It's OK to shudder when you look at this picture of someone taking a wood screw to the Gorilla Glass screen of a Galaxy S smartphone. I did, too. When we reported that Samsung is using Gorilla Glass in their Galaxy S phones, a couple people wanted to see a demo -- you know, a key scratching against the glass or something of that sort. Enter those lovely, crazy Koreans. They certainly know how to do up video with style, and this one is no exception. Brace yourself for a smartphone snuff film after the break.

LIMITED TIME ONLY! Jasmine V App $1.99 mhlo.co www.mahalo.com How much more would you be willing to pay for a flat-screen TV with virtually unbreakable glass? That's the question posed by an Associated Press report in early-August 2010 that says the scratch-proof, dent-proof, ultra-thin and lightweight "Gorilla Glass" may soon be available in flat-screen televisions. Gorilla Glass is already available in more than 100 different devices, including smartphones and notebook computers - but it may soon be coming to your living room television as well. According to the AP report, Corning - Gorilla Glass's manufacturer - is ramping up production of its Gorilla Glass in anticipation of deals with TV manufacturers in coming months. Using Gorilla Glass in TVs could result in a frameless flat-screen that the AP says "could be mistaken for chic glass artwork on a living-room wall." Gorilla Glass was first developed by Corning in the early-1960s, but it didn't gain popularity until around 2008 - when it surfaced as a lightweight, protective covering for cell phones and other mobile devices. Some analysts have said if Gorilla Glass is added to televisions, Corning could have a "multibillion-dollar bonanza" on its hands. The addition of Gorilla Glass to TVs could be costly for consumers, adding between $30 and $60 to the price of a TV by some estimates. This video is pretty boring. If you see the first 30 seconds and read this description, you'll have all the information you need. Basically I take all this time to stutter what I'm writing down here. I bought my phone (Samsung Captivate, AT&T's version of Galaxy S) on January and have been using it ever since, but I was too lazy to put on the screen protector film I bought. After 8 months of use, this is what I got. I wasn't overly careful nor totally careless with it. On the last 6 months, I had my phone all the time inside one of those cheap silicon sleeves you can find on amazon, which GREATLY improved protection to the phone and also to the screen. using the sleeve, I've dropped it about a dozen times, all of them indoors (flat floors), from hips height or lower. Sometimes it landed with the screen facing the floor (which often had grains of sand and dirt), but the screen got away pretty much intact thanks to the silicon sleeve, because it also envolves the edges of the screen, forming some sort of cushioning which also kept the screen further away from the floor. I believe the scratches I've shown on the video were due to grains of sand on dirty fingers. Final considerations: By all means, use a silicon sleeve! Gorilla Glass WILL scratch, despite all its toughness, even if you're reasonably careful. If possible, put on a screen protector before even touching the screen for the first time. These screen protectores are terribly cheap and pretty much unnoticeable. After ...
