Gen.SARATH FONSEKA SAYS THAT HE WILLL CLASH ONLY WITH TIGERS AND NOT WITH PIGS

"I might have clashed with the tigers, but I wont clash with pigs", said the former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka. He was referring to a particular statement he made about a politician and the reactions to it. The Former Army Commander made this statement while he was being escorted out from the court premises following the proceedings relating to the White Flag case which was called up today before a three-judge bench of the Colombo High Court. JVP Parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake providing evidence before the Colombo High Court said that Frederica Janz had requested Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka not to reject her article published in The Sunday Leader newspaper. MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake testifying before the trial-at-bar said that Frederica Janz had made this request on December 14, 2009 at Sarath Fonseka's office. He added that the Chairman of The Sunday Leader Newspaper, Lal Wickrematunge was also present at the occasion. He pointed out that at the time Sarath Fonseka was preparing to hold a media briefing to reject the article in question as it contained something that he did not say. Dissanayake noted that prior to the media briefing the Former Army Commander had discussions with Lal Wickrematunge and Frederica Janz. Meanwhile, Parliamentarian Rajiv Wijesinghe was summoned to court today to provide evidence in relation to a letter that was sent to the United Nations. He said that since the letter was issued by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Geneva, he ...
Three more Army officers to be sent on retirement - Gen Fonseka

Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has decided to send three more senior Army officers who held key positions when Sarath Fonseka held the offices of Army Commander and Chief of Defence Staff, on compulsory retirement, sources from the Army Headquarters said. Sources said that except for five Majors General in the Gajaba Regiment and one Major General in the infantry regiment, the rest of the senior Army officers who had served under Sarath Fonseka have been sent on compulsory retirement without being charged. The three senior Army officers who are to be sent on retirement are Brigdaiers Dhampath Fernando, Ashoka Amunugama and Piyal Wickremaratne. Brigadier Ashoka Amunugama was in-charge of Fonseka's personal security after he was attacked by an LTTE suicide cadre. He completely changed the security system at the Army Headquarters to protect Fonseka. The real reason for sending Brigadier Amunugama on retirement is the fact that he had ordered body checks for all senior Army personnel who met with Fonseka at the time. Brigadier Piyal Wickremaratne served as the deputy commander of the 53rd Brigade and as the head of the 61st Brigade. The reason to send him on retirement is the exhibition of a portrait of Fonseka in a stall at the exhibition held to mark the 60th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army. Brigadier Dhampath Fernando served as the head of the 23rd Brigade and the planning director of the Chief of Defence Staff's office. He is being sent on retirement since he was ...

General Fonseka bracing for jail- War hero, Now Prisoner No 022032 -2010-10-01

War hero now prisoner No: 0/22032 Fonseka sleeps on ground and stands in queue for meals Ranil faces new issues, including Ameratunga's embarrassing trip to US (By Our Political Editor ) It was close upon midnight Thursday when former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka was escorted into an isolated cell in Ward "S" at the high security Welikada Prison. Fonseka, now Prisoner No: 0/22032, changed from a national dress into an ill-fitting jumper, the regular attire for convicts and slept the night on a mat on the cement floor. He had only one pillow. He was woken up at 5 am on Friday, like all other inmates in the block. His cell had a toilet but he complained the flush was not working. He had to walk to a water tank outside the ward. There, he had to use a bucket to draw water to wash or bathe. Later, with a metal jug on one hand and a metal plate on the other, he stood in the queue with other convicts to be served breakfast. It was rice and Pol Sambol. As a prelude to Prison officials assigning him his daily chores, a doctor examined him. Tailors at the prison also took his correct measurements to provide him more jumpers to suit his size. For lunch on Friday, he joined the queue again with the metal cup and plate. Lunch was rice, a watery cucumber curry, dhal, a vegetable Mellun (dry curry or condiment made of minced leaves or fruit and scraped coconut) with a small piece of fish and gravy. Immediately thereafter, he was back in his cell until 2 pm After a short break outside ...
