
The Jack Hylton Band in the mid 1920s playing an Irving Berlin composition with some amusing lyrics. "The most neglected girls in town are those of hair of black or brown. The redheads and the sweet brunettes make very lovely household pets because gentlemen prefer blondes. A curly head of yellow without any sense can always make a fellow pay all the expense. A girl.who with a golden frock can take a Scotsman out to shop,because gentlemen prefer blondes" Hylton's wife even dyed her hair blonde. Strangely Hylton's career is well documented from 1921 to 1925,but then very little biographical information is available,in spite of the band going strength to strength until 1929 (when he sold 3 million records for HMV in that year) He was playing mainly at the Alhambra theatre in early 1926 when he decided to become a touring showband.. This proved to be an astute move as what he charged for one week at a venue,he charged per performance on tour. So much was he in demand that so as not to lose hotel residencies he got the Starita brothers to form bands at the Picadilly and Ambassdors hotels whilst he toured.. Many British musicians were influenced by seeing and hearing the Orginal Dixieland Dance Band play at the Hammersmith Palais..However Hylton was under orders in 1921 by the Queen's Hall managers wife to copy Whitman's orchestrations for his own band..He would listen to those early Whiteman's and get the Queen's Hall Orchestra (who played in the roof garden) to imitate the <b>...</b>
