Maybe you create song topics which haven't been explored yet, or do it in a way that's completely different from anything that's been done before. Maybe you have good story-telling ability, and use a lot of imagery to make your rhymes vividly visual. Maybe your music has a good message, or some type of socio-political commentary. And then, of course, maybe you have good punchlines. Now, rappers that create good punchlines should definitely be respected as good rappers. It does take a degree of skill to conjure up really impressive metaphors and wordplay, and this should be recognized. However, I feel like out of all the different aspects of a rapper's music, this is the one aspect that is getting the most attention in today's world. It's almost to the point where every other aspect is being neglected in favor of coming up with witty punchlines. "Rapper's Delight" is a 1979 single by American hip-hop trio The Sugarhill Gang. While it was not the first single to feature rapping, it is generally considered to be the song that first popularized hip-hop in the United States and around the world.
