Graph Theory - An Introduction!

Graph Theory - An Introduction! In this video, I discuss some basic terminology and ideas for a graph: vertex set, edge set, cardinality, degree of a vertex, isomorphic graphs, adjacency lists, adjacency matrix, trees and circuits. There is a MISTAKE on the adjacency matrix; I put a 1 in the v5 row and v5 column, but it should be placed in the v5 row and the v6 column. There are annotations pointing this out along with the corrected matrix!

Misleading Graphs - YourTeacher.com - Algebra Help

For a complete lesson on misleading graphs, go to www.yourteacher.com - 1000+ online math lessons featuring a personal math teacher inside every lesson! In this lesson, students learn that there are many ways that a graph can be misleading, such as uneven scales, no labels on axes, and so on. Students are then asked to determine why a given graph is misleading, and answer questions comparing given graphs that display the same information in different ways.

Running Large Graph Algorithms: Evaluation of Current State-Of-the-Art and Lessons Learned

Google Tech Talk February 11, 2010 ABSTRACT Presented by Dr. Andy Yoo, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Graphs have gained a lot of attention in recent years and have been a focal point in many emerging disciplines such as web mining, computational biology, social network analysis, and national security, just to name a few. These so-called scale-free graphs in the real world have very complex structure and their sizes already have reached unprecedented scale. Furthermore, most of the popular graph algorithms are computationally very expensive, making scalable graph analysis even more challenging. To scale these graph algorithms, which have different run-time characteristics and resource requirements than traditional scientific and engineering applications, we may have to adopt vastly different computing techniques than the current state-of-art. In this talk, I will discuss some of the findings from our studies on the performance and scalability of graph algorithms on various computing environments at LLNL, hoping to shed some light on the challenges in scaling large graph algorithms. Andy Yoo is a computer scientist in the Center for Applied Scientific Computing (CASC). His current research interests are scalable graph algorithms, high performance computing, large-scale data management, and performance evaluation. He has worked on the large graph problems since 2004. In 2005, he developed a scalable graph search algorithm and demonstrated it by searching a graph ...

Graphs with Chris Dixon

Google Tech Talk February 16, 2011 Presented by Chris Dixon ABSTRACT It has become customary to use "graph" to refer to the underlying data structures at social networks like Facebook. (Computer scientists call the study of graphs "network theory," but on the web the word "network" is used to refer to the websites themselves). A graph consists of a set of nodes connected by edges. The original internet graph is the web itself, where webpages are nodes and links are edges. In social graphs, the nodes are people and the edges friendship. Edges are what mathematicians call relations. Graphs can be implicitly or explicitly created by users. Facebook and Twitter's graphs were explicitly created by users. At Hunch we've created what we call the taste graph. We created this implicitly from questions answered by users and other data sources. Our thesis is that for many activities -- for example deciding what movie to see or blouse to buy -- it's more useful to have the neighbors on your graph be people with similar tastes versus people who are your friends. I'll talk about the rising importance of these types of graphs, and dig deeper into some examples. Chris Dixon is the co-founder of Hunch and the Founder Collective and a personal investor in a number of early-stage technology companies. He lives and works in New York city. This Tech Talk was presented at one of the Google NYC Tech Talk Series. For more information, or to attend future events at the Google NYC Engineering ...
