Bach, Contrapunctus 9, Art of Fugue (Kunst der Fuge)

FAQ JS Bach's Contrapunctus 9 from the Art of Fugue (Kunst der Fuge), with conventional score, bar-graph score, and video of hands playing it. Q: Wherecan I get the sheet music for this piece? A: The score in the video can be downloaded from here: www.musanim.com Q: What instrument is that? A: It's actually two instruments: a piano (the one in my living room) and a sampled pipe organ (an Alborn-Galanti Silbermann Archiv). The piano has MIDI Out (from a Moog PianoBar) which was recorded and played back to play the organ. Q: How did you make this video? A: First I videotaped myself playing it, and recorded both the audio (from my Kimball grand piano) and MIDI (from a Moog PianoBar attached to the piano). Then, I rerecorded the audio and MIDI for each of the four voices separately; I did this so that I could color-code the video based on voice and to get a performance that was a little cleaner (it also afforded me the opportunity to add a 16-foot stop to the bass line in a few places). The conventional score is from screenshots from the notation program Sibelius, and the bar-graph score was generated from the MIDI using my own custom software. All these things were assembled in Adobe Premiere and converted to Flash with the On2 Flix converter. Q: I'm having trouble reading the score. A: It's a little better if you watch it in high-quality mode: www.youtube.com Q: Is there a way I could make the bar-graph scores myself? Ulytau - Toccata and fuge (Live) HD

Kazakhstan is mainly known as part of the former Soviet Union, maybe as well as the biggest interior or also riparian state of the Aral Sea. A few people associate Kazakhstan with a wild lowlands and rough mountain ranges and this is very the Kazakh band ULYTAU starts off! Somewhere settled between traditional rhythms, classical elements and hard rocking sounds ULYTAU can easily be compared with artists like Apocalyptica, Korpklaani or In Extremo. Even though the 6 Kazakh abdicate singing to emphasize the connection between traditional sounds of the instrument Dombra, classics like the violin and the piano or the original instrumentation of guitar, bass and drums, ULYTAUs songs leave nothing to be desired. The band around violist Alua Makanova, consisting of ERzan Alimbetov (Dombra), Maxim Kitschigin (guitar), Roman Adonin (piano), Rafael Arslanov (drums) and Kanagat Abdukarymov (bass), was founded in 2001 by Kydryrali Bolmanov. From the beginning on they wanted to connect the western and eastern cultural groups, based on the background of modern rock music and classical pieces of Bach, Vivaldi, Paganini, Dauletkerey, Tattimbet or Tlendiev. ULYTAU would like to further the Kazakh tradition of playing the Domba with their music, as well as the modern elements. For the first time the group caused a stir in October 2001, when they achieved the title as the world champion at the World Championship for performing arts and left 86 countries behind. Karl Richter performs the Dorische Toccata und Fuge in d-moll on the Silbermann organ of St. Mary's Cathedral in Freiberg, part one. These were the last and probably the best recordings he ever produced in his career. Herr Richter displays his excellence as usual but this time with more passion than ever before. Stretching the resources of the instrument to its limit. Karl Richter has a certain special touch with his interpretations that makes it so smooth and delicate but at the same time overwhelmingly powerful. Ludwig Van Beethoven - Grosse Fuge, Op. 133, Part II

As I promised to upload more pieces, please welcome Ludwig Van Beethoven and his Große Fuge(Grosse Fuge), Opus 133! He wrote this piece when he was completely deaf a short time before he died, in 1825-1826. The Große Fuge is a single-movement composition for string quartet by Ludwig van Beethoven. Beethoven originally composed the massive fugue as the final movement of his String Quartet No. 13 (Op. 130). However, the Fugue was so demanding of contemporary performers and unpopular with audiences that Beethoven's publisher urged him to write a new finale for the string quartet. Beethoven, notorious for his stubborn personality and indifference to public opinion or taste, acquiesced to his publisher's request on this occasion and published the Fugue as a separate opus number, opus 133. He then wrote a finale that replaced the Fugue, which is considerably lighter in character, more akin to the other movements of the opus 130 quartet. Today, performances of the quartet include either the Fugue or its replacement movement. "[it is] an absolutely contemporary piece of music that will be contemporary forever." - Igor Stravinsky en.wikipedia.org This is my third video, after Pachelbel's Canon: youtube.com and Saint-Saëns' Danse Macabre: youtube.com I see you enjoy the pieces from your very lovely comments. It encourages me to upload more^^ BTW, this(the Fuge) is one of my favorites. I have first heard this piece in the movie "Copying Beethoven". I enjoyed the movie very much <b>...</b>

Lady Gaga Fugue

My friend Vincenzo Culotta plays my "Lady Gaga Fugue", a piece based on the theme from the song "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga. This should show how counterpoint can be fun and up to date ;) The main idea was to write a "neo-baroque" fugue that would sound both baroque and modern. To give a "modern feeling" I used a special treatment of fourths, fifths, suspensions and rythm. JS Bach - Die Kunst der Fuge. Contrapunctus No 14. Completed and played by V. Gryaznov

This is Contrapunctus No 14 from Bach's "Art of Fugue", his last cycle and his testament for us. This fugue was not completed by the composer. A lot of musicians suppose that it's not a fugue a 3 soggetti (based on 3 themes) but a fugue a 4 sogetti. The 4th theme for this fugue might probably be the very first theme from this cycle (it would be logical). And all 4 themes would appear together in the missing part of this great fugue. I tried to reconstruct this plan... In this perfomance you will hear the virtual last page of the fugue were all 4 subjects are combined. Recorded from my state exam at the conservatory. You will also hear the sounds of real bells at the end of the record. There is no arrangement here! There is a church near the conservatory, and the bells began to ring while I was playing. И.С.Бах. Контрапункт №14 из "Искусства фуги". Завершен и исполнен Вячеславом Грязновым. Запись с государственного экзамена в Московской консерватории. В конце слышно, как звонят колокола в церкви рядом с консерваторией.

Ludwig van Beethoven - Grand Fugue Op. 133

Ludwig van Beethoven (1770--1827) Große Fuge (Grand Fugue), Op. 133 (1825) for string quartet Quatuor Talich The Große Fuge (or Grosse Fuge, also known in English as Grand Fugue), Op. 133, is a single-movement composition for string quartet by Ludwig van Beethoven. A massive double fugue, it originally served as the final movement of his Quartet No. 13 in B♭ major (Op. 130) but he replaced it with a new finale and published it separately in 1827 as Op. 133. It was composed in 1825, when Beethoven was completely deaf, and is considered one of his late quartets. It was first performed in 1826, as the finale of the Bb quartet, by the Schuppanzigh Quartet. The Große Fuge is famous for its extreme technical demands and its unrelentingly introspective nature, even by the standards of his late period. It is the largest and most difficult of all of Beethoven's string quartet movements. Most 19th century critics dismissed the work. Daniel Gregory Mason called it "repellent", a reviewer writing for Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung in 1826 described the fugue as "incomprehensible, like Chinese" and "a confusion of Babel". However critical opinion of the work has risen steadily since the beginning of the 20th century. The work is now considered among Beethoven's greatest achievements. Igor Stravinsky said of it, "[it is] an absolutely contemporary piece of music that will be contemporary forever." ~ Wikipedia -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Themusic published on Epogdous' channel is <b>...</b>
