Astrud Gilberto: Gentle Rain

We both are lost And alone in the world Walk with me In the gentle rain Don't be afraid, I've a hand For your hand and I Will be your love for a while I feel your tears as they fall On my cheek They are warm like gentle rain Come little one you have me in the World and our love will be sweet Very sweet Our love will Be sweet very sad Very sweet like gentle rain Like the gentle rain Like the gentle rain

Aquele Abraco, Gilberto Gil

Aquele Abraco by Gilberto Gil from his Acoustic album. This song made Gil famous decades ago but still sounds modern in this acoustic interpretation. The song's title refers to the open arms of the Cristo Redentor on Corcovado (the large of statue of Jesus on the mountain near Rio) and is a symbol of the city.

Astrud Gilberto - FLY ME TO THE MOON - 1964 - Stereo

Recorded in NY Oct. 21, 1964 at A&R studios. Here it is complete, in stereo & in english as I previously only found the italian version, and another mixed as duet with Sinatra's cheesy version on youtube. Urbie Green is doing the trombone solo, and Joao Gilberto is on the guitar. I adjusted the mix for more rhythm section clarity, and areas that were mixed too low. www.ModCollectibles.com

Antonio Carlos Jobim's - Desafinado (sing João Gilberto)

Antônio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim (born January 25, 1927 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil December 8, 1994 in New York City), also called Tom Jobim, was a Brazilian composer, arranger, singer, pianist and perhaps the greatest legend of bossa nova. Jobims compositions, many performed by João Gilberto, gave birth to the genre in the early 1960s. Jobims roots were planted firmly in the works of Pixinguinha, a legendary musician and composer who, in the 1930s, began the development of modern Brazilian music. He was also influenced by the music of French composer Claude Debussy and by jazz. Jobim found prominence when he teamed up with writer and poet Vinicius de Moraes in providing part of the music for the play Orfeu de Carnaval (1956), that later gained wide recognition in the film Black Orpheus. The lyrics for his most popular songs were written by de Moraes. American jazz singers Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra prominently featured Jobims songs on their albums Ella Abraca Jobim (1981) and Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim (1967), respectively. Jobim is recognized the world over as one of the most influential composers of the 20th century. His first album, Sinfonia Do Rio De Janeiro, was recorded in 1954, with Billy Blanco. Jobim was buried in the Cemitério São João Batista in Rio de Janeiro. The International Airport of Rio de Janeiro is now named in his honor. "The Girl from Ipanema" Astrud Gilberto, João Gilberto and Stan Getz

"The Girl from Ipanema" ("Garota de Ipanema") written in 1962 by Antonio Carlos Jobim with lyrics in Portuguese by Vinicius de Moraes and in English by Norman Gimbel was recorded by Astrud Gilberto, João Gilberto and Stan Getz, in March 1963 as part of the album Getz/Gilberto, released March 1964 on the Verve label. It was released as a single, reaching number one on the Pop Standard chart and was named Record of the Year in 1965. The album won the 1965 Grammy Awards for Best Album of the Year, Best Jazz Instrumental Album - Individual or Group and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. The personel are Stan Getz - tenor saxophone, João Gilberto - guitar, vocals, Astrud Gilberto -- vocals, Antonio Carlos Jobim - piano, Sebastião Neto -- bass, and Milton Banana - drums. The version presented here is the long one from the album and is, in my opinion, superior to the shortened one which received a great deal of play on the radio during the summer of 1964. The album is available on CD on Verve.

Astrud Gilberto - The Girl From Ipanema

PLEASE NOTE: I divided my uploads between multiple channels, Bookmark this link in your browser for instant access to an index with links to all of John1948's oldies classics. LINK: tinyurl.com The honey-toned chanteuse on the surprise Brazilian crossover hit "The Girl From Ipanema," Astrud Gilberto parlayed her previously unscheduled appearance (and professional singing debut) on the song into a lengthy career that resulted in nearly a dozen albums for Verve and a successful performing career that lasted into the '90s. Though her appearance at the studio to record "The Girl From Ipanema" was due only to her husband João, one of the most famed Brazilian artists of the century, Gilberto's singular, quavery tone and undisguised naïveté propelled the song into the charts and influenced a variety of sources in worldwide pop music. Born in Bahia, Gilberto moved to Rio de Janeiro at an early age. She'd had no professional musical experience of any kind until 1963, the year of her visit to New York with her husband, João Gilberto, in a recording session headed by Stan Getz. Getz had already recorded several albums influenced by Brazilian rhythms, and Verve teamed him with the cream of Brazilian music, Antonio Carlos Jobim and João Gilberto, for his next album. Producer Creed Taylor wanted a few English vocals for maximum crossover potential, and as it turned out, Astrud was the only Brazilian present with any grasp of the language. After her husband laid down his Portuguese ...
