Hazrat Ali (ra), son of Abu Talib, the uncle of our Prophet (saas), was one of the first Muslims who accepted Islam at an early age. He was also the son in law of the Messenger of Allah (saas) and a member of his ahl al-bayt (household). He grew up alongside the Prophet Muhammed (saas) and was taught by him. He never prostrated himself before idols or worshiped them; he prostrated himself before Allah alone. He was therefore known by the name of "Karam Allah Wajhu" (May Allah honor his face). Hazrat Ali (ra) became one of our Prophet's (saas) closest helpers ever since he accepted Islam at an early age, and remained with him until his death. Hazrat Ali was born in Mecca, some 23 years before the hegira, or migration. He is a blessed Caliph of Islam whose adherence to Qur'anic moral values our Prophet (saas) cited as exemplary. He was the last Caliph in the "Era of the Four Caliphs," one of the most glorious times in the history of Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (saas) married him to his beloved daughter Hazrat Fatima, thus making him his son in law. Hazrat Ali had three sons by Hazrat Fatima; Hassan, Hussein and Muhsin, and two daughters, Zaynab and Ummu Gulsum. The line of our Prophet (saas) continued through Hazrat Hassan and Hazrat Hussein, the sons of Hazrat Ali and Hazrat Fatima. Gentle hearted Sultan Saladin Ayyubi became one of the world's greatest warriors by defeating crusaders and capturing the holy city of Jerusalem. Born in Tikrit, Iraq, Saladin, his Arabic name is Salah al-Din Yusuf ibn Ayyub. At the age of 14 he joined other members of his family (the Ayyubids) in the service of the Syrian ruler Nur ad-Din. He was brought up by his noble father and talented uncle, Asad-ud-din Shirkhu. Saladin was a very intelligent and noble person. He loved peace and never enjoyed fighting battles. And when the young boy who didn't like fighting in battles fought, he fought with great bravery and strength. While Muslim warriors conquered these parts of the sub-continent by force, the Muslim Saints identified themselves with the people, and interpreted Islam to them as a rational approach to better life in this world and hereafter. The people were not converted to Islam under any pressure of the armed forces; they accepted Islam voluntarily because of the appeal of the message of Islam as conveyed and preached by Muslim missionaries. By common consent Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh is a great Saint of the sub-continent. Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh was born in Ghazni, a small place in Afghanistan. Located at a higher altitude it is a cool place in summer. The winter is windy and cold. When Ghaznavids were in power, this town was known for its grandeur as it happened to be the capital of their empire. It is said, it is contemporary to Harrappan and Indus valley civilization. It was the centre of trade with "Khurasan" and Sindh. It was a medieval walled city with expensions of areas called "Mohallahs" developed outside the walled city. Two of these Mohallahs were known as "Hujwer" and "Jalab". Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh's, family lived in the locality of Hujwer. In his book Kashful Mahjub he cateforically prayed for Ghazno "becoming the abode of Saints and venerable men". Hazrat Ibrahim was born into a family who used to make idols, sell them in the marketplaces and worship them. The country was full fo people who would bow down before these idols and seek the fulfillment of their wishes from them; they would worship stars, the sun and the moon, aswel as idols made of wood and stone. In this way, they had turned away from the true message that there is no God except Allah. Hazrat Ibrahim tried to preach to his people about the truth. He said, "How is it that you make these idols using your own hands, yet you worhsip them? They are neither capable of benefitting you, nor are they capable of causing you harm." They replied, "But this has been the tradition of our forefathers, and we have seen them worship these idols in this way." Hazrat Ibrahim teaches a lesson Oneday, all the villagers had gone somewhere and left Hazrat Ibrahim behind. He went into the temple, and one by one, destroyed all the idols except the biggest one. When they returned, and realized the state of their idols, they became extremely furious and said, "Who has disrespected our idols like this, it must be the handiwork of an extremely cruel person."
