To The Morning ~ Dan Fogelberg [ CC ]

"I wrote this (in the summer of 1970) when I was 18 years old. This was the first song that made me think I might actually make a living as a songwriter. I still find it a special piece to perform." (Dan Fogelberg) "To The Morning" the first song on Dan Fogelbergs first album "Home Free" (released 1972), began with strings, sustaining a hauntingly beautiful chord which faded into the song "To The Morning"; a song of hope invoking the day with the lyric, "There is really nothing left to say but 'come on, morning.'" "Birds", the last song on "Love In Time" , his last studio album (released 2009), ends with the lyric, "It's over," and a similar sustained chord, fading to end the album. Long time fans, upon hearing the final chord of "Birds", have said they expected to hear "To The Morning" begin to play. And so the ending meets the beginning, "In a spiral never-ending". To all loyal Danfan, lets hear it from Dan one more time, because It's not over, it continue "To The Morning", where the ending meets the beginning, it's a Full Circle in a spiral never ever ending, let it shine, ever on.... To The Morning (Lyrics) Watching the sun...watching it come Watching it come up over the rooftops Cloudy and warm...maybe a storm You can never quite tell from the morning (Chorus) And it's going to be a day There is really no way to say no to the morning Yes it's going to be a day There is really nothing left to say but come on morning Waiting for mail Maybe a tale from an old friend or ...

Dan Fogelberg - Leader of the band "with lyrics"

Lyrics : An only child Alone and wild A cabinet maker's son His hands were meant For different work And his heart was known To none -- He left his home And went his lone And solitary way And he gave to me A gift I know I never Can repay A quiet man of music Denied a simpler fate He tried to be a soldier once But his music wouldn't wait He earned his love Through discipline A thundering, velvet hand His gentle means of sculpting souls Took me years to understand. The leader of the band is tired And his eyes are growing old But his blood runs through My instrument And his song is in my soul -- My life has been a poor attempt To imitate the man I'm just a living legacy To the leader of the band. My brothers' lives were Different For they heard another call One went to chicago And the other to st. paul And I'm in colorado When I'm not in some hotel Living out this life I've chose And come to know so well. I thank you for the music And your stories of the road I thank you for the freedom When it came my time to go -- I thank you for the kindness And the times when you got tough And, pap, I don't think i Said 'i love you' near enough -- The leader of the band is tired And his eyes are growing old But his blood runs through My instrument And his song is in my soul -- My life has been a poor attempt To imitate the man I'm just a living legacy To the leader of the band I am the living legacy To the leader of the band.
Same Old Lang Syne ~ Dan Fogelberg

Fan tribute to great artist,Musician, singer, songwritter, andsong. LYRICS: Met my old lover in the grocery store The snow was falling Christmas Eve I stole behind her in the frozen foods And I touched her on the sleeve She didn't recognize the face at first But then her eyes flew open wide She went to hug me and she spilled her purse And we laughed until we cried. We took her groceries to the checkout stand The food was totalled up and bagged We stood there lost in our embarrassment As the conversation dragged. We went to have ourselves a drink or two But couldn't find an open bar We bought a six-pack at the liquor store And we drank it in her car. We drank a toast to innocence We drank a toast to now And tried to reach beyond the emptiness But neither one knew how. She said she'd married her an architect Who kept her warm and safe and dry She would have liked to say she loved the man But she didn't like to lie. I said the years had been a friend to her And that her eyes were still as blue But in those eyes I wasn't sure if I saw Doubt or gratitude. She said she saw me in the record stores And that I must be doing well I said the audience was heavenly But the traveling was hell. We drank a toast to innocence We drank a toast to now And tried to reach beyond the emptiness But neither one knew how. We drank a toast to innocence We drank a toast to time Reliving in our eloquence Another 'auld lang syne'... The beer was empty and our tongues were tired And running out of things ...

Dan Fogelberg - Part of the plan

I have these moments, all steady and strong I'm feeling so holy and humble The next thing I know, I'm all worried and weak And I feel myself starting to crumble The meanings get lost and the teachings get tossed And you don't know what you're going to do next You wait for the sun but it never quite comes Some kind of message comes through to you Some kind of message comes through And it says to you Love when you can Cry when you have to Be who you must that's a part of the plan Await your arrival With simple survival And one day we'll all understand One day we'll all understand One day we'll all understand I had a woman, who gave me her soul But I wasn't ready to take it Her heart was so fragile and heavy to hold And I was afraid I might break it Your conscience awakes and you see your mistakes And you wish someone would buy your confessions The days miss their mark and the night gets so dark And some kind of message comes through to you Some kind of message shoots through And it says to you Love when you can Cry when you have to Be who you must that's a part of the plan Await your arrival With simple survival And one day we'll all understand One day we'll all understand One day we'll all understand There is no Eden or heavenly gates That you're gonna make it to one day But all of the answers you seek can be found In the dreams that you dream on the way Lyrics taken from www.elyrics.net

Souvenirs - Dan Fogelberg "Souvenirs" was written in California 1971 by greatest singer/songwriter Dan Fogelberg. It is the title song of "Souvenirs" album released 1974. Special thanks to River aka Mariaglenn in helping me capture the true feeling of Dan. We know Dan was going through a difficult time when he wrote this song. It's one of the most moving songs ever written, I have to do it very carefully. Credit given to those photographers/artists for their beautiful art work creation. I dedicate this beautiful poetry song to all DanFan for your passions with Dan, may his music everlasting in our hearts! Dan, we thank you so much for this timeless souvenir.... (Souvenirs Lyrics) Here is a poem that my lady sent down Some morning while I was away Wrote on the back of a leaf that she found Somewhere around Monterey And here is the key to a house far away Where I used to live as a child They tore down the building when I moved away And left the key unreconciled (Chorus) And down in the canyon the smoke starts to rise It rides on the wind 'til it reaches your eyes When faced with the past the strongest man cries...cries (Repeat Chorus) And here is a sunrise to set on your sill The ghosts of the dawn moving near They pass through your sorrow and leave you quite still... Sutter's Mill ~ Dan Fogelberg [ CC ]

"Movie time again. Strange how most of my Maine songs have been written in Colorado and some of my most western pieces (like this one) were written in Maine. I wrote this on my birthday, 1984. It's not completely historically accurate but I plead poetic license." (Dan Fogelberg) Sutter's Mill written by Singer/Songwriters Dan Fogelberg, from "High Country Snows" album (1985) also included in "Portrait - The Music of Dan Fogelberg" 4-CD Box Set, Disc 4. He always loved traditional country/folk/bluegrass music. After a visit to the legendary Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Dan was inspired to do an album of songs he had in him for a long time....the result is a great album that has captured the heart and soul of American country music. "Sutter's Mill" is one of the best songs on the album, the song tells the story (just like the old traditional songs used to) of young James Marshall & old John Sutter discovering gold in California in the 1847~1848 and beginning the infamous gold rush. The Sutter's Mill modern reconstruction is well kept in Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park @ Coloma California. Special thank Bobby for Dan's liner notes. Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Doc Watson, Jerry Douglas, David Grisman, Chris Hillman, and Herb Pedersen were among those who contributed to the record. In a world he defined as "life in the fast lane," Fogelberg described the music as "life in the off-ramp." It rank 23 on Top Country Albums Chart, and rank 30 on The Billboard 200 Chart. "It was written for a lady, probably in '85. It was a very brief, very romantic situation. The nature of that relationship felt to me like an old Gordon Lightfoot song like 'Softly She Comes.' Gordon wrote a lot of that stuff: great, mysterious, women would show up in the middle of the night and disappear. Lightfoot is one of my greatest influences. I admire his songwriting. I said 'I ought to write a song that sounds like Gordon Lightfoot.' Melodically and lyrically this is a tribute to Lightfoot." Dan Fogelberg (1951-2007) From the 1978 album, "Twin Sons Of Different Mothers." Lyrics: The story is told of the power of gold and its lure on the unsuspecting It glitters and shines, it badgers and blinds And constantly needs protecting Balance the cost of the soul you lost with the dreams you lightly sold Are you under...the power of gold The letters and calls got you climbing the walls And everyone wants a favor They beg to remind you of times left behind you But you know the past is a loser The face you're wearing is different now And the days run hot and cold Are you under...the power of gold You're a creature of habit, run like a rabbit Scared of a fear you can't name Your own paranoia is looming before you And nobody thinks that it's a game Balance the cost of the soul you lost With the dreams you lightly sold Then tell me that you're free of the power of gold The power of gold The women are lovely, the wine is superb But there's something about the song that disturbs you The women are lovely, the wine is superb But there's something about the song that disturbs you The women are lovely, the wine is superb But there's something about the song that disturbs you

www.coloradream.com • Written by The Cascades band member John Claude Gummoe in 1962. Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain Telling me just what a fool I've been I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain And let me be alone again The only girl I've ever loved has gone away Looking for a brand new start But little does she know That when she left that day Along with her she took my heart Rain please tell me now does that seem fair For her to steal my heart away when she don't care I can't love another when my hearts somewhere far away The only girl I care about has gone away Looking for a brand new start But little does she know that when she left that day Along with her she took my heart Rain won't you tell her that I love her so Please ask the sun to set her heart aglow Rain in her heart and let the love we knew start to grow Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain Telling me just what a fool I've been I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain And let me be alone again Oh, listen to the falling rain Pitter pater, pitter pater Oh, oh, oh, listen to the falling rain

Dan Fogelberg - Same Old Lang Syne (Lyrics)

"Same Old Lang Syne" is a song sung by Dan Fogelberg released as a single in 1980. It was also included on his 1981 album The Innocent Age. The song is a narrative ballad told in the first person and tells the story of two long-ago lovers meeting by chance in a supermarket on Christmas Eve. The melody phrase at the beginning of each verse is taken by Fogelberg from Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. During its debut, the song peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and is now frequently played during the holiday season and is integrated with traditional Christmas songs. en.wikipedia.org As Fogelberg tells it on his official website, the song is totally autobiographical. He was visiting family back home in Peoria, Illinois in the mid-'70s when he ran into an old girlfriend at a convenience store. After Fogelberg's death from prostate cancer in 2007, the woman who he wrote the song about came forward with her story. Her name is Jill Greulich, and she and Fogelberg dated in high school when she was Jill Anderson. As she explained to the Peoria Journal Star in a December 22, 2007 article, they were part of the Woodruff High School class of 1969, but went to different colleges. After college, Jill got married and moved to Chicago, and Dan went to Colorado to pursue music. On Christmas Eve, they were each back in Peoria with their families when Jill went out for egg nog and Dan was dispatched to find whipping cream for Irish coffee. The only place open was a convenience store at ...
Dan Fogelberg - Hard to Say

Lyrics: Lucky at love Well, maybe so There's still a lot of things you'll never know Like why each time the sky begins to snow You cry You're faithful to her In your careless way And so you miss her when she's far away But every time you think you've got it straight You fall You face the future with a weary past Those dreams you banked upon are fadin' fast You know you love her but it may not last You fear It's never easy And it's never clear Who's to navigate And who's to steer And so you flounder drifting ever Near the rocks It's hard to say where love went wrong It's hard to say just when (It's so hard to say) It's hard to walk away from love It may never come again You do your best to keep your hand in play And try to keep those lonesome blues at bay You think you're winning but it's Hard to say sometimes [Instrumental Interlude] It's hard to say where love went wrong It's hard to say just when (It's so hard to say) It's hard to walk away from love It may never come again Lucky at love Well, maybe so There's still a lot of things you'll never know Like why each time the sky begins to snow You cry You cry Whooooa, you still have to cry

Catching your fondest gazes Living through your fickle phases...I love you (Chorus) And it's getting easier each day to weep about you Harder every night to sleep without you How many years must I be driven by this dream of love with you Spend my dimes on phones trying just to talk But you don't answer...you let it ring Spend my nights alone Catching falling stars to give to you, love They're just for you For stars fall every time a lover has to face the truth And far too many stars have fell on me And as they trail the skies and burn their paths upon my eyes, I cry (Chorus) With you....with you

This is a special request by www.youtube.com Maria, thank you for your fan and friendship! Message to Dan Fans from Mariaglenn: ~It was the summer of 1973, a free concert at the auditorium had brought out a rather large crowd to see a new young talent, the Louisiana university had been abuzz with different ones asking if I was going to see Dan Fogelberg... The lights dimmed, applause filled the room, and a young man walked out on stage, with a rather shy look he said "Good Evening", sat down at the piano, and flipped his long hair behind his shoulders, taking a quick glance to the side, the soft opening refrains of "To The Morning" rose on the quiet air.....to me, it felt like the world went frozen, and the room seemed filled with a mystical air...this was not my normal reaction to a concert...and I felt other worldly. After thunderous applause, he quickly followed with another tune...my ears heard... "I was raised by a river, rolling past a town, given no direction, just told to keep my head down, and I took my position, a man fired a gun, I was so steeped in tradition, I could not run"..... and this is how a girl nicknamed River...born at the opposite end of a very long river, began her journey with a man who wrote the music of her life..... I never was able to explain to others, what happened for 34 years, the visions, the dreams, the unreal concerts, the whole mystic of it all, brought me to the conclusion, that Dan actually did walk, "The Spirit Trail"...his visits ...

Dan Fogelberg - Run for the Roses (D. Fogelberg) ~ Erwin Lazaro 115

When my mom was alive, I sang for hours and hours within her presence, until I moved out and established my own home and independence. She was my inspiration for learning how to sing. And, it's not that I was trying to learn, I just sang ... endlessly. The smile on her face was everything to me. She would spend most of her days in the kitchen, cooking up a wondrous storm, nourishing the lives of our family with so much love. She would listen to me in her silence, dicing vegetables, rolling lumpia shanghai, baking peanut butter cookies. I'm a selfish man because I can't stop grieving. I'm not holding her back and pleading for her return, but I can't think of her without being consumed by overwhelming emotions. I'm always praying for her eternal happiness and restful peace, trying to push back everything I miss about my mom when she's not physically here and I can't see her smile or hear her voice. I am so very weak. So, I do my best to learn from my mom's wisdom and instill the same boundless love within my own family. As a teenager, with my collection of 33 RPM LPs, one of my most treasured albums is the 2-disc set of The Innocent Age from Dan Fogelberg. It's currently framed on my wall. I learned to sing all seventeen tracks with great passion. I'd mix music from The Innocent Age with The Stranger (Billy Joel), Even Now (Barry Manilow), 4 (Foreigner), In the Heart (Kool & the Gang), and I Am (Earth, Wind & Fire), among others.
