Thankfully the glider absorbed all of the impact and I walked away without even a bruise - well, only to my pride; and wallet. This is what you call a "sub-optimal" landing. March 27, 2012, Supine Hang Gliding is revisted. Comfortable paragliding harnesses can be used with hang gliders allowing for relaxing long flights and NO PAIN. Old farts can now rejoice and dust off their old hang glider that was put away when flying in prone simply became too hard. This year was my second competition in the Corryong Cup and just as much fun as the last one. The competition is very popular due to its feel-good factor, with over 70 competition pilots coming from all over Australia, to compete (in a friendly way) but mainly to share in the spirit of the event and their common passion for flying. The 70 places filled within 18 hours of the competition being opened! Each morning the pilots would assemble at the local pub for an initial weather briefing and recap of the previous day, with recognition of the achievements of the pilots and the generous support pilots were giving each other and a bit of light-hearted humour. This was then followed by a briefing on the mountain launch later in the day where the flying course for the day would be decided by the Task Committee along with the launch order. There was always good buzz on the hill each day with pilots busily set-up in anticipation of more great flying, plenty of camaraderie, and chilling-out waiting for conditions to come on and everyone to get off the hill. Though I didn't come close to winning any of the daily flying tasks I had a ball the entire week and made a few PBs. Our KGB Team appreciated our driver Connor being on hand to carry gear, pick us up from local famer's paddocks and having a cold beer on hand at the end of the day! There was great flying by everyone and this video captures just a small part of it! Thanks to all the Committee members, volunteers, Stuie for safely <b>...</b>

These are some of the launches (and break-offs and landings) from several days of the 2012 Rob Kells Memorial Hang Gliding Competition held at the Florida Ridge Air Sports Park. This two-part video will give you a good idea of how several experienced aerotow pilots and ground grew all worked together with world class glider pilots to get all the gliders in the air . . . at the same time . . . including relaunches for those who couldn't stay in the air long enough to start the cross-country task for the day . . . all with no real injuries. A sweet NE blowing into Long Reef brought out a range of paragliders and hang glider pilots to enjoy the beautiful day and catching up with mates on launch. This video is the compilation of two flights, the first being short as I couldn't get prone because the foot rest wasn't accessible. During the second flight I ended up with the whole site to myself and had a ball working the whole site and the lift in the bowl. Thanks to my very helpful ground crew too...how lucky am I :-) after the flight went for a cool off dip at a local beach and a picnic, a cold one at the other local, and then to the gym to have a game of squash with mates. What an amazing day!
