www.strengthspeedagility.com Soft tissue work can not only be used to help injured athletes in their recovery but should also be a daily routine for anyone that wants to improve how they move and how feel. At the elite level of sport there is always or should always be a good manual therapist available to athletes. However, massage everyday massage becomes extremely expensive if it is kept up for any length of time and may not be feasible for everyday gym-goers, youth athletes or aspiring sports people that are not earning the big bucks yet. The solution to this problem is self massage and one of the best ways to do this is through foam rolling. So you could say that foam rollers are the poor mans massage therapist.

Discover Mark Reifkind's prized secrets for rebounding from injury and kicking some athletic butt Discover New, Proven Ways to Rebound from Old Injuries—And Perform to the Level You Desire... A series of brutal injuries ended Mark Reifkind's Olympic hopes in gymnastics, in champion powerlifting, in ultra-marathons and in Ironman triathlons. A resurgent Mark battled back to become one of the premier kettlebell trainers in the US. No one has delved more deeply than Mark into what it takes to beat pain at its own game—and remain resiliently functional in the face of the most egregious challenges. Having heard of Mark's success at restoring his lost physical functioning, we begged him to share his personal discoveries and methods with our elite RKC kettlebell trainers at the recent RKC II certification workshop. Mark's secrets for restoring physical function would clearly be of immense value to our RKCs, for themselves, but more importantly for their clients. And Mark did not disappoint! In a brilliant, inspiring, impassioned, fascinating, highly practical and, yes, "painful" seminar, Mark blew the assembled RKCs away with his methods for understanding, pinpointing and then releasing blocks in the body. I am so glad we got it all on tape! No way would anyone be able to remember one-tenth of all the methods Mark shared with us in those two hours! Now, you too can benefit from this treasure trove of methods to keep you and your clients in optimal condition. Contents include <b>...</b>

I will be demonstrating foam roller exercises in the video below. Many of my clients use the foam roller to get deep pressure on muscles that may need myofascial release. Myofascial release (or deep tissue work) method works on the restricted fascia. Practitioners use knuckles, elbows, or other tools to slowly stretch the restricted fascia by applying force. Direct myofascial release seeks for changes in the myofascial structures by stretching, elongation of fascia, or mobilising adhesive tissues. The practitioner moves slowly through the layers of the fascia until the deep tissues are reached.

Decided to make my own foam roller today since I am to impatient to order one online. Turned out great! I spent about 395Nkr ($70.50) for the material, made two rollers and have enough foam and ductape for at least 6 more rollers! I will make a blog post and a video about how and why you can/should use a foam roller sometime soon. FULL GUIDE FREE DOWNLOAD: www.synergy-athletics.com Foam rolling may just be the most popular form of self massage for strength trainers...but it is not without controversy. Read on for this guide to foam rolling and the current debate. Foam rolling utilizes a technique called Self-myofascial release (SMR). Muscles contain a proprioceptor called the Golgi Tendon Organ. The GTO is responsible for saving us from a lot of injuries. When a muscle is activated to the point of near injury, the GTO reflex sends a message to shut the muscle down. Golgi-tendon-organ Before I break it down, I will throw a little more alphabet soup at you - this is called autogenic inhibition. The Golgi tendon is basically providing the body feedback on muscle tension. Autogenic inhibition is a safety measure to shut muscles down before they provide more force than bones and tendons can handle. Without getting too complicated, the pressure created by the foam rolling stimulates the GTO and causes the muscle to relax. The brief relaxation will allow for an increased range of motion (ROM) and improve tissue quality (Its important to not only have strong muscles, but also flexible - especially for athletes and anyone that wants to feel better from lifting)(1) Reduction in soft tissue tension will help restore the muscle's length-tension relationship. Self-Myofascial Release Techniques Would you believe that your client's function could be improved for less than $20? Sound too good to be true? By performing Self-Myofascial Release techniques on a simple piece of foam, your clients can improve flexibility, function, performance, and reduce injuries. In a nutshell, your clients use their own body weight to roll on the round foam roll, massaging away restrictions to normal soft-tissue extensibility. And your clients can perform this program at home, maximizing their recovery time. KINETIC CHAIN CONCEPTS For the health and fitness professional to understand how this "magical" foam roll does all that, a basic understanding of the kinetic chain must be acknowledged. The kinetic chain is made up of the soft tissue system (muscle, tendon, ligament, and fascia), neural system (nerves and CNS), and articular system (joints)6. The kinetic chain works as an integrated functional unit. All components of the kinetic chain exist interdependently. If one segment is not functioning efficiently, then the other components must compensate, leading to tissue overload, fatigue, faulty movement patterns, and finally initiates the Cumulative Injury Cycle3,5,10,12. For example, muscle tightness restricts the range of motion that a joint may be moved. Because of muscle restriction (tightness, soft tissue adhesions, and neural-hyperactivity), joint motion is altered, thus changing normal neural feedback to the CNS (central nervous system <b>...</b>
