A reasonably long (7.125"), curved blade with an extremely abrupt point make the Hissatsu a fine fighting knife. The curve will provide deep, penetrating slashes, and should cause severe cuts. It has a decent grip made of a tacky, well-textured material (kraton, maybe?) - though no hilt, and no pommel. The grind on the spine of the blade makes it a deadly stabbing weapon. Note that it weakens the lateral strength, limiting the tip strength for prying. The sheath holds the knife so securely that it is effective for draw-and-slash. It also offers universal attachment options. The steel is a weak point (440A stainless), but if you limit this to a fighting blade it won't be a problem. It is simply not suitable for survival or utility, as the blade is too narrow and the steel won't hold a fine edge against abrasive or hard surfaces. Great blade design - singular in purpose - and a great carry sheath make this an excellent tactical deployment choice as a last ditch weapon. 7/10.

When deploying a folding knife in an encounter, you may find your grip needs to be adjusted before applying a stab or slash. The moments you need to position your fingers for a secure grip is precious time which you may not have. When your life depends on it, you need that knife NOW. So try this - as you deploy the blade, tuck your thumb inside the depression or behind the guard normally reserved for your index finger. Assuming you used your thumb to deploy the knife, it should already be in perfect position to rest in place, providing an instantaneous, secure grip. You simply deploy and go - instead of deploy, adjust, and go. Try it, and let me know what you think.

Chopping old pine at the beach. Even though its a softer wood the log had no damage to it after bashing it against the rocks. There was no rot on the wood. It's a very solid dependable folder. ps: If I actually knew what "beaver style" is (0:50) I'd tell you. ;) pps: It took about 3 or 4 more minutes to get all the way through the log.

The Nitrous Stryker Tanto is made in the USA by Benchmade, it features a stonewashed 3.6 inch blade of D2 steel, tanto tip, linerlock, assisted opening, G10 handle scales. The blade was very badly centered and the small thumb studs do require definite effort and force when deploying it, but the steel is very good and the assist is strong. The stonewash is very well done. The texturing on both the G10 and thumb ramp is highly effective. I consider it an upgrade of my Hissatsu Folder - same size, same purpose, better steel.

This knife is a looker. This aluminum version of the CRKT Shenanigan in many ways looks a lot more expensive than it is. It strikes the appearance of a well-crafted titanium tactical folder. With its 3.25" AUS8 clip blade and its aggressive unsharpened swedge, it seems like it could hold its own in that role as well. The blade arrives with a beautiful and sharp polished edge that slices readily. It is black titanium nitride coated which is handsome. The AUS8 choice is wise. The outstanding milled jimping on the 6061 T6 aluminum handles help traction immensely. These bead blasted and clear coated scales are comfortable with their rubber inserts and have excellent ergos in forward and reverse grips. Expect a little bit of pocket extraction problems as those rubber inserts really grap your pocket under that clip. The clip is somewhat flared out, a Ken Onion design feature that puts it in unision with the organic lines of the Shenanigan. Unfortunately it forces tip down carry at one position only. Lefties will not dig this so much. Speed of deployment and lockup in this Onion- designed flipper with its bronze bushings is outstanding. The strip lock on the milled alum. handle may look a little thin but it seems plenty strong enough for EDC use. Value is excellent at around $50; you definitely will think you are getting a more expensive knife. The Shenanigan is also available in a Zytel frame and in combo edges (however I do not care for the rough serrations in this model <b>...</b>
