London-based artist Joe Hill is attempting to bring all the world records for 3D art back to the UK - where 3D art was first invented. Joe's colossal artwork, which will be on show at West India Quay in London's Docklands, will measure more than 1000m², which hehopes it will be enough to secure titles for Largest 3D painting and Longest 3D painting.

The farthest distance for a human fired from a cannon is 59.05 m (193 ft 8.8 in) by David Marvin Jr (USA) on the set of Lo Show Dei Record, in Milan, Italy, on 10 March 2011. David Marvin was launched by a 8 m (26 ft 2.95 in) long cannon. It was estimated that David Marvin Jr travelled at a speed of 120 km/h (74.56 mph), reaching a max altitude of 23 m (75 ft 5.51 in) from the ground. Several members of David's family are human cannonballs and perform stunts worldwide. The pneumatic cannon mechanism is a trade secret that belongs to the family. David landed on a 10 x 20 m (33 x 66 ft) large net suspended with poles at 6 m (20 ft) from the ground. The distance was measured from the hole of the cannon to the furthest point reached on the net. Probably the biggest of all the celebrations for the 175th anniversary since the formation of the Great Western Railway way back in 1835 and so the GWSR's yearly 'Cotswold Festival of Steam' took on this theme. Many firsts were made at the gala, including the first visit away from Didcot for 'Mogul' 5322 and the first public runs over Standway Viaduct since the line closed in 1976. It was also meant to be the eldest privately owned GWR loco's, 28xx number 2807, first return to traffic since leaving Barry Scrapyard, but sadly she failed testing prior to the event and will be staying on at Llangollen until she is fully ready to make a return to service. Sadly a landslip affected the running line south of Gotherington to Cheltenham Racecourse station, so all trains south of Winchcombe were operated in top and tail mode, although this allowed trains to start from a stop at Gotherington, making an amazing sound, due to the 7 coaches and a loco behind! On 27th March 2009, Ben Wallace (UK) achieved a backflip with a total height of 4.20m on theset of Guinness World Records Smashed at Pinewood Studios (UK). Guinness World Records officials Marco Frigatti and Kris Teufel adjudicated on the day. We decided to set a maximum height for the ramp (1.80m) and measure the height from the top of the ramp instead. 1.80m was the height of the ramp at GWR Smashed. The total height then had the ramp height deducted so the record then stood at 2.4 m. Ben has since travelled to China and in December 2010 he raised the bar even further for a current Guinness World Record of 2.80m. We're sure we haven't seen the last of him... The West Somerset Railway's Mixed Traction Gala once again recalled the classic modern traction of Diesel Hydraulics that reigned the Western Region of BR from the late 1950's to the late 1970's. The gala was dominated with a feast of Maybach music, it also marked the return of Class 52 Western D1010 Western Campaigner after a 3 year absence. The weather for the first two days of the gala was to be scorching hot but none the less beautifull. In this film is a full round up of all the Diesel Hydraulics filmed during Friday 11th to Saturday 12th June. From the Westerns, Warships to the Hymek and Class 14s. The Hymek was repainted into BR two-tone green as part of GWR 175. However the Hymek failed during the first day of the gala but was repaired for the next day. The moment we had been waiting for. But for many it had been a very long wait, 50 years since the last steam-hauled Cornish Riviera from Paddington to Penzance took place, history was to be made again. The Cornish Riviera itinery had two Western engines on the job, 6024 King Edward I and 5029 Nunney Castle the appropriate pairing for this run. 6024 hauled the run from Paddington to Exeter and would pair up with 5029. Unfortunatly right from the start problems occured. 6024 had steaming problems, along with a fire breaking out in one of the coaches at Newbury resulting in delays. D1015 Western Champion was summond to tow the King and its train from Taunton to Exeter. After Exeter the pair make up the rest of their journey. The return working two days later was to be more better with little problems occuring. Despite the longest railtour journey either loco had ever made. The weather played a major part in this event by helping us give full sun. This run was to be the biggest, longest, more challenging, and by far the most expensive to get. More difficult to get than the Great Britain 3 run. But was determined to catch as much of this run as possible without haste. Ironically this film marks the 100 film I made so far. The record to beat was set by Vipin Seth (India) who was covered by a mantle of bees weighing 61.4 kg (136 lb 4 oz). It was calculated that 613500 bees comprised the mantle. Here is the coal fired GWR Pannier tank, built to the LBSC "Pansy" design in 5" gauge. It was filmed on the private Ashdown railway line in Somerset in August 2007. Conditions were damp so some slipping!
