Wanted to share what is a very special pistol. Given to me by my dad when I got on SWAT back in 2006, he used this gun back in the 90's while attending Gunsite courses and taught me the modern technique of the pistol with this very gun, when I was a youth. This gun has been through many recoil springs, hammer springs and has been re-blued once already. Much of the early work was done by Ted Yost of Gunsite back in 1992. Since then I have had some minor work done by Black Ops Precision. This "work" is usually just the hammer spring and a tune up. Still running. I may retire it from SWAT in order to preserve this pistol. I have been thinking of running my Glock 21 SF on SWAT rather than this heirloom. I promise that this gun out runs the Wilson and Nighthawk on our team. I am not degrading or slamming those great guns, just saying that I promise this gun runs on everything from Win-Clean to the Federal and Winchester Duty carry hollow point we use. It never jams or suffers feeding issues that were not directly attributed to a really damaged or bad magazine. (happened a couple times, the mag was thrown out). There have been Chip McCormick magazines that were given to me by the guys running Wilson and Nighthawk claiming that the Chip mag was "bad". I still run those and have not had an issue with these "bad" mags. Although I do prefer my Wilson magazines. This gun will rat-hole a target at 15-20 yards easy. TIGHT groups. I qualify with it to strict SWAT standards twice a year <b>...</b>

Here's a quick look at my Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle. I recently purchased a Leupold 2-7x33mm VX-1 Scope which are mounted with the Ruger rings provided. The iron sights were decent but really didn't do justice to match the .308 performance. Well, at least I'm not good enough with them to do it justice. I also felt that it was a bit difficult to obtain a proper sight picture & I tended to shoot way high. Eventually I hope to get the XS rail which will allow me to mount a traditional scope and keep the rear iron sight installed. I really don't dig the look of a forward mounted scout scope and again don't feel that they offer enough magnification to match the .308 performance. I have yet to take it out to the range in order to sight it in. Thus far I am very pleased with how well it mounted & the overal look of the rifle. I've purchased a couple 5 round magazines and have a couple 10 round magazines on back order. I hope to take it out hunting this year for dear and hog. It'll be my first time out, wish me luck.

I had to update my review of this rifle. I added a great Trijicon scope and bipod and have fallen in love with this combo. Sleek, short and light for all the equipment present.

Comparing the Ruger steel magazine for the RGS with the Alpha Industries Type II magazine. Nobody has shown how much easier the Alpha magazines are to load than the Ruger mags, so I decided to make a video demonstrating the two. While the Type II tends to be slightly more expensive than the Ruger steel magazine, depending on where you buy, its shorter length and MUCH easier loading makes it well worth it. If you don't want polymer magazines for your RGS then these are the ones to buy. I've shot plenty of ammo through both types and both are completely reliable.

This knife has been hammered through sub floor, laminated plank, Duroc, etc. it still stabs and still cuts. The lockup is still finctioning and very strong. It does require sharpening after hard use, but it holds an edge like nothing else I've owned. It's been an amazing little tool for me. If you are hard on knives then this is the knife for you. There is probably better out there, but not for this price.

Top Shot champion and 3-gun shooter Iain Harrison took his first run ever at Gunsite's infamous Scrambler course of fire. The Scrambler tests your accuracy, power and speed with engaging steel targets out to 75 yards from a variety of shooting positions. Iain's final time was the best of the day: 46 seconds.
