SC2 Halby #19 TvZ: Uber-Ups vs #1 zerg in division Game_2

Opponent is #1 in division, this is our second game in a row, i used exact same build, so she knows whats coming, she just beat it a second ago, lets see what she does. Because of a request, here's the build: @before 2:20, engy block @before 3:00 wallin (6pool) @at 4:30 send out your harassers (i prefer 6 marines, nick prefers less marines + a bunker) start your command center, and get 2 refineries. @before 5:00 harass with the marines and maybe a bunker (lets you see if he's going roaches/banelings) @at 6:00 survive a 7roach push or baneling bust, get double engy bay, and +1/+1 started, then get techlab/reactor on your double rax, and start your factory @when 1/1 finishes, get 2+ bunkers to cover your expo/main, and move your CC down to your expo. start 2/2 as fast as u can, and start working on a total of 7 rax, 1 fact, 1 starport @before 10min: get 3 turrets, one at each base, and 1 to cover the addons you've built for your production facilities. @13min (when 2/2 finishes) congratulations you survived to the late game, start 3/3. produce mass marines, a smattering of thor/medivac... attack in small waves at multiple locations, always spread your stuff out, aoe is your enemy. get your planetary fortress up. when your main runs dry, float the CC to a 4th. rely heavily on bunker/turrets to make u feel safe enough to continue harassing nonstop. There's a precarious balance involved in when you begin your harass... up til about 14 minutes, your army is smaller than it would ...

SC2 Halby #24: TvT Master's League.

I don't really know how to name these games.. cuz basically every TvT i play from now on is gonna be TvT and SC2 and Master's League... so it's not a very descriptive name... but if i name the vids based on what happened, it kinda gives away waht happened.. not that it's really a freaking mystery? i think i should just name them after what happened THATS WHAT I THINK! I'm hoping that due to the creation of the master's league, we can now assume anyone in that league is at least good.. whereas before there was a big diff in skill lvl btw 500 diamond and 3000 diamond, i dunno if same will be true in master's league... The problem with naming things based on the rank of the ppl in the vid, as i have been doing, is that rested bonus causes point-inflation... so, for example someone who is 50% win/loss, will constantly go up in points by a small ammt each day, due to rested bonus. If you watch sc2ranks, the #1 on the ladder climbed, once upon a time 1000 diamond was like top end folkum, now its like 4k diamond... i'm sure inflation will not change, so # of points is meaningless over a time period of longer than a few weeks... i could give the persons world-rank but then it'd be #s like 5354 or something, and that just doesn't sound very impressive :P

My opponent and I are both master's league, I started 2rax bunker pressure into super fast CC, and he started ling speed first, which is the safe way to handle bunker pressure, but it sacrifices the economic edge that zerg desperately rely upon in the late game. still once you have a reasonable ammt of speedlings, you can safely sit behind them and drone up. Despite the 2 typical openers, the game quickly jumped off the typical track.

SC2 Halby Tips #18: Ghosts

www.youtube.com I already made a tip saying that the best way to use ghosts when you are caught by surprise, is to hold r, and click like a mad man, and that hasn't changed, i just wanted to make another video displaying a few caveats, like: if you are capable of clicking 5x/second, making more than 5 ghosts is a waste, because they wont be used... and ghosts are the best $/supply unit ever, but are kinda crap per $... making them great when you are almost maxed, but terrible in other circumstances... also showing the shift-queing of snipe can allow someone with only 8 clicks/second to efficiently use more than 8 ghosts... but the pitfalls of this method... also showing how the hold fire option can effect ghosts, and that ghosts... just more general stuff about ghosts yo :P

To ask "what if he gets colossus" is to miss the point. We are here to improve, not to win. If you lose a game where you made only marines, then go to the resources graph on the score screen, and see yourself pulling down 3x your opponents $$, you can say to yourself "holy crap, if those had been real units instead of marines, I'd dominate!" The reason we do the drill with marines, is that it simplifies our macro so that we can get a feel for how much money we can get, best case.

SC2 Halby Tips #20: benchmarking non-standard timings

This is a tack-on to the general build benchmarking vid: www.youtube.com Hey I've talked alot about the 10 minute or 6 mintue benchmark, but what if you had a big battle at 16 minutes? subtract that army size from a known benchmark, then divide by the # of minutes in btw the two, and see how you did... you should generally shoot for 750 or higher, though with a good 2base all-in it can be more like 1100.

SC2 Halby #554 TvT 'survive til 4th medivac' the style of current popularity and awesomeness

Youtube is my home, jtv is a tool I use to record videos for youtube. It reduces the 2 step (record, upload) process to a single step, and it allows me to take questions live from viewers which I find cool and fun. But my intention is to delete vods off of jtv as I upload them, and I'd prefer if everyone who is not watching live, watch on youtube. Why do I prefer youtube? 1) I get $ when you click ads on youtube, jtv only gives $ to partners 2) Youtube lets you pick your resolution 3) I tend to record many vods at once, but upload them 1 per day, I find that when I subscribe to something, and I get 1 per day, I tend to watch 1 per day, and it's cool, but when something puts out too much content, or too much content in a giant burst, I look at it and say 'I do not have time right now to watch 20 things' so i put it on my list of things to do later, but then it just stays on that list and I never watch. Releasing 1 video per day is the way to be, and recording 20 on jtv then uploading 1 at a time, allows me to do that :) 4) youtube's subscriber function works better than jtv 5) youtube's player is better than jtv's 6) youtube's archived video search/display/list is better than jtv's 7) I personally just prefer watching youtube than jtv, and I always try to gear my casts toward what I personally like, since I can't read minds and taking suggestions has a selection bias. If you want to watch live: 1)be forewarned, I stream at 2Mbps so if you don't have at least that much ...

SC2 Halby #515 TvP blabcast 2-1-1 vs FE high sentry count 2 halby mistakes.avi

I've been asked a bunch of times (by sneaky protoss) what i lose to when i do these pushes, this is an example...I according to sc2gears i'm 90% win rate in TvP for the last 2 months, so i don't lose often, and when I do lose, it is always because I made an obvious and huge mistake (in this game, not waiting for siege mode mixed with some smaller mistakes) This is something i mock nick for doing all the time, I went at 8 minutes, i should have waited for 10... i arrived with no siege mode, and unsieged tanks and no banshees means i can't kill his sentries, the whole point in the rule '3 tech units to deal with his sentries' is to deal with his sentries :P unsieged tanks do not achieve that goal, so i should have waited 15 seconds for siege mode.

SC2 Halby #122 TvT: macro vs micro, econ vs harass, gortex vs wool

In this, like so many other SC2 TvT matchups, I go for my usual slowass plodding "i'm gonna out-mine you" strategy, while my opponent goes for the hyperactive high apm crazy "i'm going to do a bainshee harass at the same time as an m&m drop at the same time as i push your expo!". If we were playing shogun total war, or myth, or some other game where both players get the same ammt of $ and 1 army and no reinforcements, this guy would totally dominate me... he is several times better than me at USING his army, but unfortunately sc2 isn't ONLY about how good you can micro ;)

Tank/viking play relies upon slow-pushing tanks with air superiority granting superior range... without air superiority, you can't slow-push, you have to make a snap-decision as to when you will get the best positional advantage, and just go for it.

SC2 Halby Tip #9 - Terran Build Benchmarking and dps/cost

Feel free to skip the vid and just go to the spreadsheets, they are pretty self explanatory :) Remember to file menu make a copy of the spreadsheet so you can input your own numbers, this is just a simple tool to make analyzing your own games easier. SC2 DPS/Cost: spreadsheets0.google.com terran openers: spreadsheets.google.com I've done all my prior videos with FRAPS but I'm experimenting with VH capture because both destiny and day9 recommended it... This video was encoded with VH capture, using the x264vfw endoder codec from freecodecs.com, the settings i used were preset: ultrafast (I found that using any other setting here causes youtube to RUIN the picture when you upload it) tuning: none profile:baseline level:4.1 (I found that using 5.1 or 1.1 both mess with youtube, they create good local video files, but then youtube ruins it once it's uploaded) fast_decode=ON zero latency=ON rate control = single pass (ABR) bitrate selected = 10000 (again, for some reason selecting a lower bitrate messes with youtube, while using a higher bitrate doesn't seem to help at all) Output Mode: VFW h265 (lower case h) root-destiny.com

SC2 Halby #513 TvP blabcast 7 minute expo shakuras vs safe-toss.avi

Co-Casting those tourney games really gave me a lot more respect for nick's build, so I've been using it on the ladder. Cutting workers for an expo is a strange bag, and i've made fun of protosses for doing it in the past, but it's really so tempting :) since 3-1-2012 nick: TvP 73% TvT 37% TvZ 58% freewins: TvP 91% TvT 62% TvZ 53% halby: TvP 87% TvT 40% TvZ 33% So maybe I shouldn't be emulating nick's TvP since mine has been consistantly better for ever :P but it's still good enough to be worth wanting to get familiar with :) also: APM In games longer than 11 minutes: APM nick: 110 APM ben: 75 Also I have a 100% win rate btw 3 and 6 pm, and nick has a 75% win rate btw 3 and 6 pm EST... apparently that's when all the high schoolers log on?
