GREMLINS FAN FILM - Gremlins 3 Warmup
This is the alternate fan sequence I made for the DVD version of the Gremlins 2 "film break" scene. I made it alone, in a two months period, with (computer-enhanced) puppets I re-created for this project. WATCH THE MAKING OF ON YOUTUBE !!! ————————————————— MORE INFO: WHAT IS IT? In the middle of the movie Gremlins 2, there is a sequence where the film seems to break, and where the gremlins invade the projection booth. For the VHS edition in the early 90's, they reshot a special sequence where the VHS tape seemed to be torn apart and in which the gremlins invaded a John Wayne movie. The DVD just kept the original theatrical version. This is the alternate sequence I made, supposed to replace the theatrical one on the DVD. HOW IS IT MADE? The creatures effects are all made with puppets. I made a new mold out of a hard cast of one of the original sculptures from the production. I created a batch of new foam puppets especially for this project. Their performances are enhanced by computer effects, which makes them able to do nearly anything, from running to jumping or facial expressions. The entire shooting takes place in a bluescreen studio, arranged in my basement, in order to superimpose the gremlins in the chosen movies. WHO AM I ? Gremlins main theme
Gremlins was a fantastic comedy film from 1984. Basically, a guy called Billy Peltzer picks up a new pet called Gizmo and after breaking a few rules he shouldn't have, ends up spawning a bunch of ugly creatures called Gremlins who proceed to terrorize the town. The film is a success because it succeeds at producing both a comedy and a horror in one go which can't be easy. Most comedy horror films are a joke (such as some of the Ghoulies films which emulated the Gremlins series) but Gremlins is both funny and scary. It's funny seeing the Gremlins cause mischief but it's also scary throughout-they're not exactly pretty creatures and are quite scary as well. Gremlins deserves a look from anyone interested in seeing a good comedy horror movie.

After a month off from making videos I decided to get to work once more. This time with a music video of 'Gremlins' (1984). This is one of my favorite movies ever, and great for the Christmas season. The movie is based on a script written by a young Chris Columbus who sold it to Steven Spielberg. The story was a lot darker back then, but when Spielberg asked Joe Dante to direct the project took a whole different turn. Dante discovered how funny the creatures could be and decided to make it a horror/comedy. 'Gremlins' is about an inventor named Randal Peltzer (Hoyt Axton) who buys his son Billy (Zach Galligan) a special gift for Christmas. A Mogwai called Gizmo. It comes with three simple rules; don't expose it to sunlight or it will die, don't get it wet and most importantly never feed it after midnight. Of course it is bound to go wrong and within days the town of Kingston Falls is overrun by little green monsters; Gremlins! The soundtrack was composed and conducted by the famed Jerry Goldmsith. This must be one of his most creative music ever, with the touching Gizmo theme, the quirky town theme and the memorable Gremlin Rag.
