Please Subscribe To The Evolution Documentary YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com Broadcast (2007) With spectacular cinematography from land, sea and air, and blending rugged volcanic landscapes with intimate animal behaviour, this ambitious series from the BBC's Natural History Unit brings this remarkable archipelago to captivating life. This opening episode chronicles the many fascinating stages of the island chain's existence, and reveals how creatures have developed enterprising ways of dealing with life on this restless Pacific outpost. Witness the dramatic eruption of the largest of all the Galapagos volcanoes, Sierra Negra, blowing smoke and ash seven miles into the sky; marine iguanas, the worlds only seagoing lizards, leaping off lava cliffs into treacherous surf; Galapagos giant tortoises, the largest on Earth, being groomed by Darwin's finches, and the magical courtship display of the waved albatross. Tilda Swinton is the narrator. Against a backdrop of smouldering volcanoes, brittle lava fields, fields of giant cactus and wave pounded shores, witness blue footed boobies plunge diving in to treacherous waters, sea lions surfing, the beautiful courtship dance of the waved albatross, Darwin's finches as crafty tool users and hawks hunting marine iguanas. Galapagos is unlike any other place on Earth. Galapagos 2/3 Islands Changed The World (BBC Documentary)

Please Subscribe To The Evolution Documentary YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com Broadcast (2007) In the early 16th century, the first person in recorded history to set foot on Galapagos, the Bishop of Panama, deemed it a hellish place. He found no water and two of his men and ten of his horses perished. Through time, this forbidding archipelago became the haunt of pirates and whalers, but as more people came to Galapagos, they began to see it in a whole new light. In 1835, Charles Darwin's brush with these islands became the catalyst for a revolution that would transform our understanding of life on Earth. From flightless cormorants hunting underwater to giant tortoises on the rim of an active volcano, a look at the hidden side of Galapagos, revealing why it is a fascinating showcase for evolution. The archipelago is made up of thirteen main islands, they sit astride the equator, almost a thousand kilometres off the coast of South America, and are connected directly to the heart of the planet. Galapagos: The Enchanted Voyage (IMAX)

Please Subscribe To The Evolution Documentary YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com Broadcast (1999) Presented by the Smithsonian Institution and Imax Ltd., and using IMAX 3D technology, Galapagos vividly documents an eight-week expedition to the islands and surrounding waters. Part adventure, part scientific expedition, part personal quest, and part fantastic voyage, this unprecedented non-fiction film takes audiences on a journey with marine biologist Dr. Carole Baldwin, from the Smithsonian Institutions's Museum of Natural History, on her first trips to the famed Gallpagos Islands. An amazingly immersive cinematic experience, Galapagos delves deep into the largely unknown waters surrounding the volcanic archipelago to explore the natural wonders of a realm that is truly a living natural science laboratory. Using Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution's research vessel, the SEWARD JOHNSON as the mother ship-and their high-tech submersible JOHNSON-SEA-LINK-the highly distinguished research and filmmaking team deployed technology light years ahead of the crude instruments Charles Darwin had at his disposal during his famous 1835 visit to the region.

National Geographic Islands: Galapagos

The Galapagos Islands are a small archipelago of islands belonging to Ecuador in the eastern Pacific Ocean. The islands are quite remote and isolated, lying some 1000 km (620 miles) west of the South American continent. The Galapagos archipelago consists of 13 main islands and 6 smaller isles, which together embrace some 50000 sq km (19500 sq miles) of ocean. Strict controls on tourist access are maintained in an effort to protect the natural habitats and all visitors must be accompanied by a national park-certified naturalist tour guide.

Galapagos 3/3 Forces Of Change (BBC Documentary)

Please Subscribe To The Evolution Documentary YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com Broadcast (2007) A land of fire set astride the equator and exposed to powerful forces of nature. This concluding episode reveals how, through time and isolation, the local animals and plants have evolved the most surprising ways to cope with the profound geological and climatic forces affecting them. Land iguanas are forced to climb to the summit of the harshest and most volcanically active of all the Galapagos islands to lay their eggs in the few pockets of warm, soft soil that exist here. Fur seals have learned to seek daytime shelter from the equatorial sun in magical undersea lava grottos. The most bizarre collection of plankton rise from the abyss in the middle of the night on currents welling up from deep beneath the flanks of Galapagos. And comical blue footed boobies have a flexible breeding season, reacting fast when the ocean currents are at their richest. Galapagos Island by prismash

The Galápagos Islands are an archipelago of volcanic islands distributed around the equator in the Pacific Ocean, 972 km (525 nmi) west of continental Ecuador, of which they are a part. Wildlife is its most notable feature. The Galápagos Islands and its surrounding waters form an Ecuadorian province, a national park, and a biological marine reserve. The principal language on the islands is Spanish. The islands have a population of around 23000. The islands are geologically young and famed for their vast number of endemic species, which were studied by Charles Darwin during the voyage of the Beagle. His observations and collections contributed to the inception of Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection. The first crude navigation chart of the islands was done by the buccaneer Ambrose Cowley in 1684. He named the individual islands after some of his fellow pirates or after the English noblemen who helped the privateer's cause. More recently, the Ecuadorian government gave most of the islands Spanish names. While the Spanish names are official, many users (especially ecological researchers) continue to use the older English names, particularly as those were the names used when Charles Darwin visited.

Galapagos

The Galapagos Islands are among the most beautiful and pristine places remaining on earth. Stark, rugged, and inhabited by some of the most bizarre creatures you will ever see, these young, volcanic islands offer a rare insight into what our planet was like before man conquered and cultivated large areas of its surface. While visiting the Galapagos, Charles Darwin noticed unusual variations in the animal species from one island to another. It appeared that the various animals inhabiting the Galapagos were related, but on each island the animals were uniquely adapted for survival in their particular environment. Darwin's observations during his it brief initial visit to the Galapagos were ultimately destined to form the basis of his revolutionary theory of evolution. Ironically, the controversy surrounding Darwin's theories continued to this day. The photographs in this video were taken in October, 2006, while on a National Geographic Expeditions tour on the Lindblad vessel MS Islander. Galapagos Islands Trip Dec 2011

We spent 4 nights / 5 days on a boat touring the Galapagos Islands (around Santa Cruz) in December 2011 with G Adventures. Stunning scenery and really close up encounters with Iguanas, Sea Lions, Seals, Sharks, sting rays, the Galapagos Hawk, etc. It was about 26 degrees during the day but the water was about 16 degrees so we needed to snorkel with a wetsuit for comfort. Every day was spent touring the islands and snorkelling. The boat and food were excellent; the crew were really good; we had a great time. I shot the video using my new Panasonic HDS-TM900. The underwater videos were taken with our Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT2.

NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer: Galápagos Rift, New Hydrothermal Vent Discovered 7/23/2011

Nine ROV dives into the Galapágos Rift 2011 Expedition, the science team finally discovered the type of hydrothermal vent community they had been searching for. Clusters of tube worms, limpets, mussels, and anemones were seen to inhabit cracks in the lava bed where mineral-rich, geothermally-heated water 'vents' out. Two species of tube worms were found in abundance: the giant Riftia pachyptila and also the much smaller, never before observed in the Galápagos, Tevnia jerichonana. Brachyuran crabs, vent shrimp, and scale worms clung not only to the surrounding rock but also to the tube worms themselves in some cases. Extensive fields of dead and living clams surrounded the individual pockets of venting. Video courtesy of NOAA Okeanos Explorer Program, Galapágos Rift Expedition 2011.
