Gerber Clutch multi-tool: High Value Utility

The Gerber Clutch multi-tool (MT) proves that mini tools dont have to be expensive to be useful. It possesses most of the utility had by larger tools, albeit with reduced leverage. In the Clutch you can find needle nosed pliers, wire cutters, a well-shaped blade, two-dimensional drivers, tweezers, and a nail maintenance tool. Another bonus over some competitors, like the Leatherman Squirt P4, is a conventionally ground and larger blade that could fill many of your EDC roles. Possible downsides would include: a bit larger size and more weight than the P4 MT (the mini MT class leader I think) and the smallest flathead screw bit needed some grinding for additional precision. But at a mere $12 (more or less) the Gerber Clutch multi-tool offers a ton of utility in a compact package at a bargain price. ////////////////////Nutnfancy Likeability Scale: 7 out of 10

Gerber Knives

I have a lot of Gerber knives, but I know there are better knife companies out there. So what do like about Gerbers? Affordability and accessibility. For most tasks, they're a good value. I can own several for different situations for the price of a single more expensive blade. Of course, I would like it better if they were all still made in America. Gerber - Bear Grylls Ultimate Knife

I was given the opportunity by a member of tactical frenchies' forum to get my hands on the second version of Gerber's Ultimate Knife in the Bear Grylls collection. This knife had VERY bad press amongst reviewers when it first came out. Some of it was down to Gerber's poor work in developing an efficient survival tool and the other certainly down to people not being very keen about BG's authenticity as a survivalist. My personal opinion didn't really matter in that case and when I was offered the opportunity to find out by myself what the upgraded version was all about, I agreed and tried it with an open mind. The result is this: the Gerber Ultimate Knife from Bear Grylls' collection is a good system. Mark my words I did NOT say awesome or the best and I did not say bad either. For the price it offers some interesting capabilities and a rather complete system. The sheath inspired from the LMFII system is well thought of and the only thing I would add to it would be clips on the velcro straps.I find the already set angle of the sharpening stone to be foul proof and the integration of the fire steel very clever. The knife itself is very comfortable due to the rubberised material on the handle. The handle is a bit geared towards bigger hands than mine but was fine. The steel is some cheap unnamed thing from Asia and it holds a decent edge. Nothing spectacular but okay. In that sense the serration take over quickly and ensure increase longevity of the cutting ability. I do ...

Guy Gerber The Mirror Game (Visionquest / VQ011 A1) OFFICIAL

Two giant forces in dance music collide as Guy Gerber makes his first foray with the Visionquest imprint. 'The Mirror Game', Guy's first original material since 2010, explores varying shades and tempos across two distinct cuts of progressive tech and electronica. Title track 'The Mirror Game' is filled with gothic drama from the start. As the deep and trippy synth chords fuse with the distorted bass, layered disembodied voices float into the mix casting their dream-like spell whilst the soft tech groove underlies the gothic melody. A balance of melancholic atmosphere and euphoric surges, 'The Mirror Game' has a vivid, timeless feel that would surely make a perfect end-of-the-night record. Upping the tempo with striding rhythms and endless drive, B-side 'One Day In May' provides the punchier dancefloor cut. Steeped in a trippy cosmic tango and echoes of eastern melody, the seductive exchange between female and male vocal working in hypnotic conjunction with the fluid groove. In classic Guy Gerber style, 'One Day In May' showcases a heady mix of sounds with dazzling execution. Guy Gerber, originally from Tel-Aviv Israel, has long been a wildly prolific artist delivering anthemic releases on labels such as Cocoon and Cadenza as well as own imprint Supplement Facts that he set up in 2006. Guy is working on his new album project due to be released later this year, the 'Steady EP' will drop on Supplement Facts in May and an entry into the illustrious fabric compilation hall of ...

Gerber's old style Steadfast Tactical Blade is, in my opinion, a superior choice when put up against a Ka-bar. I have used Ka-bar fighting knives many times, and when handling the Steadfast I instantly felt that it was better in several aspects. Gerber Diesel Multi-tool by Nutnfancy

Lots of downsides in this MDMT for me. The Gerber Diesel just doesn't connect with me for lots of reasons, shown in this short review. Maybe it's the funky, thin half-serrated Wharncliffe main blade situated in the wrong orientation on the handle. But then there's the harder to deploy pliers (any torsion on handles will prevent deployment), short shank drivers, a file with no milling on the bottom, a small cap lifter and can opener, and all are hard to get out. Upsides include a good saw and scissors. The wiggly plier head does not inspire confidence and the cutters were damaged with my nail cut test. It seems a fair amount compromise is invoked in the Diesel with the snap-out pliers. The nylon sheath is good but is not MOLLE compatible and it can't hold the multi-pliers in extended position. Value is fair with this MDMT at around $70. But given the downsides and this pricing level, I'd much rather spring for the new for 2012 Leatherman OHT (superior design), a Charge, Wave, or Victorinox Spirit than the Diesel./////////////////////Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 5 out of 10

Gerber Vise - Excellent Mini MT

This was a part of my EDC for about 7 months. Recently I have moved up to the Juice S2 due to it's increased capabilities. I especially like the scissors on the Juice S2. The Gerber Vise weighs in at 2.5oz and the Leatherman S2 Juice comes in at 4.4oz. The extra 2oz for the S2 Juice is well worth the extra weight in my EDC. This is a high value MT at the price point of $12 - 15 at Cheaper than Dirt or other online retailer.

Bear Grylls Gerber Ultimate Knife Review, Equip 2 Endure

amzn.to www.youtube.com Well, I can say that Gerber has fixed the problem the the pommel, but the serration constituted a big issue for me personally. For $60.00 MSRP, (I paid $50) you get a Whistle, Sharpening Stone, Fire Starter, Knife, and a Sheath that I believe is a step backwards from the LMF2. While some people are going to hate this knife others will love it. I say, it was not bad. I think if we dumped the serrations and focused on something more rugged to include the sheath we would be at a better place, but there are a lot of options for this price point.

Gerber Combat Folder: Something Wicked This Way Comes

With a menacing 4.5" dagger blade and comfortably large, impact-capable handle, the Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn Combat Folder is a mean blade. Few folding tactical blades match its reach and penetration capabilities at this weight and price range. Downsides would be the goofy mystery steel (425 M) that Gerber forces upon us and the pivot-mounted, non-switchable pocket clip. But the rest is outstanding: fast deployment, solid lockup, strong and fold proof Interlock locking system, blackened SS clip that's stout and contoured to handle, and a useful sheath. While a dedicated thrust cutter (dagger) design, the Gerber Combat Folder could also serve in some limited utility tasks as well. But it's main function is to provide you with a deadly backup weapon. And, like mine, it can be made even more effective in this calling by some expert sharpening of the upper edge which is fully protected within the handle. This is another highly recommended folding knife for deploying, combat-engaged Allied troops. Despite the funky steel, I give the Combat Folder a 9 of 10 on my likability rating.

Part 1 Gerber Multi-plier 600: Half Priced, Half Baked

In this 3-part series I pit the Gerber 600 multi-tool against a proven favorite of mine, the Leatherman Charge Ti. Granted these are differently priced MTs but both compete in the full-size category and it's a fair comparison in the given terms of size, weight, ease of use, comfort, toughness, versatility, carry case design, quality/feel, and price. Even the more expensive Gerber DET multi-tool would get smoked by the Charge in most of these categories (like inability to access blades from exterior). To be fair however, the Gerber 600 still is a useful enough tool for fair price. However its use of Gerber's mystery steel, bad design elements, bulkiness, rickety feel, inelegant interface of tool bits, and unimaginative sheath makes it a very distant second to the outstanding Leatherman Charge series (Ti, TTi, AL, ALX). Winner: Leatherman Charge... by a landslide. (This Gerber 600 is the current multi-tool/knife of a USAF survival vest I will review and I will reference this series to flesh out that review.) Gerber EAB: Best Utility Knife Yet?

Not many useful advances have been made on the ole Stanley utility knife, a proven design that just works. Oh sure there's been some folding designs that take the same blades but in my experience they are poorly executed with ineffective blade retention, heavy designs, slow deployment, and excessive bulk. Finally someone is getting it right: the Gerber EAB Pocket Knife. It's compact, takes common utility blades, locks them in solidly, and only weighs 2.2 oz! It can't replace your standard EDC knife because it can't do large cutting/slicing tasks like cutting a burger in half. But if cutting a lot of cardboard or carpet is on the menu this knife is an excellent take along and much more portable than the Stanley. Good job Gerber.

Gerber Gorge vs Cold Steel Spetsnaz Shovel - Urban Survival

Which e-tool is best for a bug out bag? The Gerber Gorge or Cold Steel Spetsnaz shovel? Weight, durability, dependability and ergonomics considered, the Cold Steel Special Forces shovel is the clear choice for me. It's sturdy and versatile and is a perfect addition to a bug out system, or even for weekend campers. The Special Forces Shovel is modeled after the original Soviet Spetznaz shovel. The Spetznaz soldiers made up the most elite unit in the Soviet Army. The US equivalent would be our Green Berets. The shovel head and socket are forged from medium carbon steel, then heat treated for maximum strength. The edges come sharpened to a utility/axe edge that can easily be improved to razor sharpness. The Special Forces Shovel comes complete with a specially made cordura sheath. The sheath features an extra wide belt loop. The sheath and the shovel are available for sale as a stand alone items.

Gerber LHR Combat knife - desktop review, alongside ESEE-4, Kabar short, and Cold Steel Recon Scout

Desktop review of the Gerber LHR combat knife. Blade length - 16cm (3cm of serration, 13cm of plain blade). Blade thickness - ~6mm (7/32") Blade material - 420HC steel with ceramic coating Overall length - 32cm Weight - knife only: 300g (knife + sheath = ~590g) Role - Primarily a combat/tactical deployment knife (NOT utility) I know a lot of people have been reserved about this knife simply due to the blade material, but I think one needs to view this in light of the purpose for which it was designed. It was intended to be used as a primary combat knife (ie, a backup weapon in case your primary (boomstick) fails). AND, whilst out on deployments, the last thing you want to be worried about is spending a lot of time maintaining your blade (sharpening your blade or oiling it, etc). With the choice of steel and the great heat treatment and the ceramic coating, this is quite a solid knife, that was intended to be carried as a combat knife. And it's dependably there and sharp when on patrol. It's definitely not for everyone. I think it needs to be held in the hand, and try the sheath system - having said this, you REALLY want to give the knife retention system a good go (and getting used to) - I initially hated it, but once you get used to it, you hope that every other fixed blade tactical knife would come with such a system. Sure, it might make an okay wood splitter, but this is not what it was designed to do. You wouldn't choose an uzi to pull off long-range sniper shots, so ...
