Doom - E1M1 on eight floppy drives

I actually hit the limit of my Arduino with this song. I had intended to have the other seven drives play the really fast parts as well, but the Arduino had trouble switching pin states for all the pins necessary so fast. So instead I just got like five notes out of something thats supposed to play thirty. I don't think it was because it couldn't switch pin states fast enough because I improved the number of cycles it takes to do that, but rather because the loop used to do so isn't effecient enough to keep up with that many operations. Going to have to take a look at the Arduino code sometime. Hope you guys enjoy this! ________________________________________________________ Enjoyed this? You know you did. While I am intimately familiar with it and tried to accomplish the same thing on my own, I found this solution instead and used it! The awesome person who made is named Sammy1Am and if you have not seen his stuff you must go to his channel. Right now! I made this point very clear in past videos but many people are landing here first and have not seen the others! Thank you for watching! AWWWWWWWWWWW YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! 'Nuff said. If you like this then PLEASE like, comment on, favorite, and above all, SHARE my video! It lets me know you care =D This was made possible thanks to midimachine on newgrounds! Check out his page at: midimachine.newgrounds.com He's got a bunch of awesome stuff on there. Enjoy this video? Check out the rest of them through this playlist: www.youtube.com After discovering some things, I found a better way of recording my stuff and thus give you two versions. A word of forewarning though, not everything works well on floppy drives (they're pretty finicky as far as musical instruments go), so while I will consider every one of your suggestions, not all of them end up making good music. Floppy Drive Reverb. Recording Analog Audio on Floppy Disks

Jeri Ellsworth describes how she attached a floppy drive to a tape deck recorded and then played back audio. A simple circuit stepped the head automatically using the spindle index pulse. A push button was used to control the direction. The drive head wrote to more than one track at a time, causing an interesting reverb effect. ***Erasing the disk with rare earth magnets while spinning in the drive was not mentioned in the video.

Download Audio: vibedeck.com I've been extremely busy the last month or so. First my computer died on me, then finals, then work, and on top of that most of my family moved away to India. So sorry for the delay in videos. I'm still preoccupied, but I hope to be able to start putting videos up again. This was highly requested from long ago so I hope you guys enjoy it. I've really thought about how I record my audio and what has sounded good over the past videos. I combined those elements as best I could. I don't have two microphones of equal quality, so I recorded the left four and right four drives separately and pushed the audio to their respective side. I then recorded all eight and put it through a low pass filter and a small bass boost. I think the resulting mix of the three tracks sounds the best. It takes a lot more time to record and edit, but I thought it was worth it. Let me know what you think. Oh and I also started a FaceBook page. Haven't really built it out yet, but I'll get to it. ________________________________________________________ Enjoyed this? You know you did. Zelda Collection on eight floppy drives

I actually had all of these way long ago, but stuff happened. First I moved from a 5 drive setup to an 8 drive, so I had to redo all the songs. Then I got really busy with real life stuff. When I got a little more free time I did record the new version, but then FailBlog bought my other video. That led me to buying a new mic and camera which got rid of the huge desync issue I was having. Oh and then I started a new job so there was all the training and other random things. Throw in some school stuff for a finishing touch and you'll come to understand why it took me about 2 months to get these recorded. Phantom of the Floppera

Visit georgewhiteside.net for more information! Test run of my (d)iskette (O)rgan doing Toccata & Fugue. People have made floppy drives sing before, but this is my personal take on it. Features two 3 1/2" drives and two 5 1/4" drives connected to a PIC18f14k50 microcontroller. It interfaces to any MIDI source via MIDI over USB. Straight MIDI would also be possible with an additional small circuit and some minor firmware changes. This initial version can respond to all 128 MIDI notes, and pitch bends +/- 2 semitones. As it can produce only four simultaneous notes, and each drive has a different range and tonal characteristics, best results are obtained by arranging compositions by hand. However, it features two modes of operation: in one mode, MIDI channels 1 through 4 are played directly on floppy drives 1 through 4. In the other mode, all 16 MIDI channels are read, and notes are "intelligently" divvied out on a first-come, first-serve basis. "Note stealing" ensures that melody lines sound, but chords are often cut short. One or the other produces acceptable results for many unmodified MIDI files straight out of your favorite media player. I apologize for the poor video quality. :) *** Update Feb. 10, 2011: Wow, I just want to give a HUGE thank-you to every one of you for the overwhelmingly positive response! It truly means a lot to me. I'm reading all your comments, and I've been answering individual questions--but due to popular demand, I will be posting a web site with ...

www.twitter.com Watch Floppy Disk LIVE on TheStream.tv on the 30th! www.tobyturner.com Based on a true floppy. I don't like cleaning but my momma makes me anyway. She said, "I'm sick of this crap, boy you gonna clean the house today." She said, "I'ma go to the store and when I come home it betta be done." I said, "No problem, ma, I'ma pick my shit up one by one." When she walked out the door I started cleanin' like she said. The only problem is I am easily distracted. I started cleaning shit 'til something shiny caught my eye... it was a plastic square with dimensions of 3.5. There's a floppy disk on the floor, There's a floppy disk on the floor, Baw. There's a floppy disk on the floor, There's a floppy disk on the floor, Oww. There's a floppy disk on the floor, There's a floppy disk on the floor, Aow. There's a floppy disk on the floor, There's a floppy disk on the floor, Click. Next thing I knew, door flew right open, she came in with groceries. Oh no all I did was sing this song, maybe I have ADD. She pointed fervently at all the mess her eyes ablaze. But then she froze right there when something shiny caught her gaze. I'm sure it wasn't hard to see how little I had done. But then she looked at me and then we sang in unison. There's a floppy disk on the floor, There's a floppy disk on the floor, Baw. Kryoflux USB Floppy Disk Controller Overview - LGR

A demonstration and overview of the capabilities of the Kryoflux USB High Definition Flux Sampler. Many thanks to LunaVorax for sending me this! The Kryoflux is a board that connects old floppy drives to newer computers via USB. It allows for low-level reading of disks to RAW data and floppy images. This not only preserves games and software so they can be enjoyed through emulation, but also preserves them in such a way that their "original" form is kept around even when the disk has finally died. Sexy stuff, right? For more info/to buy the Kryoflux: www.kryoflux.com Also check out the SPS YouTube channel: www.youtube.com

Sony Mavica floppy disk digital camera

Before flash memory and USB ports existed, digital cameras stored their images on an internal 3½-inch floppy disk drive. Yes, a floppy disk camera! This Sony MVC-FD7 camera was introduced in late 1997, and is designed much like Sony's camcorders of the time -- it even uses the same battery. With 10X optical zoom and autofocus, the quality of the optics is very good, but in order to fit about 20 photos on one 1.44 MB floppy disk, the image files are compressed to such an extent that they always turn out fuzzy and grainy -- but no worse than any other digital camera from the '90s.

Battlefield 1942 Remake

Here's a remake of my previous video with five drives playing. It sounds MUCH better in my opinion! So I was messing around with different setups and I realized that my crappy mic was picking up a lot of extra noise through the table. And thats where a lot of distortion came from so after propping the mic up on a box I found the recording to be much more clear and thus needing a lot less editing! Yay! I get the same questions a lot in my videos, so I'm going to write up a little FAQ and put it on my channel somewhere. Don't worry, I won't make it hard to find.
