Aspart of the celebrations to mark the 125th anniversary of national parks in Canada (2010), 32 student video reporters worked in the 32 Parks Canada field units across the country. Students were tasked with producing a series of video reports on their experiences in our national parks, national historic sites and national marine conservation areas.

Fort George, Ardersier, Highland, Scotland, is a large 18th century fortress near Inverness with perhaps the mightiest artillery fortifications in Europe. It was built to pacify the Scottish Highlands in the aftermath of the Jacobite rising of 1745, replacing an earlier Fort George built with the same aim after the 1715 Jacobite rising. The fortress has never been attacked and has remained in continuous use as a garrison. The fortification is based on a Star design, it remains virtually unaltered and nowadays is open to visitors with exhibits and recreations showing use at different periods, while still serving as army barracks. Originally the depot of the Seaforth Highlanders and later the Queen's Own Highlanders (Seaforth and Camerons), it was more recently home to the Royal Irish Regiment, and as of 2007, the new garrison of the Black Watch, 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland.

Get a glimpse into 19th century military life at Fort George National Historic Site. This video shows you some of the activities you can see and take part in at this historic fort. Talk with the soldiers in their impressive period uniforms. See the smoke and hear the noise as soldiers fire their muskets. Step inside the officers kitchen to discover what is on todays menu. See children try on soldiers uniforms and watch their expressions! Listen to the sounds of a bodhrun and penny whistle as musicians perform an Irish tune. Take a visit of the sites museum and see some of the exhibits on display. Located in Niagara on the Lake, less than two hours from Toronto, Fort George National Historic Site transports us back to the War of 1812, when tensions between British North America and the United States erupted into open conflict. Completed in 1802, Fort George was an imposing British headquarters that stood guard over transportation on the Niagara River. Although captured and destroyed by American troops during the Battle of Fort George, the American forces were eventually repelled and the site returned to British control. Today you can explore a reconstruction of the fort and experience what life was like for soldiers during this tumultuous time. This is the British Ship "Royal Fleet Auxiliary Fort George" passing west through the Gulf of Corryvreckan, Scotland, August 2010. This was taken from a Bavaria 47 yacht "Amber" after a trip from St Kilda. We could see the sailors waving and taking photographs of us. It was a great sight, and quite unexpected. It was almost at the top of the tide so we could both sail through easily.

From Prince George Citizen breaking news: A derailment this morning along CN's tracks in Prince George sent flames skyward and burning fuel created a plume of black smoke hundreds of feet high. About 10 am a locomotive derailed and collided with a train on the opposing set of tracks, said RCMP Const. Gary Godwin. The incident occurred across the Fraser River from Paddlewheel Park in South Fort George. Flames leaped almost as high as the cutbanks, and burning fuel discharged down the bank into the Fraser. Flames were visible on top of the water. A lumber car was also burning. Hundreds of onlookers viewed the blaze from Paddlewheel Park. That led to the park being closed due to the danger of a tanker laden with diesel exploding. Three locomotives were northbound while the train with the lumber was southbound.
