Phil X of The Drills & Fretted Americana plays a Loucin Acoustic guitar

Garren at Loucin Guitar Co. is hand-crafting Phil X a custom acoustic guitar. The guitar is being built to his exact specs. Phil was in town and dropped by my shop in Oakville, Ontario to check on the progress of his guitar. He was blown away. While here I had the cameras on and we caught on tape, what Phil does best. First he talks about his guitar, then plays a few songs on our "shop guitar"......some you've never heard before like "air hockey champion" & "beautiful apartment" unplugged!! To see "play by play" photos of the "making of Phil X's guitar" check out Facebook "Garren Dakessian-Loucin Guitars". Check back for part 2 of when Phil picks up his LD-PX. www.loucinguitars.com Here at Loucin Guitar Co. I hand-craft custom acoustics I also offer Guitar Building Courses. Yngwie & Eruption?!! PHIL X! 2004 Fender Stratocaster Mary Kaye Hardtail 01135

www.frettedamericana.com This is the Hardtail Stratocaster that Greg Fessler of the Fender Custom Shop made for May Kaye in late 2004. This preceeded the Custom Shop Tribute Series run of fifty special '56 'Desert Sand' Stratocasters, all with the usual tremolo. We believe this to be the only 'Hardtail' Mary Kaye Stratocaster ever produced. This fantastic and historically important guitar with a Vintage Blonde Nitro Celulose 'Spider' vein finish weighs just 6.60 lbs. and has a nut width of just over 1 5/8 inches and a scale length of 25 1/2 inches. One-piece 'Swamp' ash body, one-piece maple neck with a typical "10/56 Boat Neck Shape," and maple fretboard with 21 Vintage Style 'medium' frets and black dot position markers. Four-bolt neck plate engraved "MK 5037 / Limited Release / 2005 / Fender / Custom Shop". Three 'specially custom wound' pickups by Abigail Ybarra; all three signed "Abby" and dated "12-9-04" with perfectly balanced outputs of 5.84k, 5.84k, and 5.83k. Written in pencil on the bottom of the neck is "Mary Kaye" and beneath that is the pencil signature of Greg Fessler. The neck pickup cavity is stamped in blind "GF". All hardware gold-plated. This guitar is in mint (9.50) condition. Housed in the original Fender Vintage Tweed hardshell case with orange plush lining (9.50).

The serial number is also engraved on the outside of the control cavity cover. The plastic 'rings' (between the pickups and the body) have been replaced due to the quite common 'disintegration' of the original tortoiseshell material. Apart from a few very minor surface marks on the back and edges and a small area of discoloration on the silver sparkle top just by the bass-side of the neck pickup, this is an exceptionally clean and totally original example. The neck has been re-fretted (with the original gauge fret-wire) so expertly that it is almost impossible to tell. A superb example of a beautiful piece of guitar history. Housed in the original two-tone gray hardshell case with maroon plush lining (9.00).
