Hakka language

A short introduction to the Hakka language as spoken by the Chinese minority in East Timor "Director: João Paulo Esperança; Camera-woman: Adriana Gesteiro; Actresses/Informers: Lolita Lay Jong & Leonita Lay Jong (alias Añafa & Añufa)" It is not the guy (me) who's Hakka, it's the two girls. I'm speaking Portuguese, they're speaking Hakka. The Scots, the English, the Irish, a part of the Indians, the Australians, the Americans, they all speak English with different accents and some words are used only in specific places. Hakka as spoken in Taiwan is not exactly the same as in RPC in Moyen (Mexian) or in Dabu. The East Timorese Hakka Chinese came from different parts of mainland China and use loanwords from local languages too.

Hakka speaking Hong Kong Actors

Hakka (traditional Chinese: 客家話; simplified Chinese: 客家话; pinyin: Kèjiāhuà; Hakka: Hak-kâ-fa) is one of the main subdivisions of the Chinese language spoken predominantly in southern China by the Hakka ethnic group and descendants in diaspora throughout East and Southeast Asia and around the world. Due to its usage in scattered isolated regions where communication is limited to the local area, the Hakka language has developed numerous variants or dialects, spoken in Guangdong, Fujian, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Sichuan, Hunan, Guizhou provinces, including Hainan island and Taiwan. Hakka is not mutually intelligible with Mandarin, Cantonese, Minnan and most of the significant spoken variants of the Chinese language. There is a pronunciation difference between Taiwanese Hakka dialect and Guangdong Hakka dialect. Amongst the dialects of Hakka, the Moi-yen/Moi-yan (梅縣, Pinyin: Méixiàn) dialect of northeast Guangdong has typically been viewed as a prime example of the Hakka language, forming a sort of standard dialect. The Guangdong Provincial Education Department created an official romanisation of Meixian Hakka dialect in 1960, one of four languages receiving this status in Guangdong. The name of the Hakka people who are the predominant original native speakers of the language literally means "guest families" or "guest people": Hak 客(Mandarin: kè) means "guest", and ka 家(Mandarin: jīa) means "family". Amongst themselves, Hakka people variously called their language Hak-ka-fa ...
Learn Basic Hakka Chinese - Moiyan Dialect - Part 1

Here is the first video of my 'Learn Basic Hakka Chinese' video series. I hope you'll enjoy these videos! It was not my initial intent to make more than one part but seeing as people are asking for me to make more parts, I have done so! Here's part 2 - there's a system in place now, and trust me, the videos are better! I hope you'll agree! If you just want to learn some quick phrases please head to part 5! Part 2 is more of a noun "bank" for words. Part 2: www.youtube.com Background Info: Just a reminder this is for the Guangdong Hakka dialect otherwise known as the Moiyan hakka dialect which is the prime example of the hakka language. Pardon me but I do not know how to speak the other hakka dialects. This is pretty much a test; I personally don't think this lesson was well done at all and I think this video reflects it. I don't think I explained things thoroughly enough and should have dragged out each slide longer on windows movie maker; which would have given me more narrating time :) notes: Some of the phonetics are wrong; for example, "zou" and "joh"

Slug) "We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams, come along" [Chorus] Nothing Less, nothing less [Grouch] Well I bet you that I get the last laugh Bet you that my funerals packed And the tune you all blast is my crew's shit New shit or old it don't matter Bold I get swole in the zone where you gather I'm alone but together with the folks Not really knowing where I'm going But my goal's to provoke thoughts Devote lots, show some fools the ropes to hop Scope the top from above it Love it, then leave it alone I believe that I'm grown showing the way Owing the bay for going astray, now I'm blowing away Like that bag in American Beauty Truly blessed and nothing less [MURS] I'm nothing less than a criminal With minimal convictions Serving up my customers a hustler of the diction Crushing my afflictions, I'm sick in the mind Depends on how you ask And I can do anything depending on the task I tend to be on blast more often than not Between a rock and a hard place I soften my spot, talking a lot That's if my CD's get played But if that's not the case then I had nothing to say My crew been tight since we was up in the bay Been down for a while, now watch us As we take it, up and away Something to play when you're laying on back Felt the love when I wrote this So I know y'all feel what I'm saying on tracks [Chorus x3] [Slug] The first ...

Hong Kong 17 - Cheun Cheung Kui Hakka Cuisine 泉章居

The Hakka 客家people are my nomadic ancestors, and their cuisine makes heavy use of pork, preserved vegetables, and dried seafood. Cheun Cheung Kui restaurant occupies the 7th and 8th floors of a large, tall, narrow mall and to get there Max and myself had to make our way through a vertical labyrinth of stairs, escalators and elevators, none of which, apparently, services every floor. I set off a burglar alarm in the process. We were richly rewarded with a delicious feast of black pepper beef short ribs 黑椒牛排骨, as well as three classically Hakka dishes: salt-baked chicken 東江鹽焗雞, a dish my great-aunt used to make, braised tofu stuffed with pork 釀豆腐, and our mutual favorite, pork belly with preserved mustard greens 扣肉. The last was melt-in-your mouth tender and decadently rich, with the sweetness of the fatty pork belly punctuated with the salty, earthy pickled greens. Possibly our favorite restaurant in Hong Kong so far.

Hakka Round Houses Village- Fujian, China

This is a very interesting part of China in Fujian province where the Hakka people live communally in huge round houses. It is about a 5 hour drive from Xiamen. I filmed this with a tiny Cannon camera with my buddy Brian. Many people don't realize that most of China is still rural.

Hakka Pop Song: Wandering (流浪)

Hakka pop song sung by Taiwanese indie rock group Shengun Yuetuan (神棍樂團). A song expressing the feelings of what it is like wandering and roaming about in all your life, a song that touches on Daoism philosophy. Is your life like that of Daoist philosopher such as ZhuangZi? Taiwanese indie rock group Shengun Yuetuan (神棍樂團)'s music tends to slide towards Chinese philosophical and religious content. With a combination of the use of Chinese religious instruments, they also blend it with modern pop musical style.
