Harlequins 53-15 Gloucester - Aviva Premiership Highlights Round 18

Ugo Monye's hat-trick set Quins up for a fine victory over Gloucester and end their 11-match unbeaten run. Monye's three scores were backed up by tries from George Robson and Joe Gray as well as nine points from Rory Clegg to give Quins a 24-2 half-time lead. It got worse for Gloucester after the restart as two more tries from Monye plus a double from George Lowe put Quins out of sight although Henry Trinder and Tim Molenaar did score two tries for Gloucester to offer some respectability.

Mike Brown - Harlequins | Aviva Premiership Rugby Player of the Month

12thJanuary 2012 - Mike Brown of Harlequins has been voted the Aviva Premiership Rugby Player of the Month for December. The Harlequins' full-back was chosen as the month's stand out performer by a panel of distinguished rugby media - including writers, broadcasters and photographers. "Mike has reinvented himself this year and turned himself into a world class player who we believe will deservedly make his Test debut in this year's RBS 6 Nations," said Panel Chairman Paul Morgan. "He exemplifies the reasons why Harlequins sit on top of the Aviva Premiership Rugby table and the award is our way or showing how impressed we have been with Mike's form." Brown spoke of the pride he felt for being named December's Aviva Premiership Rugby Player of the Month: "I am so happy to receive this award from Aviva. It's a great time to be involved with Harlequins. I couldn't have found my recent form without the constant help and support from my teammates and the Quins coaching staff, they have all had a massive influence on me over the past few months and I'd like to thank them all. "Aviva have kindly donated £500 to the charity of my choice - and I've chosen Macmillan Caring Locally. The reason I have chosen this charity is because my Gran recently passed away. Before she passed on, she asked for people to donate to the charity, instead of buying flowers for her funeral, as it was a charity that she supported. So in memory of her, I would like to donate to Macmillan Caring Locally ...

Saracens 19 v 24 Harlequins Official Highlights 31-03-12 | Aviva Premiership Rugby

George Lowe scored one try and saved two others as Harlequins produced an heroic defensive performance to beat Saracens 24-19 in front of a world record crowd and extend their lead at the top of the Aviva Premiership Rugby table. Lowe is on Stuart Lancaster's list of potential England stars of the 2015 Rugby World Cup and the 22-year-old Harlequins centre proved why on the biggest stage club rugby has ever seen, with a crowd at Wembley of 83761. After Jordan Turner-Hall's try had put Harlequins ahead, Lowe produced a top class finish to score his side's second of the afternoon and Danny Care added their third after the break. Saracens then threw the kitchen sink at Harlequins but Lowe kept the Aviva Premiership Rugby champions out with brilliant try-saving tackles on Michael Tagicakibau and Chris Wyles in the space of three minutes. Harlequins were under siege and had three men sin-binned - Joe Marler, Care and Nick Easter - as they weathered wave after wave of Saracens attacks. Richard Wigglesworth finally stole over when Marler and Care were both off the field and Owen Farrell added the conversion to his four first-half penalties. That was enough to secure Saracens the losing bonus point and move them back up to second place - but Harlequins held out for the victory to open a six-point lead at the top. This attendance beat the previous world record club attendance of 82208, which was set in the 2009 Heineken Cup quarter-final between Leinster and Munster at Croke Park ...

Sale Sharks 10 v 24 Harlequins | Official Highlights | 05/05/12

Harlequins secured top spot in the Aviva Premiership Rugby table with a 24-10 triumph over Sale in the Sharks' last ever game at Edgeley Park. England internationals Danny Care and Mike Brown went over in the first half as Quins established a 15-3 advantage at the interval, with Nick Evans adding a conversion and a penalty. Tommy Bell responded for Sale with a penalty before two second half Evans' three-pointers extended the visitors' advantage. Will Addison crossed for the Sharks to give them hope, but a further kick from the tee sealed the win for Harlequins and a home semi-final in the play-offs. Despite it being their final game before moving to the Salford City Stadium and Heineken Cup rugby not technically assured, Sale started the brighter. In their own half, the Sharks attacked the blindside through Luther Burrell whose exquisite off-load put Mark Cueto in space. Cueto's grubber through was collected by Addison who touched down, but the try was disallowed for a push on Quins' full-back Brown. Although the home side played with verve early on, their inexperienced set-piece struggled. The pressure told and they were duly punished at the scrum, but Evans failed to convert the resultant penalty opportunity. It was Sale who were next to attack as once again they ran from deep. Good interplay between Dave Seymour and Lee Imiolek sent Tom Brady clear before the winger was held up by some impressive visiting defence. And the failure to take their chances cost them dear ...

Harlequins 33-43 Leicester Tigers - Official Highlights 21-04-12 | Aviva Premiership Rugby

Tigers record run goes on against Harlequins Leicester made a devastating statement of intent ahead of the Aviva Premiership Rugby play-offs by coming from 13 points down to beat current leaders Harlequins 43-33. The victory sees the Tigers leapfrog Saracens back into second place, with a win against Bath in two weeks' time guaranteeing a home semi-final although they might be without England flanker Tom Croft, who went off injured in the first half at the Twickenham Stoop. In an action-packed first half, Leicester drew first blood through Thomas Waldrom's try, only for Harlequins to race into a 23-10 advantage courtesy of two tries from Ugo Monye and Nick Easter. But Leicester ensured the game remained in the balance at half-time as Steve Mafi went over to ensure they were only three points behind. While George Lowe's try restored Quins' advantage, Leicester went through the gears in the second half as a try from Alesana Tuilagi and Waldrom's second brought up the bonus point before Toby Flood, who finished with 23 points, rounded off the win with a late penalty. Leicester's intentions were clear from the off as Flood turned down a shot at goal and kicked to the corner, with number eight Waldrom finishing off a catch-and-drive under a heap of Quins players, with Flood adding the extras. The home team hit back immediately through a Nick Evans penalty and the New Zealander added a further penalty after one from Flood. The England hopeful then had a big hand in the next try ...

Harlequins 30-23 London Irish - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 14 | 11-02-12

Quins back onto winning ways Harlequins returned to winning ways as winger Tom Williams helped orchestrate the victory over London Irish which extended their lead at the top of the Aviva Premiership Rugby table. Quins were on a poor run of form, having lost four of their last five games in all competitions, and were left trailing in the first half after Tom Homer scored all of London Irish's points to give them a 13-10 interval lead. But Williams, who assisted with Tom Casson's first-half try, won a race to a loose ball to touch down after the restart before also having a hand in full-back Ross Chisholm's score that killed off the Exiles challenge. Quins fell behind inside the first four minutes as Homer broke through the Harlequins line in the 22 and dived over before converting his own score. Fly-half Nick Evans responded with a penalty four minutes later but Homer thought he had cancelled that score out, only to see his kick from just inside the Quins half drop under the bar. Evans' radar was also slightly off as he missed two relatively simple penalty chances to put Quins on top. But an excellent line-break from Williams after 22 minutes put Quins on the front foot, and some neat interplay tight on the right eventually led to Luke Wallace feeding Casson who dived over to put Quins in front for the first time in the match. But after some solid yard making from the London Irish backs, Homer drew the scores level with a 40-yard penalty before sending Irish in three ...

Harlequins 33-17 London Wasps - Official Highlights 14-04-12 | Aviva Premiership Rugby

Quins pile pressure on Wasps England captain Chris Robshaw was among the try-scorers as Harlequins rubber-stamped their Aviva Premiership Rugby semi-final berth while plunging Wasps deeper into the relegation dogfight after a 33-17 success. Robshaw was joined on the scoresheet by Ugo Monye, George Robson and Jordan Turner-Hall as Quins - for whom Rory Clegg kicked 13 points - secured a bonus-point victory. But while it was all smiles for Quins the defeat rounded off a terrible day for Wasps, who saw relegation rivals Newcastle move to within four points of them after victory at Gloucester. Dai Young's side played some entertaining rugby at The Stoop with Christian Wade and Ross Filipo crossing for scores - and Nicky Robinson kicking seven points - but it was Quins, and Robshaw's, day. Quins dominated the early exchanges and put themselves three points to the good on five minutes when Wasps were penalised for slowing the ball down. Clegg kicked the resulting penalty. Just three minutes later it was all square, Robinson slotting a penalty after Quins were penalised for going off their feet. After a period of concerted pressure the home side made it 6-3 midway through the first half through another Clegg penalty. The first try of the game came on 23 minutes when birthday boy Monye celebrated in perfect style after a long try-drought - put in in the corner by full-back Mike Brown. Gloucester Rugby 29-23 Harlequins - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 16 | 25-02-12

Gloucester run goes on with win over Quins Two tries from full-back Ross Chisholm were not enough to help stuttering Harlequins as the Aviva Premiership Rugby leaders slumped to defeat at Gloucester. Quins will be kicking themselves back down the motorway after they had Gloucester in trouble a few times in the second half but could not get the tries to recover from an early setback. Wing Charlie Sharples, full-back Jonny May and flanker Akapusi Qera grabbed Gloucester's tries, with fly-half Freddie Burns booting four penalties and a conversion. As well as Chisholm's tries, Quins' other points came from fly-half Nick Evans' boot with three penalties and two conversions. After Saracens' surprise loss to Worcester on Friday night, Harlequins were left kicking themselves with the knowledge before kick-off that victory at Kingsholm would open up a nine-point gap on their London rivals. But they started the match in the worst possible way to go 10 points down after as many minutes. It was former England winger James Simpson-Daniel who became a real thorn in the Quins' side during those early stages. Just moments after Burns had booted a monster 49-metre penalty to give the home team the lead, Simpson-Daniel almost got a try when he dashed downfield only for an excellent tackle to bring him down just short. However, set free on the right, the flyer superbly dummied the Quins defence to put Sharples in for a converted try. Evans added to the 159 points he has scored this season ...

Harlequins 14-6 Bath Rugby - Official Highlights 24-03-12 | Aviva Premiership Rugby

Quins take back table top spot against Bath Harlequins regained top spot in the Aviva Premiership less than 24 hours after being deposed by reigning champions Saracens. Their six-month tenure at the head of the table was briefly interrupted when Sarries won 45-9 at Sale on Friday night. But, in front of a 13882 sell-out crowd at The Stoop, three penalties from former New Zealand fly-half Nick Evans and a late try by replacement flanker Maurie Fa'asavalu secured a hard-fought victory. Fly-half Tom Heathcote replied with two penalties for Bath. He kicked them ahead from 40 metres after four minutes but Evans equalised four minutes later. Bath took the game to Quins in the first half but a try-saving tackle by Quins full-back Mike Brown, back from RBS Six Nations bench duty with England, kept them out. After prop David Wilson picked up a loose ball at the breakdown, flanker Carl Fearns looked to have put number eight Simon Taylor clear until Brown produced a textbook tackle round the former Scotland star's ankles. Quins responded with a fast-moving counter-attack involving centre George Lowe and right wing Tom Williams before Brown was forced into touch. A similar move, instigated by scrum-half Danny Care, ended with Williams being stopped just short after taking a pass from Brown. But the home side were temporarily reduced to 14 men when prop Joe Marler was yellow-carded by referee Wayne Barnes for a 30th-minute high tackle on Bath left wing Tom Biggs. Chris Robshaw - Harlequins | Aviva Premiership Rugby Player of the Month

Robshaw has been named Aviva Premiership player of the month after a series of barnstorming peformances for unbeaten Quins. His displays have led Will Greenwood to call for him to be made England captain for the Six Nations, and Robshaw said: "It's every players dream to lead your country into battle in front of the roaring crowd at Twickenham. "If the opportunity arose I would take it on with great pride -- for any player it's the ultimate achievement and honour. I love being captain at Quins and at the moment that is my sole focus. Hopefully if things continue to go well with my club, then an England call up will again follow." Martin Johnson's decision to overlook Robshaw for the 30-man World Cup squad was one of the more baffling decisions of the last 12 months, but the flanker has responded to that setback by playing the best rugby of his career. "Obviosuly I was in the training squad for the World Cup and to not go on from there is always very frustrating and getting that tap on the shoulder from Johnny letting you know you won't be travelling is pretty hard to take. I came back to Quins and the guys were fantastic. They've allowed me to get straight back into things and hopefully I've learnt from the disappointment and been able to take my game on a level since then." On Quins' stunning form this season, Robshaw added: "It's the strongest team I've ever played in and everyone in and around the club are just buzzing at the moment. Newcastle Falcons 9-9 Harlequins - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 17 | 02-03-12

Last-gasp Evans denies Falcons full points Nick Evans rescued Aviva Premiership Rugby pacesetters Harlequins from a shock defeat against Newcastle in a 9-9 draw at Kingston Park. Evans landed a penalty from wide out on the stroke of full-time - his third of the game - to salvage a draw for the leaders after basement club Newcastle looked to be heading for a famous victory in front of their biggest crowd of the season. Newcastle paid the price for ill-discipline with scrum half Chris Pilgrim sin-binned in the first half and hooker Rob Vickers - making his 100th appearance - yellow-carded in the closing quarter and the Falcons finished the game with 14 men. It was no classic but it was a real scrap and Newcastle hustled their way into the lead in a fractious second half thanks to the boot of Jimmy Gopperth. The first half lasted 58 minutes with Quins hooker Chris Brooker treated on the pitch for a dislocated knee before being taken off on a stretcher. There were several other stoppages and a sin-binning for Pilgrim after he pulled back Jordan Turner-Hall off the ball and the half ended with a scuffle between Falcons flanker Taiasina Tu'ifua, Turner Hall and his centre partner George Lowe. Lowe reacted to a late hit from Tu'ifua and all three players were ordered down the tunnel by the match officials. What little rugby that was played saw Evans kick a third-minute penalty and Jimmy Gopperth level the scores in the 11th minute. Both kickers also hit the post while Gopperth ...

Harlequins 11 v 19 Saracens | Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 11 | 27-12-11

Saracens stun sold-out Twickenham to end Quins' run Defiant Saracens ruined Harlequins' record-breaking Christmas party and ended their unbeaten start to the Aviva Premiership Rugby season with a ferocious defensive performance at sold-out Twickenham. Share Owen Farrell kicked 14 points and David Strettle scored against his old club as Saracens raced into a match-winning 19-3 lead after just 24 minutes. Harlequins attempted a comeback and prop Joe Marler, whose pass had been intercepted by Strettle, scored in a dominant second-half performance from the hosts. Saracens did not score another point but they defended resolutely to seal the victory in front of 82000 supporters and close the gap on league leaders Harlequins to five points. The extraordinary crowd was a world record for a regular-season club fixture, beating the 79842 that watched Stade Francais v Clermont Auvergne in the French Top 14. It was also the biggest crowd ever to watch an Aviva Premiership Rugby match, including any of the Grand Finals staged at Twickenham. Fireworks exploded from the roof of the national stadium as Harlequins ran out. The intensity at ground level was fierce but the lack of pyrotechnics an indication in itself of Saracens' intent to be party-poopers. Saracens can play attacking rugby at pace, as the Ospreys discovered to their cost in their Heineken Cup showdown at Wembley. But this was no exhibition game. Northampton Saints 24-3 Harlequins - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 13 | 06-01-12

Clinical Saints see off Quins Northampton produced a disciplined and ruthless performance to defeat Aviva Premiership Rugby leaders Harlequins 24-3 and record their seventh win in their last eight outings. Saints thoroughly deserved their victory, with fly-half Ryan Lamb kicking 13 points and Ben Foden and Roger Wilson scoring tries, while Harlequins were left rueing the absence of first choice fly-half Nick Evans and the sin-binning of number eight Nick Easter in the first half. Saints piled up a decisive 11-point lead with Easter in the sin bin, and Evans's replacement Rory Clegg missed two kickable penalties early in the second half just as Quins looked like mounting a comeback. It had started well for Harlequins on a cold, clear night in front of 13459 fans at Franklin's Gardens, and with England's interim head coach Stuart Lancaster in the stands there was plenty of incentive to perform for a number of players hoping to be named in the England Six Nations squad next week. The opening 10 minutes saw Quins as the more threatening side, but handling and kicking errors halted a number of promising attacks. Lamb then put Saints 3-0 ahead with a penalty after 12 minutes, before his side took a grip on the match with some compelling forward play. Pounding at the Quins line, they drew a string of penalties until referee Dave Pearson lost patience with the visitors and sin-binned Easter. Saints made the most of their numerical advantage, with Lamb slotting a drop goal and Ben ...

Harlequins 9-19 Leicester Tigers | LV= Cup Official Highlights -28-01-12

Tigers end Quins cup run Leicester kept their hopes of a LV= Cup semi-final berth alive as Ben Pienaar's second-half try secured a 19-9 win over Aviva Premiership Rugby leaders Harlequins. In a tight first half, Andy Forsyth's converted try gave the Tigers a 7-3 lead at the interval, with Rory Clegg kicking Quins' points from a penalty. Although Clegg landed two further penalties, tries from 20-year-old winger Alex Lewington and Pienaar pulled Leicester clear to inflict Quins' fourth defeat from the last six games. Both sides suffered exits from the Heineken Cup last week and there were multiple changes in the starting XVs. Right from the start Leicester's fly-half George Ford was willing to let his backs run from deep and, from a Clegg touch-finder, the visitors broke out of their 22. The Tigers spread the ball quickly for centre Forsyth to out-pace the home defence and go in under the posts, with Ford converting. Quins responded positively in the 12th minute. A clever Clegg chip that was gathered by Luke Wallace forced Leicester to infringe at the breakdown in their 22 and Clegg had a simple kick to settle the nerves. In the 22nd minute Clegg's attempted cross-field kick for Sam Stegmann was plucked out of the air by Tigers full-back Niall Morris, allowing Leicester to clear their lines. Although Tom Casson and Rob Buchanan made powerful runs for the hosts it was the Tigers who looked more likely to score the next try. And after 29 minutes winger Alex Lewington scorched ...

Nick Evans - Harlequins | Aviva Premiership Rugby Player of the Month

Nick Evans of Harlequins has been voted the Aviva Premiership Rugby Player of the Month for September. The Harlequins' fly-half was chosen as the month's stand out performer by a panel of distinguished rugby media -- including writers, broadcasters and photographers. Harlequins are the only team in the Aviva Premiership to win all of their opening five fixtures this season and Evans has been instrumental in that achievement; kicking 69 points to date with including a 20 point personal haul in the club's victory over Sale Sharks last weekend. Nick Evans - Harlequins | Aviva Premiership Rugby Player of the Month Nicholas John "Nick" Evans (born 14 August 1980 in Auckland, New Zealand) is a New Zealand rugby union footballer. He plays Fly Half and fullback. He joined Harlequins for the 2008--2009 Guinness Premiership season, and has remained with the club since on a deal reportedly worth £320000 a year. Evans was born in North Shore City in New Zealand, and attended Westlake Boys High School, where he played fly half for his school's First XV. He played both rugby union and Aussie rules football at the school. Evans graduated to the NZ under-21 and senior Aussie Rules Football sides, competed against state teams and was offered a trial with the Sydney Swans, turning it down to commit his future to rugby union. Although he has grown since, he was at the time considered short for professional Aussie Rules at 176 cm. He later decided to commit to rugby union and played for the ...

Harlequins 16 v 14 Worcester Warriors - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 15 | 18-02-12

The official Youtube channel of Premiership Rugby with exclusive news, match highlights, player profiles and more. The combined might of Nick Evans' boot and the Harlequins pack helped the Aviva Premiership Rugby leaders maintain their impressive season to date by edging out Worcester 16-14 at The Stoop. A pre-match downpour in south-west London reduced the game to a battle up front and Evans' 11 points proved the difference between the sides. On a day when relegation rivals Newcastle Falcons bagged an all-important win, Richard Hill's Warriors played their part in gaining a losing bonus point - Aviva Premiership Rugby fly-half debutant Danny Gray kicking nine points to add to a Miles Benjamin score. A first-half penalty try was Quins' other score but it was Evans' boot - despite two second-half misses - that sealed a hard-fought win. Worcester were rewarded for some incessant early pressure when Gray kicked a sixth-minute penalty. The Warriors were eight points to the good a minute later after Benjamin, having very nearly scored in full flow seconds before, dived over from close range. George Lowe, returning for his first Harlequins start since November, produced a try-saving tackle to seemingly deny the flying Worcester wing, however Benjamin bundled over seconds later. Gray put his conversion attempt from out wide just past the left upright and that miss seemed to spring the home side into life. Sale Sharks 25-37 Harlequins | LV= Cup

Stegmann stars as Quins slay Sale Harlequins wing Seb Stegmann scored a hat-trick as Sale slipped to their second successive defeat in the LV= Cup. Share Veteran Sharks flyer Mark Cueto was making his first appearance of the season for Sale after returning from World Cup duty and was instrumental in a decisive second-half try for Johnny Leota. Leota's 56th-minute score followed first-half tries from Will Addison and Alasdair Dickinson as Sale came from 14-0 down to lead 15-14 at the break. But Rory Clegg kicked two penalties to put the visitors back in front and Stegmann completed his treble late on to hand Conor O'Shea's men a second straight win in the competition. Quins led in the seventh minute when Richard Bolt found Clegg and his neat offload found Stegmann advancing forward at pace. The wing showed impressive pace to burst past a clutch of Sale defenders inside the home 22-metre line before crossing for a fine individual effort. The Sharks should have touched down midway through the opening period after some fine handling from Nick MacLeod and Luther Burrell created a clear opening for Cueto. The England wing burst onto Burrell's short offload at pace but spilled the ball as he attempted to ground it for the score. Harlequins then lost centre Tom Casson to injury in the 25th minute after he took a heavy knock before being carried off on a stretcher and replaced by Matt Hopper. But two minutes later, Quins struck again as Tom Williams picked up a loose ball and ...

Harlequins 26 - 19 London Irish | LV= Cup

Ollie Lindsay-Hague provided an 85th-minute match-winning try for Harlequins as they emerged victorious with an emphatic 26-19 win over London Irish. The Stoop was greeted to some new faces as Harlequins went onto the pitch for round one of this year's LV= Cup. Conor O'Shea's squad, although different on paper, certainly played with the enthusiasm and inventiveness Quins fans have become accustomed to. The fresh-faced side began positively, setting the tempo of the game, surging forward and spinning the ball wide to Seb Stegmann on the wing who looked to be in but was caught just short as the ball was recycled for a Rory Clegg cross-field kick to captain Will Skinner, who fell into touch. Quins were not deterred and were spurred on by an excited home crowd, soon rewarded with a try just seven minutes in from centre Ben Urdapilleta who sidled through the Irish defence. Clegg added the extras. Meanwhile, the Exiles looked as though they had nothing to give in attack as they were made to work hard in defence to keep Quins at bay. A smattering of penalties, one from Clegg and two from Irish full-back Tom Homer, was all that came out of the second part of the first half as the game remained an exciting spectacle of running rugby. But neither side were able to breach the opposition defence and the half finished 10-6 in Quins' favour. Quins started the second half with the urgency of a team in a final and of course to many, in particular the younger players, a good performance ...

Harlequins 42 - 6 Gloucester Rugby - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 2 | 17-09-11

Quins quash Gloucester with heavy defeat Harlequins continued their winning start to the season with a convincing bonus-point victory over Gloucester at the Stoop. 3 Share In wet conditions Quins' dogged pack out-fought their opponents at the breakdown and in the setpiece, resulting in two pushover tries from the impressive young flanker Luke Wallace. Quins were also classier behind the scrum with fly-half Nick Evans a constant threat and the slick passing in the backline leading to tries for wingers Sam Smith and Ugo Monye. For Monye it was his third in three games after being omitted from England's World Cup squad. Replacement hooker Chris Brooker rounded off an impressive showing with a fifth try as Quins claimed a third straight win of the season. Gloucester put on early pressure, utilising the chip in behind on a slippery pitch, and it yielded the opening penalty from Freddie Burns in front of the posts. But it was opposite number Evans who created the first try-scoring opportunity with a delicate chip down the blindside which fullback Mike Brown hacked on but failed to collect a metre from the line. Quins were taking control with the classy Evans orchestrating the attack and minutes later they had the lead. The former All Blacks playmaker went down the short-side and great soft hands from George Lowe put Brown in space and Smith finished off neat a move. Evans converted before adding a penalty to extend the Quins advantage. Quins' pack were also in the ascendancy ...

Bath Rugby 13-26 Harlequins - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 7 | 05-11-11

Quins continue their 100% winning ways Harlequins maintained their perfect start to the Aviva Premiership season as tries from Chris Robshaw and Mike Brown helped them to a 26-13 win at Bath. 3 The league leaders, who now have a 100 per cent record after eight games, made a slow start at The Rec but eventually assumed control of the contest as they gained the upper-hand at the scrum, line-out and breakdown. Quins led 13-7 at half-time after a close-range effort from Robshaw while Brown's solo try six minutes from time killed the game off. Nick Evans added 16 points with his boot, while the hosts scored a solitary try through Dave Attwood and Sam Vesty added the rest from the kicking tee. Bath made the brighter start but it was Quins who took a 3-0 lead through Evans in the sixth minute, the New Zealander slotting over after Vesty had missed two early penalties. George Lowe and Robshaw then produced a brilliant double tackle to deny wing Tom Biggs as he burst over the line after Olly Woodburn had forced a turnover. But Lowe was at fault seconds later as he was caught out of position, allowing Attwood to bundle his way over for a try converted by Vesty. The lead lasted only five minutes, though, as Harlequins hit back with a try from skipper Robshaw, who showed good strength to muscle his way over the try-line after deciding against going for the posts from a penalty. Evans added the extras before slotting his second penalty over shortly afterwards to give Conor O'Shea's ...

Harlequins 48-41 Sale Sharks - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 5 | 01-10-11

Harlequins 48-41 Sale Sharks - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 5 | 01-10-11 Quins kickers clinch twelve-try Twickenham thriller Nick Evans inspired Harlequins to maintain their 100% Aviva Premiership Rugby record by scoring 20 points in a bonus-point romp. But in a remarkable finale, Sale fought back to collect two points as their hosts switched off following a 10-minute injury break. Quins won their fifth straight game - their best start to a season since 1996 - and therefore remain top of the table. They took the lead after just two minutes when Sam Smith's break on the right caught Sale drifting, and despite a strong tackle by Will Addison, Smith managed to throw a pass in-field which Mike Brown took in his stride and scored. Evans kicked the conversion, and the Aviva Premiership Rugby leaders doubled their lead five minutes later. Charlie Matthews won a lineout, Karl Dickson sparked the backline and following a slick succession of phases, George Lowe crashed over close to the posts. Evans again converted, leaving Sale staring up a steep hill on a hot afternoon. A 12th-minute penalty by fly-half Nick Macleod put the visitors on the scoreboard, but within minutes they had to do some serious tidying in their own 22 as Harlequins swarmed back on the offensive. The pressure told, referee Martin Fox spotting a visitor standing up in the scrum and the deadly Evans rifled over the resultant penalty. But when careless hands in midfield gifted Sale possession on 24 ...

Leicester Tigers 18-27 Harlequins - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 5 | 08-10-11

Leicester Tigers 18 v 27 Harlequins 8th October 2011 16:45 AVIVA Premiership Rugby Harlequins hoist colours as Welford Road falls again Aviva Premiership Rugby leaders Harlequins maintained their unbeaten record with their first league win at Welford Road since 1997 and condemned Leicester to their third consecutive home defeat after a 27-18 success. 5Share Harlequins fought back from an early 5-0 deficit to make it six wins out of six in the league this season, with tries from Sam Smith, Seb Stegmann and Joe Marler, combined with 12 points from the boot of Nick Evans, earning the visitors the spoils. For Leicester, Boris Stankovich and replacement Scott Hamilton crossed for tries and fly-half Jeremy Staunton contributed the remaining eight points, but it was not enough to save their side. The Leicester pack will wonder how they lost the game when they had so much the better of the forward contest but the Tigers' backs were put to shame by the impressive counter-attacking efforts of their counterparts, who scored two delightful tries from scraps of possession. It was Leicester who made the dream start however when they opened the scoring in the third minute. Two penalty awards saw the Tigers gain a line-out platform in the visitors' 22 from which they secured possession. The resulting strong forward drive saw Stankovich cross for the try which Staunton was unable to convert. The Tigers' lead did not last long, though, as almost immediately they were hit with two splendid ...

Exeter Chiefs 9-11 Harlequins - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 12 | 31-12-11

Quins continue to be table toppers Harlequins bounced back from defeat by Saracens to go into 2012 at the top of the Aviva Premiership following a narrow 11-9 win over Exeter. The play was far from textbook but Quins had enough to do the double over the Chiefs in front of a sell-out crowd of 10602 at Sandy Park. The visitors had gone in to the break 8-6 in front but replacement fly-half Gareth Steenson looked to have sealed the game six minutes from time with a 40 metre penalty. But England Saxons fly-half Rory Clegg, who had a nightmare of an afternoon with his kicking as he missed the target with four penalty attempts and a conversion, landed his second penalty to clinch the game three minutes from time. Both sides went in to the game after post-Christmas defeats with the Chiefs suffering their first loss in five games as they were beaten 29-22 at London Irish while Harlequins lost their first Premiership game of the season as they went down 19-11 to defending champions Saracens at Twickenham Stadium. There was a new look to the Chiefs front row of Brett Sturgess, Neil Clark and former Quins' player John Andress, Aly Muldowney came in to the second row while the sole change among the backs saw Jason Shoemark recalled at inside centre. Quins were without former All Black Nick Evans due to a minor injury so Clegg started at fly-half while England's Nick Easter missed the game due to an ankle injury so Tom Guest started at number eight. The visitors looked dangerous from ...

Harlequins 19-13 Exeter Chiefs - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 7 | 29-10-11

Quins extend winning rub against Exeter Harlequins cemented their place at the top of the Aviva Premiership Rugby table when they beat Exeter 19-13 at The Stoop on Saturday. Quins' victory enabled them to extend their run to nine straight wins in all competitions but they were pushed to the end by a battling Exeter side. Nick Evans scored 14 points for the home team in what was their toughest test of the season to date. Evans opened the scoring with a third-minute penalty after Exeter, who had retained possession from the kick-off, were caught not releasing just inside their half. Less than two minutes after they had opened the scoring, referee Sean Davey awarded the home side another penalty, this time for hands in a ruck. This time, Evans chose to kick deep into touch but despite a series of Quins attacking scrums, Exeter stood firm. They should have scored a try on eight minutes when Matt Jess attacked up the left. He only had to pass outside to Luke Arscott, who had an unopposed path to the line, but Jess tried to step inside and Chris Robshaw's flying tackle ended the danger. Exeter's rucking turned Quins over for a second time, sparking a succession of phases that brought the best from the home defence. Then Mike Brown grounded a Ignacio Mieres kick-ahead just over his goal-line, condemning the crowd to another scrum comprising repeated re-sets. Finally, John Andress was penalised for not binding, letting the hosts off the hook again in an opening quarter that was ...

London Irish 24-29 Harlequins - Aviva Premiership Rugby Highlights Round 1 | 03-09-11

On-song Evans has perfect tune for Quins An immaculate seven-out-of-seven kicking display by Nick Evans enabled Harlequins to secure the first victory of the new Aviva Premiership Rugby season as they edged past London Irish 29-24. 4Share The former All Blacks fly-half kicked five penalties and converted tries by James Johnston and England winger Ugo Monye. Irish responded with two excellent tries from former England winger Topsy Ojo, with full-back Tom Homer kicking four penalties and a conversion. The 2pm Twickenham kick-off meant that Samoan prop Johnston's 17th-minute try was the first of the new league season. Evans had kicked Harlequins into the lead with a 40-metre penalty after only two minutes, and Homer levelled from the touchline three minutes later. A sustained spell of Quins pressure produced the opening try. Full-back Mike Brown was tackled a metre from the Irish line by Ojo, but Quins turned the ball back inside and launched a series of assaults. George Robson, dominant in the lineout all afternoon, and skipper Chris Robshaw were both stopped just short before heavyweight Johnston powered his way over. Homer missed a second touchline penalty attempt as Irish responded, when Irish skipper Daniel Bowden's superbly-weighted kick over the Quins defence produced an opportunity for young centre partner Jonathan Joseph but he was unable to breach the Quins cover. Harlequins were temporarily reduced to 14 men when England Saxons prop Joe Marler was yellow carded by ...
