This aa simple time lapse of a Headlight Restoration I completed today. The protective coating on my headlights had become hazed, flaky and yellowed. This lowered the light output of the headlights and really made the car look like crap. I used 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and 3000 grit wet sandpaper. I followed the sandpaper up with 2 passes of Meguiar's PlastX Clear Plastic Cleaner & Polish I then used Meguiar's Mirror Glaze Clear Plastic Polish After the Polish, I applied a thin coat of Meguiar's NXT Generation® Tech Wax® 2.0 Paste Since I have removed the protective UV coating on the lens I will be covering the headlights with Lamin-x 20 Mil Clear Headlight Film.

The business is no longer open, but was very successful for several years until every major manufacturer realized that there was some profit to be made and jumped on the bandwagon. This was the first single serving headlight restoration kit on the market and sold for $4.95 each. I developed this kit while in college and sales of over 5000 units helped me to pay my tuition, books, and many living expenses. Many people know how to do this... and if not, I am going to tell you exactly what was in this kit! There were two different grits of wet-sanding sand paper; 600 grit and 1200 grit silicone carbide that is commonly used on automotive paint applications. This sandpaper is somewhat harder to find and not available at most hardware stores, it is usually found online or in automotive paint distributor warehouses. The "special goo" is just regular buffing compound (3m perfect it brand) which acts like a liquid sandpaper and polishes the plastic to a clear finish. The directions did recommend using a carnuba wax to seal the plastic lights and protect from quickly re-oxidising. I would never recommend clear paint or clear nail polish afterwards because it is hard to apply and looks even worse after it starts to go. The basis for this kit was that it does not make sense to buy 2 packs of sandpaper and a bottle of rubbing compound just to fix 2 headlights <b>...</b>
