they are expected to love each other and become lovers. The Twilight Samurai or Tasogare Seibei (たそがれ清兵衛?, literally "Twilight Seibei") is a 2002 Japanese film directed by Yoji Yamada. Set in mid-19th century Japan, a few years before the Meiji Restoration, it follows the life of Seibei Iguchi, a low-ranking samurai employed as a bureaucrat. Poor, but not destitute, he still manages to lead a content and happy life with his daughters and senile mother. Through an unfortunate turn of events, the turbulent times conspire against him.

This famous folk play was written by Vasant Sabnis and especially for Dada Kondke, the famous Marathi actor. It was designed for urban viewers while keeping the rural punches intact. The play follows the format of a Tamasha. The story is that of a king and his scheming prime minister. Following the death of the administrative head - the kotwal, the Prime Minister promptly fills the coveted post with his inept and undeserving brother-in-law. As per the hierarchy, the present Havaldar ought to have been promoted to that post. The wronged Havaldar along with his sweetheart Mainavati plan to frame the new Kotwal. Mainavati works her charms on the Kotwal and then beseeches him to fulfill her numerous wishes (hence the name, Vichha Majhi Poori Kara). She orders him to bring her the king's ring, chain and finally the king's four-poster bed (chhapri palang) - which he does. The play brings out the political undercurrents of nepotism. Its slapstick comedy and wit has had a lasting appeal. Vijay Kadam fame essays the role of Havaldar, which shot Dada Kondke into the limelight. Medha Ghadge is a skilled dancer and plays the role of Mainavati. Vaibhav Mangle plays the kotwal.
