Cooler Master HAF-X Video Review

Get the best price on the Cooler Master HAF X! Compare Prices at: Canada: hardwarecanucks.pricecanada.com USA: hardwarecanucks.pgpartner.com UK: hardwarecanucks.pgpartner.co.uk Building off the successful design of the HAF 932, the latest addition to Cooler Master's High Air Flow series is the HAF-X. The case brings with it an updated design that is centred around an industrial, heavy machinery-style concept and it looks to redefine itself as a performance oriented leader. The company has listened to feedback from consumers and included much needed changes such as a black interior, dust filters and expanded airflow design. Cooler Master also wants to improve the experience for system builders with excellent cable management and an easy tool-less drive bay design (for the most part). One of the most notable features about this case is its ability to support virtually every consumer level piece of hardware available. From enormous Cooler Master air coolers, to oversized ATI video cards and even motherboards based on non industry supported dimensions like XL-ATX, this case does it all. The HAF-X is also one of the most feature rich cases available on the market with unique additions specifically tuned for better cooling and easier use. The best part is, that it ultimately leaves the finished layout completely up to the end user. It allows for the convenience of hot swappable drive bays that don't completely sacrifice 5.25" slots and still includes plenty of internal options ...

Lancool Dragonlord PC-K62 Product Showcase

Lancool is a relatively new manufacturer name to the market, but they are definitely not new to cases. Spawned from the brilliant minds at Lian-Li, the Dragonlord K series chassis takes what makes Lian-Li's chassis so sought after, and design an enclosure that fits a more modest budget. The reduced price does not sacrifice on quality however. Constructed of solid steel the PC-K62 features a 100% tool-less design that makes working with the case a "snap" and it strives to fix the frequent messy cabling issues that often plague bottom mounted power supply cases. This chassis looks great, is incredibly functional and rings in cheaper than many other similiar cases that are half as practical. Visit www.hardwarecanucks.com for more

Eclipse Wireless Litetouch Keyboard Video Review

In the grand scheme of things, the basic design of computer keyboards hasn't changed since their inception decades ago. There are however a number of companies who are striving to bring innovation to the run-of-the-mill keyboard by adding new and innovative features. It is quite possible that you may not have heard of them but a little-known design studio called Art Lebedev was one of the first to introduce a full customizable keyboard. Called the Optimus (and now the Optimus Maximus), this amazingly complex product uses miniature OLED screens on each key in order to offer an infinite number options. The only downside is this type of cutting edge technology understandably costs more than most are willing to stomach: $2400 USD. The product we will be reviewing today comes with slightly less lofty expectations but still packs some pretty cutting edge technology. It's name is the LiteTouch from a company called Eclipse which is a division of the Mad Catz peripheral empire. The Eclipse uses an LCD touchpad in the place of the usual number pad to stunning effect but is only geared towards home and office use. With a price of $99 for the corded version, this is sure to be a device that starts conversations among your friends. -SKYMTL (HardwareCanucks Editor in Chief)

Cooler Master Storm Sniper Black Edition Video Review

It a bit of déjà vu, Cooler Master is re-releasing the Storm Sniper chassis in a black edition and they have given it some final tweaks to make it one of the most attractive case options available in its category. Initially released early last year, the original Sniper was praised by many for its unique design, attention to detail and surprisingly robust quality all for under $200. The Black Edition goes even further, adopting an all black interior to further the aggressive look and keep up with current trends The Sniper features three enormous 200mm fans that make this case into a miniature wind tunnel, however a fan controller is included to allow users to adjust to airflow and noise to the perfect equilibrium. The design of the interior serves to amplify the cooling benefits, and even a amateur builder can make wires virtually disappear. The Sniper is arguably one of the best cases for cabling that we have ever had the pleasure of using! Its unique exterior aesthetics may not be for everyone, but they have chosen a theme and the design definitely mimics it. The build quality is very sturdy, and even with what may be considered a slight overuse of plastic, they havn't let quality slip. Nothing feels flimsy or breakable. Steel reinforced bracing is reassuring for those packing it around, and installation of the components with the screw-less design doesn't leave a builder worried. And best of all, the improvements to the case havn't caused the cost to skyrocket. It rings ...

Cooler Master CM Storm Enforcer Case Video Review

Cooler Master is launching their first new case of the year under the CM Storm brand, and as such it is geared with a look and design for gamers. The CM Storm Enforcer is a chassis that is a new spin on a successful Cooler Master design. The case exterior is modelled after a cyborg soldier, and isn't content to just sit under the desk, but demands to be carted around and shown off at LAN parties. The case takes it interior layout from the HAF 912, and as such is set up perfectly for effective airflow and support for all types of serious gaming hardware. You'll be surprised at just how much can fit in this modest mid-tower. The case also makes use of some new technology; USB 3.0 is now available with the new standard internal motherboard header. Unfortunately, the CM Storm Enforcer doesn't seem to carry the same value focus of the HAF 912, at $89.99 consumers may find themselves a little stretched to understand exactly where the extra $30 is going. The price tag of the Enforcer puts it right in direct competition with the award winning Cooler Master 690 II, which may outshine it in a few key areas. Cooler Master has already set the bar very high for this market in regards to value, and consumers will need to make the ultimate decision about whether the Enforcer suits their desires.

The Silverstone Raven RV02 is based on the successful introduction of the Raven RV01 earlier this year, and takes the same unique approach to cooling, using the stack effect system. Lamptron Fan Controller Touch Video Review

The fan controller market has been pretty stagnant over its long lifetime, with the real only changes coming when manufacturers were able to introduce LCD's to their products. For the most part, the tried tested and true formula of dial knobs for adjustments has been a staple, but Lamptron is looking to reinvigorate its product line with a fresh idea that does away with flimsy dial controls. The Lamptron Touch Fan Controller, pairs the companies impressively powerful controller design with a touch screen interface to create not only a very slick looking device, but one that is able to offer intuitive features that you won't find on your everyday unit. It has a whole lot going for it, providing an incredible 6 channels for fans, each of which support up to 30W. The integrated ARM processor is what allows the controller to not only be very responsive, but include a automatic fan control option that can be completely customized so you can set it and forget it. While the touch screen interface was impeccably smooth and relatively easy to navigate, one nagging issue did arise due to the positioning of the touch recognition points and small icons. We found that often, the control would send us to a different fan than we selected and that attempting to use the bottom fan speed control had us fighting to do fine adjustments. However, once Lamptron has developed and incredibly powerful fan controller that does just about everything you could need, wrapping it up behind an ...

AMD Radeon 6800 Series HD 6870 and 6850 Overview and Benchmarks

AMD has launched their much anticipated Radeon HD 6800 series of graphicss, starting with the Radeon HD 6870 and Radeon HD 6850. Both cards have been introduced as mid-range cards to compete directly with NVIDIA's GTX 460 1GB and 768MB. The two new GPU's fill the fuzzy mid-range gap that ATI wasn't as strong in with its 5000 series, and it provides some tremendous improvements to areas such as tessellation, image quality enhancements, new multimedia functions include HDMI 1.4, Blu-Ray 3D and improve Eyefinity. All of this comes it at $240, and $180 for the 6870 and 6850 respectively. ATI goes head to head with NVIDIA for the graphics card sweet spot. Short and Sweet, spent a few days with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 and ran it through various games including; Bad Company 2, Crysis, 3DMark06 and also did some objective testing on Temperatures and Noise. The final conclusion is that it isn't all bad news. The media has vilified the GTX 480 a bit, by making it out as a mini heater that sounds like pocket rocket and requires a small nuclear factory to run. While the latter is true, temps and noise of the retail products aren't as out to lunch as many pre-production samples experienced. Read the full written review on the website! www.hardwarecanucks.com It would appear that the GTX 480 offers some exceptional performance, unquestionably coming out ahead of the the HD 5870; however, as always, that comes with an increased cost.

Antec Dark Fleet DF-85 Gaming Case Tech Byte

***We apologize in advance for the poor audio. We won't be doing any more videos in this room in the future** In our new segment called Tech Bytes, we take a very brief overview of the a new Antec Dark Fleet Gaming Series case, the DF-85. The Dark Fleet series is the first major redesign of a gaming case from Antec in quite a few years so we were hoping it would bring a whole bunch of great stuff. While the case itself has received an updated look, it unfortunately isn't quite as appealing as many previous Antec cases. The case does offer some more modern features like external 2.5" SSD drive bays, hot swappable drive bays and a front fan and filter system that is quite useful. You get all this for around $180, which makes it a bit of a tough sell when you look at some of its competition.

Corsair Obsidian 700D Video Review

Less than a year ago, if you would have told us that Corsair was thinking about launching a case, we would have had some serious questions about your sanity. Much like when this memory company launched their first two power supplies, Corsair did the unexpected and proved their skeptics wrong by introducing a full tower case that featured almost everything people had been asking for. The legend of the 800D was born literally overnight and it was received to a standing ovation here at Hardware Canucks. Flush off the retail success that has made the 800D an extremely popular option for novices and enthusiasts alike, Corsair has now introduced a new case called the Obsidian 700D. To be honest with you, this isnt a new product at all but is rather a slightly cut-down version of its bigger brother. The cuts Corsair has performed are all quite sensible and include the removal of the hot-swappable hard drive bays as well as the windowed side panel. The result isnt a substantial cost saving the 700D is a mere $30 less expensive that its bigger brother- but there are many people out there who are more than happy to do without these two items and any price reduction is welcome. Other than those two small changes, the 700D is literally an 800D with a different name. It still carries the same affinity for water cooling setups, has an absolutely cavernous interior, uses high flow 140mm fans and comes in a single colour: imposing black. Naturally, almost everything we liked about the ...

NZXT H2 Silent Chassis Video Review

NZXT is targeting the case at those who are looking for a quiet PC and also great value. As we uncover, the H2 brings with it a some great ideas, the likes of which are rarely seen in a sub $100 case category. NZXT has included a "wireless" front fan system, allowing for easy access to tool-less hard drives, they have given focus to quiet computing with noise dampening foam additions and covered fans and fan controller. We were especially fond of the interior layout; double digit priced cases are notorious for having woefully inadequate layouts for assembly and effective airflow, but the H2 takes design cues from its very successful Phantom series and shrinks into midtower form very well. While this all sounds great, we couldn't help but feel a little underwhelmed by the effort (or seemingly lack thereof) to make the H2 a real, innovative, competitor. The case has some great potential, but it feels like to much focus was placed on making the H2 into a value product and NZXT failed to fully develop the chassis's unique features into something that would have given it a competitive identity. The quiet/silent case market currently has very few contenders, but all of them have worked very hard to offer products that focus heavily on what the consumers of this specific segment are looking for and each have very defined characteristics that ...
