I know this doesn't relate to DSLR video, but I think HDR is helpful in learning about shadow and highlights so that is why I included this tutorial on HDR. Since I have Photomatix Pro I also compared it to that as well. To be honest since I am not that good at HDR yet, I kinda think that the in camera HDR did a better job than I did.

I want to get better at HDR with my Canon so in this video I show you another attempt which I think came out pretty good this time. This entire video was shot with the Canon 28-135mm lens - all hand held with no special stabilization rig hardware. The IS and using slow motion can give you really good smooth hand held shots. I shot the photo using a Canon EOS 450D (Digital Rebel XSi). I shot the same scene 7 times with different exposure settings and blended them together with Photomatix into an HDR image. www.photoextremist.com This is a quick and dirty method to capturing an image with more dynamic range. Simply take one photograph of the thing that is super bright (in this case, it was the sky with the sun behind the clouds), then take a second photograph of the thing that is super dark (in this case, it was the landscape foreground), then combine the two in Photoshop and BAM - You've got a photo that is improved significantly. It's recommended to use a tripod, Aperture Priority mode, manual focus, and Spot Metering. I shot these in JPEG format because I am lazy and forgot to use RAW. Using RAW would have been a good idea.
