I wanted to build a 49-51 shoebox ford as an everyday driver for cheap. Something that would drive nice down the freeway, get good gas mileage, lowered, and cost 3000 or less. The stock Ford suspension really sucks in these. Guys usually spend $2000 on a new front end, and either salvage the old rear end or replace. These project usually take along time and alot of money. I wanted something roadworthy for cheaper and quicker. I used a 91 chevy S10 4.3 5 speed as the donor, and what saved me lots of money, was using as much of it as possible. Started with a good running truck that didnt need anything, and used just about the whole dang thing. I even grafted in the radiator support, using the stock radiator hoses. I used the chevy steering column, and adapted it it in by using an chevy astro van steering joint, lengthend and welded back together. (astro van steering linkage has nice u joints and cost $12 from pick n pull), used the stock ford gas tank, repositioned slightly to fit, lengthened the chevy frame 5.1 inches, c notched, used full size chevy shortbed driveshaft, adapted body mounts to ford, made complete exaust from manifolds to rear bumper( bought bends and cut accordingly), rewired lights and ignition using universal switches from autozone, has S10 2 inch drop spindles, 3 inch drop springs, 4 inch blocks with 2 leaves removed, 4.3 V6 with Weber 40 IDF HP VW Carb adapted to chevy intake via my own adapter made out of vw swingplate and exaust tubing; it now drives <b>...</b>

I discovered other cars in this same price range that have better mileage on regular gas (the SmartCar uses premium), will seat 4 people, and have a better air-conditioner and smoother transmission. All that said, I will stick with my original statement that it is a fun car to drive, handles well even on the highway, is a cinch to park, still is a head-turner, and serves a certain market niche. I purchased my HHR Panel August '08 for a work vehicle. It is the perfect size for my videography business and is still easy to drive and gets good gas mileage. After I designed the wrap I wanted, I went looking for a sign shop which could take my design, add their own touch and wrap my HHR. Overall, it is a very nice car. It handles well, and returns very good gas mileage for a vehicle its size. The 2012 Dodge Avenger has some very nice features, like the stitched dash and door trims, complete;y electronically managed ignition, dash integrated information system and much more. There are strategically placed LED lights inside the Dodge Avenger - reminds you of the lighting in Aircraft cabins. The starter is not physically tied to the ignition switch. There is a whole bunch of electronic wizardry that mediates actions taken in the cabin of the car and what actually happens under the hood. You will notice a very slight delay from turning the key to having the motor actually turn over. Once the engine is running, you cannot mistakenly turn the key once more and re engage the starter - a nice fail safe future. The Engineers at Dodge did a good job with the engine. You can see it is right in the middle of the engine bay under the hood, giving ample room for mechanics doing maintenance on the car. So far, the three major problems I noticed were: - There is nothing to grab hold of when you want to open the trunk. Makes you wonder who would design such a good looking and high performance Dodge Avenger and forget to include a grab surface to help pull up the trunk. - Second, the windshield wiper stalk is too close to the steering wheel. Basically You build a 2x4 frame in the bed of the truck. A 1/2" (or 3/4" whatever you want. I have the 1/2" just to see if it would last) 4x8 sheet goes on top of that frame. The "ramp" needs to be a minimum thickness of a 3/4" 4x8 sheet that MUST BE REINFORCED with either 2x4's or 2x6's on the top side (to keep from bending/snapping in the middle if your sled stalls out and to keep you from driving off the edge when loading it). The "ramp" has a couple of eyelets in the corners. You use those eyelets for tie-downs to the truck to keep the ramp from sliding off the tail gate when you give the sled some gas. Once the sled is run up the ramp and is sitting on the 1/2" 4x8 sheet that is on top of the 2x4 frame in the bed of the truck, you unhook the tiedowns and grab the handle on the end (end on the ground) of the ramp and slide the ramp in under the 2x4 frame. You can have your sled loaded and the ramp put away in about 1 minute. Then you use the tie downs on the rear of your sled to secure it. I have $47 in receipts building this ramp. OK, Finally tuned up the Taurus. As I stated in my earlier video, the car has run on the original wires, plugs, fuel filter, trans filter, etc up to 182000+ miles! It started hesitating last week when if got a little warmer outside. Well, it was time for a complete tune up. The trans had also been shifting funny, kind of hunting around for gears, in and out of overdrive and stuff like that. I started out by checking out what transmission it had and also my plan of attack for getting the rear three spark plugs out. There is just no room even for my hand not to mention a wrench or socket! I gathered up my parts Friday for $120. This was for 6 Premium Autolite Platinum Plugs, Premium 8mm Wire Set, Tube of Sealing Grease, Transmission Filter and Gasket, 7 Quarts of Transmission Fluid, and a Fuel Filter. I started the job Friday after work. I pulling the plenum off after disconnecting the EGR valve, the air intake boot, and some wires and hoses. 6 small bolts and the intake lifted right off. Once out of the way, I started changing the plugs along the front of the engine and then the rear plugs. I put the old wires back on the plugs to change them later so as not to mix them up. I then changed the wires and transferred the heat collars from the old wires to the new wires. I finished that job in about two hours. That's all I did Friday.
