Playing on the dulcimer is John Hawk of Franklin, North Carolina, and on the limberjack is George Haggerty of Jacksonville, Vermont. They are selling their handmade wares at the 2011 Central Florida Dulcimer & Autoharp Festival, February 11 and 12 in Sorrento, Florida. This was the 6th year for the festival, and it hosted 72 Workshops, including: mountain and hammered dulcimers, autoharp, bowed psaltery, tin whistle and the musical saw. Learn more on the website: www.fldulcimer.com Of note is the "limberjack" - known variously as a jig doll, slapjack, jiggerman, limberjim, limberjill, dancin' dan, paddle puppet and yankee-doodle dancer - it's a wooden musical instrument which consists of a doll with loose joints on the end of a long stick. The musician makes the legs tap rhythmically on a thin wooden board as if clogging. It is particularly popular in the US region of Appalachia. Limberjacks probably originated in Ireland several hundred years ago. They imitated the clog dancers who jigged noisily to music in their hob-nailed boots. They were carried to America by early settlers who enjoyed hand-carved toys for their families' amusement. You can see one being played in the film "My Side of the Mountain." In this video, Mr. Haggerty of Vermont hand-crafted the instrument himself using only his right foot and a borrowed lathe.

My Medium is Leather and my forte is carving and tooling original works of art. I grew up in North Carolina, my father, from Oklahoma, and my mother from Upper New York State, were huge influences in my continuing education and choice of vocation. I began tooling leather in 1967. Leather is an extremely versatile medium and through the past 40 years, I've done it all. In the 1970's, I opened a leather shop where I created belts, sandals, bags, repair work, restored antiques, classic cars; anything and everything. Designing and tooling leather was always my strong suit, so in the 80's and 90's, I entered and won every major national and international leather competition available. In the early 90's, I began working with Falconhead Boot Co. in Los Angeles and from then until the present, I design and tool one-of-a-kind cowboy boots for movie starts and other famous people. Of course, one trip to Taos was enough to se my sights on the Southwest. In 1997, I married the love of my life, Donna and in 2002 moved to Taos to pursue my apparent job in life - to educate and elevate the medium of leather carving to a fine art status. I've always happily engaged myself in exhaustive studies of indigenous cultures - Japanese, Chinese, Mayan, Egyptian, and especially Native American - predominately their art forms, lifestyle and religion. For subject matter, I find myself drawn to common connective aspects of life fostered by family and spirituality, the very essence of humanity. This ...

Plain willow-wood Dutch clogs, for everyday use Making a wooden shoe is real craftsmanship. It starts with a block of wood which is carved by hand into the desired model. Nose, heel, beak and sole have to be equal in size and identical for both wooden shoes. The finishing touch is smoothing the outside surface, which can be done in traditional colours or a requested design. Wooden shoes - or clogs - are often filled with straw to keep your feet warm. © www.stockshot.nl

Hand-made sandals, inspired by my last trip to Sevilla in the summer of 2004. All of the women were wearing them. Very simple and beautiful. No boots, no birkenstocks, no sneakers, no wingtips,.....no tattoos, no fake boobs, little or no make-up, no gaudy "bling-bling", no $200 jeans from Neiman-Marcus, etc., etc. You catch my drift. Passenger - Life's For The Living From the album "All The Little Lights" available on: itunes.apple.com Lyrics: Well grey clouds wrapped round the town like elastic Cars stood like toys made of Taiwanese plastic The boy laughed at the spastic dancing round in the rain While laundrettes cleaned clothes, high heals rubbed toes Puddles splashed huddles of bus stop crows Dressed in their suits and their boots well they all look the same I took myself down to the cafe to find all the boys lost in books And crackling vinyl And carved out a poem above the urinal that read Don't you cry for the lost Smile for the living Get what you need and give what you'r given Life's for the living so live it Or you're better of dead While the evening pulled the moon out of its packet Stars shone like buttons on an old man's jacket We needed a nail but wetacked it 'til it fell off the wall While pigeon's pecked trains, sparks flew like planes The rain showed the rainbows in the oil stains And we all had new iPhones but no one had no one to call And i stumbled down to the stomach of the town Where the widow takes memories to slowly drown With a hand to the sky and a mist in her eye she said Don't you cry for the lost Smile for the living Get what you need and give what you'r given Life's for the living so live it Or you're better of dead Well i'm sick of this town, this blind man's forage They take your dreams down and stick them in storage You can have them back son when you've paid off your ...

Jethro Tull - Hunting Girl - Hippodrome, London - 1977. Hunting Girl (Songs From The Wood 1976) One day i walked the road and crossed a field To go by where the hounds ran hard. And on the master raced: behind the hunters chased To where the path was barred. One fine young lady's horse refused the fence to clear. I unlocked the gate but she did wait until the pack had disappeared. Crop handle carved in bone; Sat high upon a throne of finest english leather. The queen of all the pack, This joker raised his hat and talked about the weather. All should be warned about this high born hunting girl. She took this simple man's downfall in hand; I raised the flag that she unfurled. Boot leather flashing and spurnecks the size of my thumb. This highborn hunter had tastes as strange as they come. Unbridled passion: i took the bit in my teeth. Her standing over --- me on my knees underneath. My lady, be discrete. I must get to my feet and go back to the farm. Whilst i appreciate you are no deviate, I might come to some harm. I'm not inclined to acts refined, if that's how it goes. Oh, high born hunting girl, I'm just a normal low born so and so.

As it floats on high Do you want to know why? Like the fish in the deep blue see Like an eagle in a clear blue sky I've got no time to wonder why I've got a gun in my pocket and a knife in my hand I'm one hell of a man I'm ten feet tall, I've lived a thousand years I've got nothing to hope for and nothing to teer I carved a path from here to there, end then I Vanished into thin air I took the big plunge and I won the big ...

45+ comments! I'm glad ya'll like this! ----- The bright yellow sun gleamed off the tall buildings and into my apartment room. My eyes cracked open from under my thick fluffy covers. My face felt puffy and red from crying last night. Moving my eyes to the right, I saw that it was 6:30AM. I rolled my chocolate eyes, knowing that I forgot to turn off my alarm, therefore, losing the sleeping in time that I was looking forward to. I decided to jump in the shower and get all ready. After my warm, soothing, shower, I got dressed into dark jeans with a grey cardigan. I pulled on my boots and headed out the door. I ended up walking down to Central Park. The wind blew gently across my face, making me slightly shiver. A bird's chirp was heard in the distance, faintly. The grass below was covered with a slight coating of dew that sparkled in the faint sunlight. I kept walking through the park, not a soul in sight. Breathing out a ghostly breath, I saw the big sycamore tree ahead of me. The branches of the huge tree panned out, the leaves dangling off of it. I approached it hesitantly, the memories flooding back of the last time I was here. My hand reached up and touched the carving in the tree. It was old and imprinted into the tree forever. I had to close my eyes to stiffle my tears. My eyes fluttered back open as my eyes glued back to the carving. The carving that Cameron carved for us after he had proposed. Closing my eyes once again, I turned around and slid to the ground ...

Seven-up Bath fizz against Warriors South African flanker Francois Louw scored on his debut as Bath made it two wins from two in the LV= Cup with a 46-13 thrashing of Worcester. Share The all-Aviva Premiership clash saw the home side run in seven tries at the Rec, fly-half Tom Heathcote touching down while also kicking four conversions and a penalty. As well as Louw, Bath also gave a first start to Samoa prop Anthony Perenise, a tryscorer off the bench in the 46-16 rout of Newport Gwent Dragons last weekend. Heathcote put the home side ahead with a penalty after seven minutes but they infringed at the restart and Joe Carlisle replied with a 40-metre effort from a difficult angle. Worcester strung together some impressive phases after drawing level, and a nicely-judged Carlisle pass set wing Josh Drauniniu free on the left but Dan Hipkiss was back to make the tackle. However a penalty followed soon after, allowing Carlisle to boot the Warriors in front. Bath hit back immediately when Ollie Woodburn offloaded to Heathcote, who raced in from 40 metres. The fly-half also added the conversion, putting Bath 10-6 ahead. They went further clear on 25 minutes as new recruit Louw finished off a couple of strong drives by Ryan Caldwell and Nathan Catt, who then also had a hand in his team's next try. The loosehead prop showed tremendous pace for a front rower, allowing him to collect a ricocheted kick on his own 10 metre line and launch a counter-attack from deep. The ball passed ...

A big thanks first of all to guineapigdan for volunteering to illustrate this and a mighty fine job he did. Next, thanks to all of the lyrical contributions and if I overlooked anyone in the credits, let me know. I went back 3 months looking in msgs and may have overlooked someone. Here are the lyrics. Enjoy! Twas the night before Armageddon and all through the house Every creature was celebrating, even the mouse. Autographed pictures of televangelists hung By the chimney while dreary end times songs were sung. "It's the end, it's the end!" Tapley cried out with glee, As he banged on his keyboard and sang out of key. He put his own lyrics to old Christmas tunes But what did he care? T'would all be over soon. The night sky seethed with mysterious form Apparently brewing one hell of a storm. Mr. Tapley sang louder, his face turning red While visions of antichrist danced in his head. "It's prophesied!" Tapley sang out with joy While banging the keys of his musical toy. Then he switched off his synth, his singing complete And lit a few candles and then took a seat. He opened his bible and unzipped his pants. His eyes were now shut as if under some trance. Suddenly he engaged in frantic masturbation With his bible propped open to the book of Revelation! With a hand on his rod and a thumb up his rear, Mr. Tapley could tell that the end was quite near. So he searched through the scriptures by dim candle light And throttled his poultry on into the night. When outside the house ...
