Ginnie Springs is home to Devils Cave system and is one of the most visited caves in the world. Gin clear water, over 23000 feet of surveyed passage still going, and unique geology attracts divers of all experience levels, from all over the globe, to the quaint town of High Springs Florida. They come to penetrate the darknessexplore a tunnel they've never seen, and dive the 72 degree, warm, clear water for hours. We produced this short HD video in March 2008. Cave conditions around Florida weren't ideal but the river that was flooding into Devils Ear provided some unbelievable shots, and we still returned with some beautiful footage from outside, and Inside the Devil.

We were shocked to see single tank divers more than 500 ft inside Ginnie Springs. When we exited the cave, there were 3 police cars there, and park staff were agitated. I felt ill because I thought they had died. Turns out that they were just getting kicked out of the park for diving beyond their certification. Whew! Good news that no one was hurt!

Camera used is an Olympus E-PL2 in a Olympus underwater housing made specifically for the E-PL2. Camera set to manuel control. ISO set @ 400 HD set @ 1280 x 720, 30P Camera lens is a Olympus 9 to 18 MM F 4-5.6 Port on underwater housing was a standard flat port. Holding the camera steady is somewhat of a challenge as the current and flow out of the springs can be heavy depending on your location.

Field test at Ginnie Springs of the $60 SnapSights ss-1000 YouTube -ready underwater camera. I have to say I was quite impressed with the results for a $60 camera. We took it down to 55 feet and there were no signs of water leakage. The best tip I can offer is to hold it steady. Moving it around degrades the quality of the videos. This is some incomplete footage from multiple trips to Ginnie Springs, that I edited together for a little clip of Ginnie. I kind of hammed it up in this video with the "primary light failure," graphic, however I really did have a light failure which is why I don't have any Ginnie footage past the start of the mainline. (I was on a solo dive at the time.) This footage is all from the Ear to the Eye. Sharp eyes will notice that a bit of the topside footage is actually from Peacock. Shot with a Canon 7D in a Nauticam housing with a Tokina 10-17 Fisheye lens and Zen DP-100 4" Dome.

Mary Virginia "Jennie" Wade was a 20-year-old resident of Gettysburg engaged to be married to Corp. Johnston H. Skelly of the 87th Pennsylvania.
