The FNP9 has proven itself as a superb shooter in our shooting tests. As previously noted in my three-part review series, it possesses outstanding ergonomics, incredible lightweight (24.6 oz!), kindergarten-simple field strip, high accuracy and reliability, adequate firepower (16 rds), Sig-like dedicated decocker (ambi mounted), hammer-forged barrel, good sights, good trigger, bobbed hammer, 1911 grip angle, three included magazines (great job FN!) and all at a very reasonable price. This guns looks were improved by my application of "Tactical DARK Earth" DuraCoat to the frame after careful preparation (all mag baseplates also prepped and coated for a finished look). Also the ambi decocker was milled off for right handed use to produce a slimmer slide profile. These mods, with the SS slide left in black, produce a cool and useful tactical look. In the initial review, all my data points at the time indicated the FNP9 to be an accurate, reliable shooter and indeed it has been. Accuracy out to 15 yds from the handheld standing position showed a tight clustering and I believe on hole groups at yards are easily achieved. Though not tested, 2-3" groups at 25 yds should also be achievable. The thin barrel has not been proven a detriment and I now feel the slide height is conducive to fast shooting. While still a very high value gun, expect to pay about $40 for each additional magazine you may want. Also decocker actuation does produce an irritating snap (due to the polymer frame <b>...</b>

Here is my owner's report / review of the FNP 9. I really like it and enjoy shooting it. It's a nice looking pistol, with great features at a competitive price. While the FNP-9 is not the best in every catagory, it is very competitive in all areas - like weight and magazine capacity. It has nice polymer frame with good controls, takes down easy, and has been reliable at the range. These features mean it'll be a pistol that you will enjoy owning and shooting for years. It has moderate recoil, high quality parts, and a hardcase with three 16 round magazines that means this pistol offers a lot features that make it very appealling. FNH has also included large metal rails for the slide, plus a nice barrel - features that aren't easy to see, but you'll notice the longer you own the gun. They are DA / SA or there is a DA only model option for the owner. Plus other finishes for you to pick from. Take a look at it and I think you"ll find it's a fine handgun. Don't rush out and buy another gun before you check out he FNP9!! Make sure you give it a chance too - you'll be glad you did..

This video should help you see how to change the follower in the FNP 9 9mm magazine. It's pretty easy, takes just a few minutes and no special tools are required. I have enjoyed shooting this pistol, but had a few times where the slide wouldn't lock back when I cleaned it. I had to push up on the slide release to lock it back. FN Herstal sent me new followers and I installed them in all three magazines and it fixed the problem. The new ones are a revised design that is slightly higher in one section and this area is what pushes up the slide release and locks the slide back. If you have had a similar issue with yours, try this fix...it's pretty easy!

Just some range time using both guns back to back. I was using Winchester 115 gr 9mm ball ammunition for both. The Glock holds 12 rds and the FNP-9 holds 16, so a 100 round box box goes by pretty quickly! Hope you enjoy watching.

Here is my FN Herstal FNP 9 at the range. It's a standard matte stainless model, that holds 16 rounds. I really like it - it handles well and it's lot of fun to shoot. It has a nice feel, with a mild recoil. It's pretty light for a full size pistol at 26 oz, so you could carry it without really noticing it. I think it offers a lot of nice features, plus it's a good value for the money - give it a try! I shot this gun along with my Glock 26 9mm, and I would give the FN a slight edge. The FNP is a little larger so it seems to feel better to me, has a lighter recoil and thus I'm more accurate with it. I'll do an "Owner's Report" on thie FNP-9 in the future. Marc shooting. Shore Shot is a great place to shoot in NJ. Shooting FNP-9 with dirty S&B ammo. FNP-9 is brand new and being shot for the first time. No failures- no problem with cases ejecting straight back.

Had some ammo left over so I loaded all of them up with a few rounds each. In order - Glock 26, FN Herstal FNP-9, FNP-45, and last is the Glock 17. The Glock 26, 17 and the FNP-9 are all 9mm, with the FNP-45 in 45 ACP. This was a way to compare the performance, handling & recoil of each pistol back to back. Not a shooting lesson...I did it just for fun. This was the last shooting after being at the range for 2.5 hours!
