We've build a few Hackintoshes at Lifehacker, but we generally go for the more powerful, Mac Pro-esque builds. This time we've decided to build a smaller, cheaper Hackintosh that's about the size of a NAS and costs less than $600. This video is part of a larger article that will walk you through the full process, which you can find here: lifehacker.com This system configuration is based on one by tonymacx86 (visit tonymacx86.com), and the ease of creating a Hackintosh these days is very much due to his efforts. Thanks tonymacx86!

Hackintosh Tutorial: OS X Lion Installation / Upgrade Hardware Used: Intel 2500k Sandy Bridge Core i5 Gigabyte Z68X UD3H B3 Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 1GB Scythe Shuriken B Cooler Western Digital 1TB HDD 7200 RPM Antec 650W PSU 12GB DDR3 1333 MHZ RAM Generic Bluetooth USB Dongle Logitech MX518 In this tutorial, I explain how to pick the right hardware for a hackintosh system. I then demonstrate how to install OS X: First, I install OS X Snow Leopard, then carefully upgrade and patch it to its latest version. Next, I install OS X Lion and upgrade to its latest version. During the installation I use files from tonymacx86.com including iBoot, MultiBeast, Bridge Helper and DSDT patch. After a successful installation, I make a clone of the hard disk with Carbon Copy Cloner. Then, I attempt to overclock my unlocked CPU in Gigabyte's BIOS and run Geekbench in OS X to confirm the performance boost. Afterwards, I talk a little about using the integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics. This tutorial is suitable for anyone who is considering building a hackintosh PC, but would like to see the process unfold in a step-by-step fashion. Although this installation guide goes over many details, it does gloss over a few parts. Visit Tonymacx86.com to get more information on building a hackintosh and installing OS X Lion.

This is OSx86 BASICS tutorial, it's meant for absolute beginners who wish to enter the "Hackintosh" world. For advanced info refer to insanelymac(dot)com and OSx86Wiki. There are other ways to install retail OS X on non Apple hardware. This tutorial should be good enough for average tech geek to install OSX on non Apple PC. Please, refer to OSx86 Wiki and other OSx86 forums for additional info and CHECK IF YOUR HARDWARE IS COMPATIBLE with this distro or OSx86 in general in HCL (Hardware Compatibility List). Main components that must be compatible are Motherboard chipset and CPU. You can download additional drivers, but there is no guarantee they exist, especially if you use non common hardware devices. This distro is primarily aimed at custom built desktop PCs, but it does work with laptops and branded PCs if they are compatible, although you have to be lucky to have the right hardware. One more thing I forgot to mention in this video is that you'll need at least 6GB of free HDD space, 1GB of RAM, SSE2 or SSE3 CPU and graphics card that supports openGL 2.0 (ATI x1300 and later, and nvidia 6300 and later, the ATI x1200 and nvidia x100 and x200 chips are not supported and will work only in "graphics safe mode"). *ATI x1200 is supported now if you download additional drivers from kexts(dot)com *nVidia 6100, 61xx, 7100 and 71xx are supported now via EFI studio app (similar to OSx86Tools, just add generated EFI string to your boot.plist) This tutorial is made for educational ...

Part 2-4 Hello, Today I am going to be showing you a new Hackintosh I have been working on. This Hackintosh features a Intel Core i5 2500K, which is the newest of Sandy Bridge Core i5 processors. The new architecture is very, very fast! Along with that processor, I have 4GB of 1333MHz Ram and a Gigabyte motherboard. The reason I chose the Gigabyte motherboard is that it is compatible with Kakewalk. Kakewalk is a very cool boot-loader/post-installation utility which comes with pre-edited DSDT's and Kexts. The case and power supply is ones from an old Compaq computer I had running a AMD processor. As you see in Part 2, I spray-painted the case to a glossy black and it made it look WAY better. I also spray-painted the power supply black. It made it feel like a new case. The HDD I'm using is a 2.5" WD Caviar Black from a broken MacBook Pro. It all works pretty good so far and the machine is very fast! Can't wait to get some SSD's and more ram! As far as graphics go, I'm using the Intel HD3000 which is built onto the die now in the newer Sandy Bridge processors. The Intel HD3000 was pretty hard to get full acceleration going and what not. Took many forums to figure that one out. I'm also having trouble with sound, but I think I'll figure it out soon. I might just end up getting am external sound card and graphics card because the HD3000 currently doesn't support dual monitors on Mac OS X trough a Hackintosh.. :/ Stayed tune for part 3-4! Thanks for watching, Chargerfun34

Hello, Today I am doing a performance test of an Intel Core i5 2500K, I did no overlocking to the processor so this is all stock performance. I have it paired with a PNY 9800GT 1GB, 4GB 1333Mhz Kingston Ram, 320GB 2.5" WD Caviar Black HDD(from an laptop that broke), a older 200GB 3.5" HDD, and Gigabyte GA-H67m-D2-B3 Motherboard. In this video I am running Lion 10.7.1 and the install method I used was Kakewalk 4.1. (Sorry that it only plays through one speaker I didn't realize it did that until it uploaded there was a problem with the audio the way I exported it in Final Cut Pro X exporting it in with the surround option makes it play in only one channel.)
