Surprise guest, Robert Trujillo of Metallica, was definitely one of the highlights of this phenomenal show. There was a little hiccup at 1:18 that provided some comedy and also allowed these professionals the opportunity to show the audience how to get back on track and finish strong. Robert Trujillo is an incredible bass player who has seamlessly fit-in with Metallica while replacing Jason Newsted and the late, great Cliff Burton.

I can't think of a better way to describe the music of Rodrigo y Gabriela than with three words: "heavy metal flamenco." And yet the duo doesn't play heavy metal — its members perform instrumentals on nylon-string guitars — nor does it play Spanish dance music. But the term fits because the pair's fierce guitar riffs feel powerfully electric, and because Rodrigo y Gabriela's rhythmic style showcases a frenetic strum that conjures the energy of flamenco. The duo have just released a new album titled, 11:11, which pays tribute to the pair's heroes — Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Astor Piazzolla and Pantera's Dimebag Darrell. They recently performed a few tracks for the NPR Music Tiny Desk series including "Hanuman" and "Buster Voodoo."

Her latest recording is another adventurous departure, featuring 26 short sparkling works by seven South American composers with the daunting Piano Sonata No.1 by Ginastera at its centre. The composers Montero has chosen to showcase are Ernesto Lecuona (1896-1963) from Cuba, Ernesto Nazareth (1863-1934) from Brazil, Antonío Esteves (1916-88), Teresa Carreño (1853-1917) and Moisés Moleiro (1904-79) from Venezuela and Alberto Ginastera (1916-83) from Argentina. Many of the 26 miniatures Montero has selected for her CD are dance-based. The exception is Ginastera's four-movement Sonata No.1 composed in 1952 and generally considered to be his master work for the piano, demanding incredible virtuosity.

In 1925, Gabriela becomes cook, mistress, and then wife of Nacib, a bar owner in a small Brazilian coastal town runs by the local colonels. Nacib becomes tired of Gabriela's uneducated ways, and annuls the marriage when he finds her in bed with his friend Tonico.
